Do You Name Your Guns?

I picked this up from my family as we name all kinds of stuff, tractors, vans, whathaveyou.

My uncle's Ithaca Deer Slayer is called the "Widowmaker"

My 870 Express is called the "Big Bad Voodoo Daddy"

AR15 known only as "The Fire Pig"

Ruger Redhawk my friend named "Hal" (2001 A Space Odyssey)

Glock 24C I call "Ole Girl"

Glock 22 "The Forty"

I sometimes call my Uzi "The Jewish Death Machine"

My 590 SBS called "The Bitch" (Training Day)

Some are just called what they are... Performance Center... Mauser... Sig... Her .22, My .22...

No, I don't name my guns. They are what they are.

But -- there are times when I do refer to them euphemistically while being discreet. Usually, when I'm packing and I need to reassure SWMBO that I am doing so, like when we are in an increased hazard situation. Even then, it would be a term that refers to my being armed, not one that refers to any 1 particular weapon.

Yep. That's the way I do it.

The 686 or the .357. Her .38. The big 9. The little 9. The .22 or her .22. The .30-30. That sort of thing.

I have names for all my guns, all 12 of them. And when I'm just goin' around town I always have my S&W 640-3 .357 Mag on me,and he answers to "Mr Saturday Night". There's a very good story behind how it got that name, but this is a little too public to tell it.....

when i realized i could actually buy my own guns i made an impulse buy. An 18.5 870 express which immediately had a pistol grip installed. her name is "robin banks" which got me in trouble with the gf. mentioned to a friend i had a date with robin on saturday and she didn't quite get it. this was back when she thought i was crazy for own guns and cleaning them once a month.

Many famous firearms were named by their owners, it is a tradition. So lets have a history quiz, I will name a few famous REAL historic guns and you all see if you can give me the owners and what they did with their guns. First and easiest " OLE BETSY" second "LACRICIA BORSA" third "OLD BULLTHROWER" fourth " OLD TICKLICKER" fifth " SUGARLIPS". All very famous and have changed history. Let the quesses begin.

I'm guessing "Crosseyed Bi***" doesn't actually count as a name.

OTOH, I've got an old .410 SxS that was my grandfather's. He called it Sue Betsy. He said. "If Sue don't get 'em, Betsy will."

My ex-wife and I named them so that we could refer to them if we were out in public - especially if we wanted to alert the other person that there might be some reason for needing one.

NITETRRANE98 close but no cigar on #1 and #4 you got them reversed. OLD BETSY was Davy Crockett's rifle and TICKLICKER was Danial Boone's rifle. You got #2 incorrect as well, it was Buffalo Bills Cody and was the rifle he used while working as a buffalo hunter. It was a Springfield model 1866 Alin conversion " trapdoor " in 50-70 government. So who can guess the remaining 2 rifles? BULLTHROWER and SUGARLIPS. Who owned these famous firearms and what historical events did they experence?

My buddy and I both bought Ruger #1's around the same time. His is a 405 Winchester named "Teddy" after the president who used the same round. Mine, a 9.3x74r, is British, so what better name than "Nigel"?

I have The Sig (Sauer), Hubby has The XD, then there is the AR, the OLD 22, the NEW 22 and Grandpa's Gun.

Guess we haven't gotten to the point of having so many guns we have to name them to keep track of them.

I've been considering a getting a G19, if I get it, it will be The Glock. However, if I got another Sig instead, then I might have to do some naming ;)

I think the G19 Is an excellent choice, I loved mine. I wish I still had it. I traded it for another gun, and have regretted it ever since.:(

The manufacturer usually names them fine. I do put a reference on some such as "My black girlfriend (changed from an expletive)" is my HD Mossberg 500 20 gauge.
Brent

ruger M77- Lindsay

blued 10/22- no name

stainless 10/22- Laura

mossberg 500 12- Justice

sporterized 1893 mauser- Esther

..maybe i need a gf

I have never been the type to name inanimate objects.

The only exception was a bike I had for most of my childhood. It was a Huffy Thunder Road and I called it "Black Thunder." Not very PC I know. :)
