Do You Name Your Guns?

The naming of names

Let's see, there is Annika, my M44 Mosin Nagant carbine, Springer, the 1863 Springfield 45/70, Nadia, my Romanian .22 trainer, Ruby, the Ruger p95dc, and Sonya, the FEG pa63.

And my toaster is named Pop-Up Willie. (Gotta love that Dharma.)

No. I may after I've owned them longer, maybe get more attached, but probably not. Don't think there's anything wrong with people who do, however. I guess, since I've only got 2 pistols, one being a pocket pistol and the other a WW2-era military revolver, the smaller gets referred to as "the little gun."

Only one.

A High Standard Mark I deluxe Snubbie with a torched cylinder action that I call every name in the book everytime I look at it and think of what a stinking pile of doo it was when I spent two hundred dollars for it.

I open the drawer it sits in and everytime all I can think is ,"There is that $200 piece of (doo)."

i refer to my 870 as the problem solver. and my XD the Odds Maker sometimes. my brother names EVERYTHING he owns. usually gives em a some kinda brothel girl name that starts with the same letter as the manufacturer. like his bike is asuzuki and calls her susie, his Larua Tactial AR is lovelyin referred to as Lucy, his Camaro was named Charlene (R.I.P.)

Yeah, I name them.

The .460XVR is "Poppa". The 2 tone Sigma .40 is "Bling". The MkI is "Tutu". The model 13 .357 is "J. R.". The GP100 .357 is "Bamm Bamm". The model 29 .44 magnum is "Maggie". The Redhawk .44 magnum is "Biff". Collectively, I call them " Da Kids".

And no, I dont name hammers, screwdrivers, lawn mowers, etc etc....But then, I don't love those things, and I don't love using them.

all the revolvers are called "revolver"

all the long guns are called either "shotgun" or "rifle"

if I owned any semi auto handguns I'd probably call each the "semi-auto"

barney fife called his "old blue", "roscoe", and the old "persuader"

don't know what he called his bullet though.

Only one gun among all that I own has a name . It was my fathers and passed down to me. This particular rifle is one of the original Winchester Model 70 Westerners' built in the 264 Win. Mag. ,,,

This gun was given its name after it had been passed from one hand to another during our family and friends annual group deer hunt . In 5 days of hunting in the wide open spaces of Eastern Oregon in 1965 this rifle filled 11 0f 13 buck tags in our camp with most shots coming in at ranges from 250 to 400 yards . A passerby who stopped to admire our collection of Mulies heard of how these deer had met their fate and upon handling the rifle was heard to say, "that rifle is truly evil when it comes to the killing of these deer,,, You should call it "LUCIFER" . And so it came to pass from that day forward when there were deer to be vanquished they were all extremely nervous ,,, for they knew the hand of Lucifer was upon them ....

there is no difference in naming a gun instead of a car. same concept. I named my cars, I named my gun. Why? idk, its mine, I can call it what I want. Thats what I love about the US.

i tend to just call them by much simpler names. Ive got "The Benelli" , "The 20 gauge" , "The 870", "the ruger". hmmm, i guess these dont really count as name do they, ;)

As some of us get older and our guns develop minds of their own, I think it, that point, we might as well just give them names.
