my one and only revolver.

Big bore snubbies / My 2 cents worth!

At the present I don't have a big bore snubbie in my collection. I'm hoping in the spring to have Gary Reeder make me up a 3 incher on a Ruger Redhawk Platform in .45 LC. It's called an Alaskan Survivalist.( I like the bright Stainless one, myself.) I'm gonna use it as my CCW. If you'd like to check it out go to:

Ever since I bought my Colt New Service revolver I've been hearing about the old "fitzpatrick special" conversions done by the custom shop in the golden days. This often entailed bobbing the hammer, chopping the barrel off to 2 inches or less, rounding off the butt and removing the front of the trigger guard.

I'd LOVE to own one of those. If I converted one later, I'd leave the trigger guard alone.

Those old NS Colts are really cool looking, but holsters aren't in big supply.. though I get the feeling that a lot of "fitz" specials were carried mexican style with rubberbands wrapped around the grip..

I'm also dissapointed in the new big bore snubbies that I haven't seen one offered in 45 ACP with a full moon clip. the 45ACP is a pussycat from a big revolver. Even a 45 colt/45acp convertable would be cool.

One of my favorite carry guns is the Taurus Total Titanium in .45 LC. Just had the hammer bobbed but haven't got it back yet. Am looking forward to carrying it hammerless.

Personally, the recoil is not too bad for me. My wife shot it and didn't find it overwhelmingly hard. Those ribber grips really help and probably the ported barrel does also. I've shot some of my own XTP JHP 300 grains and they are very sweet. The 200 grain .45 is soft shooting but I likie the 300 grains bullets myself.

696 owners, help me

i recently traded, during the last year, for a m696 3" .44spl that is my current home door gun. it came with factory mag-na-porting and hardwood hogue monogrips. i shot it, with blazer 200gr golddot jhp, on our off duty/backup course of fire and shot a possible. unbelievably controlable w/o even having the trigger worked on...felt like i was shooting .38 spl, not even +p

i'm thinking about a kramer verticle scabbard but i need help with speedloaders...no one has any

696 owners,help me !!
which speedloaders are you using and are there other ways you use to carry spare ammo?

have any of you .45lc fans had a problem with the ejector star overriding the rim of your cases when ejecting cases...i heard that this is the only SSA round that winchester never chambered in their lever actions due to the long colt's small rim size. i saw it happen once on a M25-5 at the range, i prefer the .45acp in that big a gun for defense, reloads faster too w/full-moon clips

does anyone think that there is enough "meat" in the cylinder of a sp101 to hold 5 rounds of .40 on a moon clip?

Used to use the Charter Bulldog in .44spl. Find the same caliber very pleasant and effective in the Taurus SS snubby.
Use .45acp in an old cut-down S&W 1950, which is due for an upgrade to .45Colt, soon as I can find a snub barrel to match the on-hand cylinder in that caliber.

Midway carries HKS speedloaders made for the Charter Arms and Rossi 5 shot .44's. They will work. I've been looking recently for a better holster for my 696 and can't decide between the Bianchi Cyclone (Crossdraw Option) or one called the P11 made by Mernickle Holsters. Both are on the web if you want to look. I have the Bianchi for my GP100 and it works great, but rides a little low on the hip. There's not too many companies making 3" holsters for L frames.

I carry a Ruger SP101 stainless, hammerless .357 magnum. Great little gun. I use it for pocket carry and am very confortable with it for personal defense. I have considered getting "Crimson Trace" grips, a "meltdown" smoothing job and maybe a porting job. I did lose the factory grips and went with hogues. all-in-all, a good basic gun to work on.

Rossi 720...

Tamara and glockten...

Had the hammerless, fluted-cylinder version myself and sold it to a friend...have regretted it ever since. Would *really* like to find the 720 version with fluted cylinder and standard hammer.

Anyone have a 720 of either version they'd like to sell?

For Sale... NOT!

Anyone have a 720 of either version they'd like to sell?

Not while I'm still amazed at how well this thing shoots. The only Rossi I've owned before was a 6" stainless 971 .357 Magnum. It was adequate, but nothing to write home to mom about. But I crap you negative, this latest DAO 720 is almost as easy to shoot DA with as my 625. Must not have been made on a Friday... ;)

Can't blame for tryin', huh? :)

>...this latest DAO 720 is almost as easy to shoot DA with as my 625. Must not have been made on a Friday...<

I ordered mine on a whim when distributors were clearing them out. I know of two others in my area [in addition to the one I sold <frown>] and they all shoot well, one after getting a little tune-up to ensure cylinder lockup.

I think it has a lot to do with the caliber...the .44 Special is inherently accurate after all those decades of development.

Zander,

Actually the .44 Special was originally designed for accuracy. At the time it came out the premier caliber for target shooters was the old S&W .44 Russian. When the Special was designed it was intentionally made to be a smokeless powder equivalent to the black powder loaded Russian. And for years after its introduction it indeed remained the choice of many target shooters.

Zander,

My e-mail function is inoperable so I'm sending this to you this way. You said you, "Would *really* like to find the 720 version with fluted cylinder and standard hammer". Give a call to Ron and Jo's Firearms, 1562 Frontage Road, O'Fallon, Illinois 62269, Telephone (618) 628-7480. He has one in the case and at least one more in the safe. Adjustable sights, fluted cylinder, spur-hammer. $260. If you're interested I'm sure you could arrange a transfer through whoever you usually deal with. Lazarus

Zander,

You're sure welcome. Hope things work out the way you
want. BTW, neglected to mention they don't open till
noon during the week so if you don't get them this am
be sure to try again later. We are undergoing a *major*
snowstorm at the moment but I'm sure someone will be there.

After S&W came out with the M696 I was hoping Ruger would follow suit with a 3in 44spl GP100, well maybe next year.

Tamara, are you a "size queen" when it comes to weapons?
Now everyone else get your minds out of the gutter that I'm in.
Moderator, if this is offensive, please remove, but I couldn't resist."

Personal I don't about the "size queen" thing, But After I visited her web site, All I have to say is "Any woman that is into Firearms, Motorcycles, and Video games has to be Heaven Sent!

I was trying to make a joke

However I understand that not everyone has my sense of humor.

Elmoh, I too am an admirer of Tamara. That's why prefaced my post the way I did. If anyone else finds it offensive I'll be the first one to remove it, unless a moderator gets to it first.

Apologies if it's too rude, as a matter of fact I just deleted it
