S&W 625-7 in .45LC.
1. Power, reliability.
2. Point-and-click under stress.
3. Springs at rest as it sits there.
4. Wife & daughters can use it (or other, smaller revolvers we have handy). They shoot well at SD/HD distances, but not enough to stay current on the more involved manual of arms of an auto. They also lack hand strength to rack slides.
5. Downside is capacity, obviously.
I carried autos in 24 yrs Army & like 'em just fine--wouldn't want anything else in military or modern LE environment, BTW--but I think items 1-4 above convince me to use revolver in HD environment. (Also, the sidearm is really my option for checking out the strange noise or finding out why the dogs are barking. If I believe I'm under attack, I expect to use the 20 gauge pump under the bed. . .while hoping its magazine spring hasn't failed, which has happened a couple of times in another gun of same make & similar design
