yeah cant wait for my permits to come in.....

but mainly my NYC permit, which would allow me to buy my first pistol....

then i think we should do a few forum range meets

I also belong to a car enthuisast forum here in NYC/LI where some of the members are gun owners as well.... we do plan on taking road trips in our sports cars, to the range to do our meets there

so much for being a car and gun buff ha?

WOW. I'm in St. Lawrence county in northern N.Y. and it's simple to get a permit here. I've had mine for 30 years and carry it everywhere. My son got his in 5 weeks with no problem when he turned 21. When I get a new gun I just add it to my amendment card at the pistol permit office and that's all there is to it. Our permits don't have to be renewed either. They are good for life unless you do something stupid and get it revoked.

That's why the "correction" for the Indy study does not mean that permits to own in NY State - are not permits to carry. Most gun permits that the State approves are in fact, carry permits. It says it on top. Unless a county puts its own restrictions down and does so with regularity, the State Permit to Carry is exactly that, a permit to carry. So, quite a few counties have none or very rare special restrictions. Therefore, I would guess that many of the gun permits in NY State are for Carry, plus we have them for life: so the number of such permits accrues right along.

i was under the assumption that a permit to own is a permit to carry, within restrictions.. say i have a target/hunting license, which is what i'm going to have to apply for anyway.. i was under the assumption i could carry to and from the range, but not elsewhere.

That is correct, it is a permit to carry with restrictions.

I rather like sports cars myself, I own 2 Vipers. Don't think I would like to take them on a field trip with guns however, they tend to attract too much police attention all by themselves.

gvf, Do I have to be a county resident to get your county NYS Carry Permit ?

Hehe....if you didn't have to be a resident I'd have my St. Lawrence County license..:)

ViperJon, to that note, I have heard stories of people buying unimproved land upstate and getting a permit. I have been told that some counties are less interested in how you live on the land, than if in fact you own it. Perhaps that may be of interest to you. Lets see car insurance for two Vipers upstate.......

here's a question... what is a substantial enough amount of money to be issued a business carry permit?

Shiky, It is not about net worth. You will have to check your counties handbook. Nassau and Suffolk Counties had a weekly deposit minimum that you had to surpass to qualify. The amount was in CASH. They did not care if you transacted and or deposited millions per week electronically (charges, debits...). Nor did they care about gift cards or checks. I am sure the amounts have changed like every other requirement. Years ago in Suffolk if you were an employee of a business, the business needed to generate a letter stating that they requested you carry for business purposes. Additionally you had to bring in records of deposits. It got complicated. I have not had a business carry in years, so I can't comment on current requirements.

thanks. i do deposit what is in my mind a large amount of cash a week, but i think the business has a "no weapons" policy, and its a corporate part time job. POS. whatever. i'll settle on a target/hunting, and keep a range bag.

Yes you do. But other counties are easier than Erie, they're nice to deal with here but still takes a lot for unrestricted carry. I hear though with a clean record of carrying, you can get any restrictions removed after some time 3-5 years, maybe less.

But Niagara County, just north of us, is supposed to be really easy for carry, and some counties south of here as well. There a CCW-Law site that goes into different states' laws, and New York's describes at least some counties. Maybe Packing.org, something like that? Other folks here may know what I mean.

Best of luck.

I wonder how much of a campaign contribution is required to "move that along"...;)

I contacted westchester county, they said I need three character references in westchester. AND I gotta live there. I dont know nobody there. bejezzes... Even if I rent a place to "Live" or buy a forrest, there is nothing I can do...

Oh well. I rarely go upstate anyway...

well, my NH license application is in the mail, ( using FL to qualify ).. 20 bucks.

I like doing that. I feel that if enough people get on these lists, it'll make gun ownership better for the future. ( how, I dont know )

GVF, I'm in niagara county. Both my wife and I received full carry permits (no restrictions) in 2 months. Niagara is VERY gun friendly...almost like you are not in NY;)

CCW NYC

I am new here and just wanted to put in some advice for ppl that live in nyc that want to apply for a ccw Move would be the best thing to say.I never been in trouble have many Government licenses and endorsements etc. i have my nyc rifle shot gun license took 1 month cause i have never had any bad backround and also have my premise handgun license
2 large safes proper storage had good letters of good moral character from nyc police officers and politicians .i have applied 28 times for my CCW in nyc each time cost $360 and time off work ALL 28 times got denied cause they dont see the need for me to carry a firearm in nyc meanwhile people get robbed all the time and the police just classify it differently so the crime rate goes down..My point is that slowly they are taking our gun rights away and there is nothing you can do politicians couldnt even do something for me even tho i never been in any kind of trouble not even a parking ticket.

Im really considering moving but shouldnt have to just to carry its just how messed up this gorvernment ..My personal opinion

OK, I know it's not relevant, but after 4 pages of posts concerning illegal concealed carry in NY (city, state, whatever....) I get to be the first one to say,
see: Burress, Plaxico

BTW, I moved from MA to AL. Would never go back.

Not exactly why this one didn't get locked when it was first started 2 years ago. But, better late than never...
