ANOTHER school shooting?!

Our schools are killing fields. The children obviously can't defend themselves and nobody is interested in defending them, only in scoring political points. Here's a link to an article on the JPFO website. Might work here.

Wow, far from an Amish pardise, I guess he didnt turn the other cheek when some one kicked him in the butt.

An Amish with a tude you know thats unheard of!

I respect everyones opinion here. Most posts now are searching for answers on what could/needs to be done to prevent any more school shootings.
But I still strongly believe that the perp could have been stopped if there was an adult there that has a CCW. This seems to be the only solution that could have stopped it faster than the police could have. I`m not saying the good guy could always shoot the bad guy before he shoots someone, but it is a fact he/she can stop the bad guy before he kills too many innocent people.
Having CCW permits makes a lot more sense than spending tons of money on cameras, unarmed security gaurds, resource officers, or whatever. Are cameras, and some senior citizen security guard going to stop someone from getting killed? I don`t think so. This is the kind of crap the media tries to pawn off as a solution. They want you to think you do`nt have a right to defend yourselves and your families.
There is a fact in the FBI statistics, that says, in states without the right to carry laws, there have been 15 school shootings.
In states that allow citizens to carry guns, there has been only 1 school shooting.
Five school shootings that occured during the 1997-98 school year, took place after the 1995 Gun-Free School Zone law was enacted, banning guns within 1,000 feet of a school.
Now you tell me what makes better sense.

Great article from JPFO from the perspective of having to live in an armed camp.

Hell, lets just have the Army in our schools

I thought it was pretty good... although it dealt with a totally different topic than what we face.

Random crazies that snap are very different critters than terrorists who collaborate and plan. Neither tend to choose to attack police stations over schools, though.

I think, HOPE, that there's a position in between a) an area filled with defenseless people that have proven to be targets of misfits and b) yeehaw, give everyone in the school from 2nd grade up a .40, because by god if everyone has a gun violent crime becomes impossible.

At which point does pro-2nd activism become self-parody?

I`m all for that too. He states the problem isgun control. Good idea to have the older kids trained in self defense.:)

How do you qoute someone when making replies?

Thing Im pissed off the most about is that if he would have come closer to me I probably would have been forced to pop him...he wasnt showing a weapon but he was huge and on something and while I feel I can handle myself (despite my advancing years, pot belly and wimpy size) this guy would have been a handfull and I would have taken some punishment. Couple that with the fact that I was on my property and was basically UNABLE to retreat (I was backed into a car), I am sure it would have been a righteous shoot...but than what a hassle with paperwork and the like...

One thing that is important is attitude...while I am a nice, kind pussycat of a guy and never look for trouble, and despite of the fact that I look like a runty ungroomed rabbi, for some reason (or so I am told by my coworkers) I look either crazy or (as one guy told me) a "grandpa with an attitude"...I think this coupled with the gun drove this street scum off......

Emphasis is my addition.

I'm extremely confused. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. Sounds a lot like 6 girls in a Colorado classroom, or several more girls in a Pennsylvania classroom.

Not saying you're a girl... just that you were a potential victim. Why should your physical safety be any less valuable on your property rather than at another place you spend 1/3 of your day?

Please explain.

Yep. Well, I'm going to move along, not much left to see here. Plus I have around 700 websites to restore index file by index file along with my own personal ones. Oy.

b) yeehaw, give everyone in the school from 2nd grade up a .40, because by god if everyone has a gun violent crime becomes impossible.

Buull ooney, Hiest. When citizens are allowed to carry concealed weapons:
• Murder rates drop 8%
• Rape rates fall 5%
• Aggravated assaults drop 7%
The list goes on.

Right, right. CCW shifts crimes against person to crimes against property.

What does that have to do with what I am saying? I'm pro ccw. I'm pro ccw in schools. I'm pro-let-the-individual-schools-do-whatever-the-heck-they-want-regarding-guns.

I'm not one of the ones saying "we should make every teacher carry a gun and then nothing bad will happen in schools ever again."

That's a close cousin to the people who chime in on every violent crime where the victim wasn't armed with "if only that sheeple had had a gun..."

The keyword is "make." Allow teachers to carry if they qualify and wish to do so. CCW works because the BG's don't who's carrying and who's not carrying.

You want an end to the self-parody? Stop contributing to it by posting hyperbole like what is above. WHO said there is nothing between "an area filled with defenseless people" and "yeehaw, give everyone in the school from 2nd grade up a .40"?! What you posted is strawman nonsense! No wonder you think this is all self-parody.

Suggesting that interested teacher should have the recognized legal right to carry a defensive handgun is a million miles from suggesting arming second graders.

Would you please copy/paste a quote from anyone here who said we should "MAKE every teacher carry a gun"? How could you think that posting that would come across as anything but a strawman?

And there is nothing wrong with recognizing that many victims of violent crime may well have fared better if they had availed themselves of a handgun -- or been allowed to do so by law.

Really, what is with you and the strawmen tonight??

Amish

Perhaps one of the most innofensive cultures in America, and perfect targets for violence. My prayers for the families of the victims.

And on that kind note, let us end the discussion for now.

<yoda>Much noise, little signal in this thread, there is.</yoda>

Perhaps a more limited discussion on the topic of armed adults in schools would be in order.
