Anybody Carry A Revolver?

When back packing I carry a Ruger Bisley 45LC with the barrel cut to 5.5 inches in a custom work over (with great big quick acquisition sights) by Hamilton Bowen of Louisville, TN. I load it with 225gr. Barnes all-copper HP.

I sometimes carry my Ruger SP101 (2.25" barrel, 357 mag). If not this one, I carry my Kimber.

I have a Galco owb holster which both fit in perfectly. Don't know how or why but it works.

Revolvers are antiquated ancient machinery that is 100% guaranteed to get you killed because it doesn't have 18+1 rounds of .40 S&W, a tac rail with tac light, and most are not tactical flat tac black. Tac.

That's what most people seem to think these days, but after seeing this thread it appears there is still some sense in the world. :)

I carry a S&W 642-1 No-Lock every day with a Barami hip grip with a silver Tyler T grip adapter. Nice looking package, hits hard enough, wonderfuly reliable, never have to worry if I racked a round in the chamber, don't have to worry about a safety of any sort, don't have to worry about bumping the mag release, don't have to worry period.

I just load it up with 5 rounds of Speer GDSB 135 grain .38 special +P, and stuff that little sucker in my waistaband and cinch by belt snug. Stays in place all day, light as a feather, ready to rock and roll 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Yeah, it works for me, and I have absolutely no plans to change.

Yes. And it's "only" 5 shot 38 special. S&W model 36. I don't pay much attention to the fear merchants.

I'm grinning ear to ear thinking about all of the folks reading that and starting to get their back up as I started to! :D Good one Model12Win ;)

Never, never leave home without my trusty 642 S&W. It is a very comfortable feel. Sometimes I carry a second gun, usually my Bond Arms Rustic Ranger derringer in .38/.357.

Here is the S&W 642 I mentioned in post #44 of this thread:

She rides with me everywhere I go. We're quite the team, if I do say so myself.

How do the last 2 posters hang on to those things? My long fingers can't abide by those puny grips. Sorry, not to offend, just fact.

I occaisionally carry a Ruger SP101 3" .38 SPL with a Hogue monogrip with .38+P 129 gr. Federal Hydrashoks. Old school: yes! I'm old enough to not worry about being in a protracted gunfight, so 5 rounds is pretty much enough...

(yeah, but what about that speedloader you keep in your side jacket pocket?)

Oh, sorry... I failed to mention that!

I like 1911 .45 Gummint Models best, but DA revolvers are pretty much no-brainers to use in the heat of things. Hardest thing is remembering how many shots you fired, and that is not as easy as one would think... in the heat of things... whereas 1911 pistols lock back on an empty mag and a new loaded 1911 mag is usually faster than a speedloader (unless you are Jerry Miculek).

DA revolvers are great things.

I was wondering the same thing. But the question here is, if we carry it, or not.:D
When it's very windy, I carry a hole lot of them. Loaded yes, of course, lead is heavy.

I have tried different grips on my 638. Checkered Altamonts, and non rubber overmould Crimson Trace. I went back to the original S&W grip. The rubber is just tacky enough for a positive grip, and my hand covers it enough that it doesnt cause issues when drawing from my pocket. Since its a .38, crushing recoil, and slipping in my hand, isnt an issue with this revolver, like it would be with a lightweight .357

I carry a 442...just handy to pocket with uncle mikes #4.
Rather it be shorts/pants pocket or a heavy winter coat pocket.
A lot of times it role is bug.

No problems on my end.

Since taking the pic I roughed up by Barami hip grips with some steel wool to give a bit more grips, but with the Tyler Ts and my average sized hands I've no issues at all keeping a firm hold on the gun and it doesn't feel cramped.

I usually carry a semi auto, but sometimes a Taurus 85CH stainless with Altamont boot grips in a Don Hume holster or in my coat pocket.

I'm not one of those two, but I sort of thought the same thing until I tried one. Even with some fairly snappy P+ loads it wasn't a problem to control after all.

Now my wife didn't care for the grips on her 642, but that was more because they were checkered wood and bit into her hand. I put a set of Hogues that have room for a three finger grip on hers, so she's got a little better grip all around. I'm going to try them the next time out myself to see how I like them. They're not really much bigger.
