Anybody getting extremely frustrated ammo hunting?

Back ordered = can't find primers.
Back ordered only means can't find primers if you are so antsy and impatient that you can't wait for them.

Personally, I've got primers. And I've got even more primers on the way, they just shipped. Why? I ordered them a month ago, even though they were backordered. Eventually, they got here and/or will get here. It just takes a little bit of time.

Call it delayed gratification if you want. Or the fruits of patience.

Would you rather be in my shoes right now -- with primers in hand and more on the way, having waited for the backorders to clear, or yours with no primers and no prospects for primers?

Think about it.

I've been waiting and waiting because this is the perfect "straight line" but nobody is biting so I'll take it myself....

What Caliber for Ammo Hunting?

:D

Back ordered = they don't have any, and don't know when they will get them. Assumptions make an ass out of you and me.
I have 3,000 primers, I'm talking in general terms. I'm also talking about myself if this shortage continues long term.
Besides, I'm not paying some big hazmat fee, unless you buy a ton you might as well buy factory ammo. (assuming you can find it).

Most of the forums I frequent have the same thread, where's ammo and anouncements as to which store received ammo. Everyone is hording!
I Haven't given a darn since I got my Dillon 55B and bunches of caliber conversions about 1 1/2 years ago. Now the onlyu thing I look for is powder and primers and they have not been too hard to find but the price is higher. Bullets are easy to order on-line if the local stores don't have what you want.

If you are going to use walmart then you need to know when to get there. They get shipments of ammo every 2-3 days and it arrives in sporting goods counter at about 5-6 pm.Some stores will very alittle, but for the most part they run the same.Infact last night i got 6 boxes of blazer brass .40 cal for $11.87 abox and a box of rem .357 125 gr jsp for $21.93.

Four days ago i bought 3 boxes of federal classic .38 jhps on-line for $19.00 a box and they arrived last night.

Then you aren't looking in the right place. The sites where I order, they state an expected ship date.

Assumptions make an ass out of you and me.
Not hardly. It demonstrates that you don't have the wherewithal to effectively shop. Your lack of persistence and skill in shopping does not make an ass out of me.

I have 3,000 primers, I'm talking in general terms.
If you have 3K primers on hand, then you have enough on hand to make backorder orders, you have enough to get you by until your order(s) arrive.

Besides, I'm not paying some big hazmat fee
Then you must not want nor need primers bad enough. If you really want them, if you really need them, then you'll backorder them and pay the shipping and HAZMAT fees. If not, then don't complain about the lack of primers. The real problem is that you don't want to pay what it takes to get them, and that you don't want to wait for them to arrive. Or, keep on looking locally. Maybe you'll find some that you're willing to pay for. Or not. Not my problem. :barf:

unless you buy a ton you might as well buy factory ammo. (assuming you can find it).
Of course, you realize that even paying HAZMAT I still end up paying much less than factory, assuming that I could find it. And assuming that I was even looking for it, which I am not. And you make the unfounded assertion that the only reason one would reload is to shoot for cheaper. While that is A reason I reload, it is by no means the ONLY reason I reload. Even if it were as expensive or even more expensive to reload (which it isn't) than it would be to buy factory ammo, I'd still reload.

Stopped in local Wally World about an hour ago. The only handgun ammo on shelf was about a case of 22`s and one box of WWB 40 S&W for $16.78. Now they only have 22`s left;). Manager showed me order slip and tonight they`re supposed to be receiving 6 whole value packs of 9mm($48.75) and 10 whole boxes 40 S&W both in UMC:rolleyes:. Told me all that would probably be gone by tomorrow @3:00pm. Don`t care for UMC(dirty) but guess I`ll have to stop in @ 0400 on way to work, find a manager with keys for ammo case to sell me some:rolleyes:. Can`t wait to get new loader fired up:D

I agree it has been frustrating. Especially with the .380 with is what my wife packs. I have about 400 rounds on hand and will not shoot any of it until it comes back. The same with my .45 although there is still some of that to be had here in Salt Lake.

What amazes me is how hard the .22 ammo is to find. I have been buying some every time I find it but it is scarce. I am up to about 2500 rounds of it so now I can go target shooting and still have a supply left.

I talked to our local gun store about .380 and was told it will be scarce for a year or so. Apparently there was really only one brand of .380 being sold up until about a year ago. Now that the .380 has gained popularity with the Bersa and whatnot there isn't enough ammo.

One thing you can bet your dollar on, is when ammo is plentiful again, it will be twice as much in price if not more.

+1 Elvishead! Just think what would have happened if The green Party Canidate had won(Cynthia McKinney)

I have had no problems finding Primers or components. I don't go to Big Box stores for my stuff. I shop at the smaller Ma and Pa gun stores where they know me and know what they are talking about. I don't want to be lectured by some mall Ninja, overweight, pimple faced, stick armed, pencil necked geek that knows next to nothing about firearms, ammo or reloading. What he does know he got off of the Halo game or read on the internet. Here is what I am talking about:

Would buy a gun from this guy:barf:? I threw up in my mouth when I saw that Photo:eek: But that is what the guy at the Big Box store looks like.
The small shops have stuff.

I have never ordered online but I have gone in with other memebers of my shooting club and got large amounts of stuff to include ammo. Most clubs will do that and its a good way to split up the Hazmat.

Sam06, When I saw that pics. it reminded me of the discription Wildalaska painted of himself without the collander and tinfoil.:D:D:D

Not to pat my self on the back, but I will any way. :o
Last fall before the craziness started I went to Dicks sporting goods stores and cleaned out there shelves of 9mm and 45 ACP several weekends in a row when they had 9mm for $7.85 a box and 45 ACP for $10.95 by the case.
Let’s just say the look I got on the Sunday mornings when I got there as they opened up and I said “I’ll take every thing you have” was priceless.
Then the one idiot behind the counter asked “What kind of machine gun do you have?”
My wife answered (I kid you not) “He has them all!”
I don’t really have any, she was just having fun with the person behind the counter.
I don’t want any one to think that I am stockpiling large amounts of ammo; we are talking about 7 or 8 cases each time (500 per case).
My wife and I will shoot that up in 3 to 4 years. But when I find a good buy for ammo I tend to take advantage of the opportunity.
That same Winchester white box is selling at Dicks for 9mm $16.95 and 45 is $20 and were only talking about 6 months that have gone by.
My suggestion is that if you find what looks like a good buy, better step up to the plate, because things are only going to get worse.

You know, the photo didnt effect me,, then some one had to mention Rosie O'Donnell,,,
Well there goes breakfas,,,,,,,,,,,

You buy in case lots, and then wonder why its all gone?

Face it, the current buying frenzy has a lot of us regular shoppers ticked off. Between local shortages, huge price increases, and people buying all the ammo they can a inflated prices every time they can find some, its a sellers market.

All the guns and ammo I saw at the last couple gunshows I went to were higher priced than they ought to be, and the places were packed. People are scared about losing the ability to buy guns and ammo, and are willing to pay throught the nose to "get something" today.

Too bad they weren't scared enough to elect different politicians last November.

Went to Wal-mart with the wife today and they had 6 WWB 9MM in 100pack. So I just bought two boxs would have gotten more but had bought a case of 9MM last week. And found stuff to reload 1000 more. But two guys behind me got the other 4 boxs.
