Bad guys in my area are starting to wear vests

A Taurus Judge to the groin area with 410 buck shot should do the trick.
Might not kill him but it will give him other things to think about.

Falcon--get a Tokarev, they are super thin and surprisingly ergonomic. Based on the 1911. Not sure I'd trust the safety or half-cock, but you can train to rack as you draw

Maybe then a Yugo Tokarev. Supposedly those have a factory thumb safety as opposed to the ones tacked on account of import requirements (as seen with the Polish, Romanian, etc versions). Course I dunno how good a safety it really is. But you do get an extra round of ammo capacity compared to the CZ-52 or standard Tokarev.

But I think there's a bit of a problem with opting for a 7.62x25. One should be a little more utilitarian about these matters. A typical armed citizen, if they're gonna need a firearm for self-defense, it's far, far more likely that they're in an encounter with an attacker without body armor than with body armor. The Tokarev round is a hot little round, but 99.999% of what's out there for it is FMJ ammo which will penetrate some types of body armor and still have enough juice to do some damage, but an x25 FMJ is not an ideal round for a BG not wearing body armor. They're fantastic guns and all, but I am not sure how prudent it is to go for a gun more effective against armor but less suitable otherwise.

Wearing a vest

Most people who try out vests, not for work, tend to have them a bit low, so put your finger at the notch, at the base of the throat, then about an inch below that, treat that as your aiming spot, actually from that point, and up.

So, 10 or 12 inches vertical, 2.5 " wide bar, throw rounds at it!
Use a IPSC/USPSA cardboard target for practice, pen lines from eye level to 12" down, 2.5" wide. Buy the Target Barn, 3/4" wide patch tape, way better than the wee square patches, patch every two magazines.

Distances? 6' to 15'? What ever. Bursts of 3 or 4? up to you.
Both hands/single/ and not forgetting weak hand. Do this in a panic, from the holster, while taking a stride, left and right. One hundred rounds goes fast!

Keep Safe.

FN Five-Seven. I dont think it is supposed to pierce armor in civilian loads but if there's a gun that will do its the FN Five-Seven. Check it out, awesome round that gun fires (To me, lets not get in a verbal war about it).

Seller & Bellot makes some hollowpoint 7.62x25 ammo but yeah, expanding ammo is not ideal for vests and vice versa.

--Another vote for staying out of gang territory :p

Not all vests are the same they are rated for calibers, higher makes the vest heavier so there is a compromise in that regard. Use of FMJ may improve the penetration of a weaker vest.

And even with a vest, if the round is powerful enough, isn't there a small potential for a fatality from blunt force trauma alone? While it may not be fatal, I am sure some Federal American Eagle 44Magnum 240g JHPs (1230fps) will inflict a hurtin' on somebody as would the even hotter JSPs (1280fps per Federal) they offer. Based on the section over at The Box O' Truth where they test different rounds against Level IIIa armor, the area behind the clay was dented pretty heavily. With a powerful enough round, such as my aforementioned 44Magnum loads or my Brenneke Black Magic Magnum (1-3/8oz) slugs, I would think it would be bad news if any vitals were behind the point of impact on the vest.

spray the head area with the new kel tec 30 round .22 handgun?

this topic got me thinking. i have a cheap but very functional turkish mauser 8mm and lots of ww2 ammo thats still good. i might make that my truck gun. would that go through high level body armor?

or should i have my sig 522(.22lr) with 50 round drum and spray down a bad guy's face(thats wearing body armor on a shooting spree)?

The entrances to my home face other houses front and rear. If home invaded, I plan to shoot for the pelvis so that misses and over-penetrations are more likely to go into the turf than into my neighbor's homes. Those same pelvis shots are likely to go under any armor that is likely to be worn.

IIRC...

.... back in the late 80's, a deputy in the Orlando area was saved by his vest, but the impact trauma of the .357 round the vest stopped still induced cardiac arrest.

He survived, and was happy he was wearing the vest. He was also happy the responders knew CPR.

What does the Mayor and police chief of these two towns and the govenor of the county and state have to say about the goings on here? I say get all of them involved as the higher up you go the less likely they are aware of the problem.

After reading this I went over and talked to my neighbor, he is in a supervisory position (asked not to have much divulged about him).
He was on Salt Lake City SWAT for 12 years before being promoted to his current position.
They came across a few perps wearing body armor during his time on SWAT.
He said the protocol they used was, double tap or 3 round burst to center mass and then just below waistline on either side of center.
Headshots were discouraged for anyone other than the sharpshooters.
The low abdomen-pelvis shot was used for a few reasons.
#1 A miss would not be as likely to strike another person, angled down to the floor.
The entrances to my home face other houses front and rear. If home invaded, I plan to shoot for the pelvis so that misses and over-penetrations are more likely to go into the turf than into my neighbor's homes.
#2 A hit to the pelvis or hip will usually slow down or outright stop the assailant, also major blood vessels...ie femoral artery.
#3 It's alot easier to hit the pelvic region than a head when it's moving or shooting at you.

He also said 147gr Hydrashoks went almost unoticed by the perp when wearing a vest, one guy didn't even flinch when hit by a 3 round burst out of his HK.

A head shot with a .40 should do the job. Otherwise in this situation I would also keep an AR-10 (or a DPMS LR8M4) close by. Either rifle will produce the desired result regardless of shot placement. Adittionally if you are a reloader find some 30/06 surplus A/P (available on line and at gunshows) pull the bullets and load them on to commercial .308 Winchester brass then keep a 20 round mag full of these for your AR-10 handy in case the need arises.

Right. As we all know, head shots are no problem, since Bubba and his friends will likely be standing still when you open fire. Take 'em one by one using the bowling pin technique.

And, oh yes, A/P. Good stuff to use in your home considering it's awesome ability to penetrate any vest---PLUS your house and a couple neighbors' as well.

^No reason to knock A/P for trying to be considerate of the safety of others living near him. Seems like he has the right idea judging form the post above from EX SWAT man.

There have been some gang bangers here caught with body armor. Mostly stage II with some beat up III from what I've heard. Over all the thugs keep it on there side of town. With this town being basically 1/3 white, 1/3 black, 1/3 native american. It can explode from time to time. And is handled on the QT. And is a small town.

For defeating the vest here I have a CZ-52 and some hot 7.62x39 for the AK. If those are not in my hands then The .357, .45 and 9mm will take pelvis, hip, thigh, lower neck to head shots. And don't forget the arm pit and shoulder area's.

As for moving out. I'm against that big time! My neighbor hood has taken a big hit. Older homes, lower incomes. But we like it! The thugs tried to make themselves known and pretty much got the msg. That whole hood is armed!!! And we mean to keep our places. We have had several issues with the thugs around here. A few stabbed, a few beat real bad with firearms. I knocked the teeth and the roof out of a thugs mouth with a 12 ga. a few years ago. And there have been a few shootings. They know,,, go over there they play for keeps and then some. Do Not Let the Thugs Run You Off!!!!!!
