BedSide Firearm

S&W 625-7 in .45LC.

1. Power, reliability.
2. Point-and-click under stress.
3. Springs at rest as it sits there.
4. Wife & daughters can use it (or other, smaller revolvers we have handy). They shoot well at SD/HD distances, but not enough to stay current on the more involved manual of arms of an auto. They also lack hand strength to rack slides.
5. Downside is capacity, obviously.

I carried autos in 24 yrs Army & like 'em just fine--wouldn't want anything else in military or modern LE environment, BTW--but I think items 1-4 above convince me to use revolver in HD environment. (Also, the sidearm is really my option for checking out the strange noise or finding out why the dogs are barking. If I believe I'm under attack, I expect to use the 20 gauge pump under the bed. . .while hoping its magazine spring hasn't failed, which has happened a couple of times in another gun of same make & similar design :-)

I keep a boomarang on the bedside table. If a bad guy comes in, I can throw it at him and it will knock him out of the action and then come back to me so I don't even need to get out of bed.

Yes! A sense of humor. Thank you!

I keep my Sig 220 stainless elite at the bedside. It is reliable. I shoot it a lot and I shoot it well. In an emergency my instincts are honed to the Sig DA/SA.

If the gun you shoot well and shoot a lot is a revolver, put that by your bedside.

My bedside/ and everywhere else gun.

Also pictured in the lower left hand corner is my most used shooter of all.:p
I shoot that one the most. Satelite telivision. I can hit the mark with that remote from across the room, and I only have to reload it ever six months with fresh batteries.:D

XD45 Tactical sleeps under my head on the floor. A flash light and, recently, a spare mag keep it company. The 20g for the wife is in the closet, and the 12g is hidden under the bed where I'm more likely to be able to grab it. Thoughts are I'll grab the handgun and move to guard the door while she runs to the closet to grab her weapon. After she is armed I may consider grabbing my shotgun.

I considered keepin the 45 under my pillow but could not shake the thought of accident discharge:eek:

SW 29 44 mag with 4 inch barrel , loaded with glasser rounds. 2 HKS speedloaders next to it.

Mossberg 500 12 gauge by the closet door and Sig 229 .40 as a back up. :D

S&W 5906 with Crimson Trace Lasergrips, loaded with 15 rounds of Remington 124 gr Golden Sabers.

1. It always go bang.
2. Gun is plenty accurate for SD/HD situations--especially with CTC.
3. Weight of gun keep recoil to a minimum.
4. Double Action of first shot very similar to revolver.
5. Great capacity.

For me, it's my Kimber Stainless Pro Carry (.45ACP). My Kimber is the most accurate gun I own and with the night sights, are unbeatable combination. I don't expect to have a major fire-fight within the confines of my home...all I need is something with adequate stopping power. What says "HALT" better than a .45 semi-auto?

And just in case there is a hostile assault squad trying to gain ground within my house, my trusty AR-15 with a 30 Magazine and ACOG night scope is hanging above my bed as well as my extremely crap-kicking pump action 12 gauge shotgun.

Glock 21 with a Streamlight TLR-1

Sandard velocity 230 gr Golden Sabers, so there's no supersonic crack on top of the normal sound of the report.

Don't need that added noise in a hallway.

Being a wheelgun guy, my usual bedside coice is one of my 629's. I've got tons of rounds on big bore wheelguns so they feel super natural to me. I've got at least one HKS speedloader stashed in each room. Everything is stoked with medium velocity 240 grain SWC loads. Occasionally I just leave my CCW 41 mag Taurus Tracker next to me with my Maxfire speedloaders handy. Recently I traded into a 3 inch Taurus 441 44 Special that I really like. Been using that lately as I haven't CCWed lately so the big ones are in the safe. Besides the handguns, a lil' Surefire eye melter, my cell phone, and my 10 gauge coach gun. Can't have a dog in my rental, but I do have a 20 something pound cat that can lick an intruder to death in nothin' flat. Either that or he will trip them rubbin on their legs as they creep through the house.

All steel, full size, 1911, 8+1. Because I am somewhat groggy when I first wake up, . . . it is fully loaded, . . . but has the hammer eased down on the half cock slot, . . . so that I have to purposefully decide to shoot.

About 10" away from it, . . . M1A fully loaded and ready, . . . an AR fully loaded and ready sits on the left side of the gun safe, . . . 6 rounds loaded into the semi-auto shotty that is on the right side, . . . if it gets that far.

I'm fortunate in that I have a bedroom designed to allow me to use my gun safe door as cover for my firing position that defends our bedroom. Ammo is right there if I need it.

May God bless,
Dwight
