Bolt Action Rifle

Try the Ruger American Rifle. There are a number of well known and not so well known "entry level" rifles, with and without scope, that will last you a life time. These are good for plinking and hunting. Someone mentioned Savage. Here is a story about a Savage 110 in 30-06. A number of years ago, I drew a Colorado Rocky Mountain goat license. A couple of years earlier, I purchased the 110 used at a gun show, which had an off brand fixed 4X scope. I check zero and was satisfied. On opening morning, I bagged my goat with one shot at about 150 yards. Of course, I had my .300 Weatherby as a back up gun in my vehicle. I have no qualms about the accuracy and durability of the 110 and would use it any day for Colorado big game.

Be careful about the scope. A friend bought a Remington 30-06 with Bushnell 3X9X40. We could not get that gun to zero for anything so I convinced him to buy a Leupold 3X9, which he did. In short order he had the rifle zeroed properly.
