Bolt Action Rifle

Guys my point was proven. Every gun you showed me was more exspenive than the Rem 700 ADL, except the buds gun shop ones but you have to buy those online and add about an extra 60.

An extra $60 for what? You can get an FFL transfer done for $25.00, shipping from Buds is free and you can make an offer on the gun. Usually they'll take 10% off. You can also do a 90 day lay away.

Sorry man, but you're wrong.

Get the ADL if that's what you want. If you shop and work the game you can do better. Heck look on Armslist.

I'm not comparing a purpose built rifle to everyone elses hunting rifles.

The fact is, other companies don't produce purpose built rifles like the Savage F-Class rifles because they can't build one as good at the price point the Savage's are offered for.

That comparison is exactly what happens every time it's said "Savages win matches" as proof of these accuracy claims

There's no logical reason why another company couldn't produce the same rifles at the same price range

The fact that they don't doesn't mean they can't

Remington Senderos are very close to that price range (actually cheaper), and every bit as accurate.

It wouldn't cost more to build if they made it a single shot with a short action, and in fact should be less

Reality is most manufacturers today are producing sub-MOA rifles right off the shelf, even in the more common hunting configurations

No brand is "better" than another, any more than Ford is better than Chevy

Does anybody know any cheap .308 ammo that isn't like surplus ammo, or steel cased?

If you are looking at hunting ammo, plain blue-box Federal can normally be had in the "common" calibers for about $18 at Wallyworld. I've never had any of the blue-box shoot bad or fail to kill. If it came in the calibers I shot, that would be all I'd ever need.

Agree with Doyle about the Federal Blue box ammo at Wal-mart and elsewhere.

Been a few times I've bought a used rifle at some gun show, pawn shop and etc., that was a rifle with a cartridge I did not reload or lacked the componets to reload with. Bought a box of Federal blue box just to be able to shoot the rifle till I bought what I needed to reload. The Federal shot pretty good for me.

As to primer pockets of Federal brass. Yep, I've experienced this problem, but I find a fair amount of Federal Brass at range that once fired with .308 being the most common. I'll reload it and shoot it. If the primer pocket seems/is loose, I switch to Wolf/Tula primers....problem usually solved since the Tula primers seat tighter than other brands.

I got a Remington 700 ADL bolt action rifle in a 30-06 caliber.

The reason I got 30-06 not 308 is that the cabelas didn't have 308 and I have been thinking a 30-06 would be a better hunting caliber, but the ammo is more expensive but I will be realloading my ammo so it won't be expensive.

I have been using the action and it feels great and it is very light and the scope it comes with accually ain't bad, it ain't a $300 scope but it's not as bad as everybody says it is.

The thing I really like about it is how smooth the action is.
It is the smoothest I have used but I have not used to many guns.

I don't save federal brass,

Save All Brass! Even shot out, neck split, loose primer pocket stuff is worth like a buck a pound for scrap!

I got a Remington 700 ADL bolt action rifle in a 30-06 caliber.

Congratulations on the start of your journey!

As you use it, I am sure you will find things that you like and dislike about it ...... things that can be better ..... try to keep in mind that the easiest fixes (buying things) are not the most rewarding (learning things).

It's a bolt action rifle, and as such there is not much new under the sun .... 99% of the things you can do with it have been done and written about.... no need to reinvent the wheel- read and practice ...... Google "the Rifle Bounce" ....or for that mattter, Google Jeff Cooper ....

For the vast majority of applications, the specific chambering is unimportant: The Best Rifle is the one you have! Unless you are involved in some silly game testing the merits of a load or equipment, until you can hold, from practical field positions, to what your rifle is capable of from a rest, then the part of the system benefitting most from remedial excercise is YOU, the shooter!

I will be reloading

If you have questions, we are here!

Yeah I agree Jim bob.

The caliber doesn't matter so much.

Thanks to everybody's suggestions I think I got the perfect rifle for me and what I want to do with it.

Congrats on the rifle! I'm sure you will like it! I'll be starting a new thread soon with my latest bolt action acquisition, finally getting my "unicorn"...
