This one at an Amish school?!

I really have to wonder, why so many; why all of the sudden?

Remember back a few years, when there was a spate of school shootings, office shootings, etc. There was loose talk about how it could be stuff conspiratorially put together by the anti-gun crowd, breaking a few eggs to force the country to make their anti-gun omelet?

MAN, this makes a person wonder.

Anyway, in the wake of this, a hypothetical:

What do you think would happen to the gun debate if it were actually found -- irrefutably -- that HCI (now "The Brady Campaign") DID ENGINEER a bunch of school or office shootings in order to make gun ownership look bad enough to outlaw??

Do you think that would really turn the whole debate around? Do you think mouthpieces for gun control like Dan Rather and the rest would publicly disavow gun control after exposure of gun control advocates actively causing shootings in order to make the issue more dire? Do you think that the anti-gun public would doublethink it all away and still go on believing in the need for gun control (to stop school shootings that were contrived in the first place)?

Hmmm...

Amish school shooting - at least 6 dead

These are becoming all too common.

Police Surround One-Room Amish Schoolhouse

Police responded to a multiple shooting and hostage situation in eastern Lancaster County this morning at a small, one-room Amish schoolhouse, where a state police officials said "a number" of people were shot to death.

News 8 reporter Anne Shannon said people who were inside the scene told her that Lancaster County has never seen a tragedy like this.

"This is definitely an enormous scene," Shannon said.

The scene is along the 4800 block of Mine Road in Bart Township. Early reports indicate that man named Roy entered the schoolhouse this morning and started making threats. Some people in the Amish community learned about the situation and contacted police. Negotiations took place. But at some point, at least 10 shots were fired within the school. Police said the hostage taker shot himself.

Lancaster General Hospital has called in all available personnel. They have been told to be prepared for a large number of patients.

John Lines of Lancaster General Hospital said so far they have received three "pediatric" patients. One of them is reportedly in critical condition.

Hershey Medical Center in Dauphin County has also been warned that they might be receiving patients.

News 8 is stressing that the situation does not involve the Faith Mennonite School or Bart-Colerain Elementary, which are near the scene.

Your kidding right?

IF it came out there would be a huge backlash but I really do not believe there is any chance of that happenning. Sadly there are plenty of crazy people out there willing to commit these crimes for their own sick reasons.

Notice how they happen in spurts...as the losers who had trouble with toilet training imitate each other....

HA! Good one. I'm thinking you would have to be a complete loser to feel this threatened by the Amish.

Yep... It happened with Columbine that way too. It's sick and depressing and disheartening.

It does seem to happen near election cycles, though. Probably just coincidence, but it is eerie.

Hopefully the Amish swat teams gear up as a result of this one.

Copycats looking for headlines. Perhaps NOT reporting the names of these people would be a good thing to do. If they are doing this for the attention then denying them that attention may help to prevent this. I still have more faith though in armed resistance.

Hmmm. If the Amish want to be completely self-sufficient, when who called 911 and why? Seems they would have taken care of business themselves. But perhaps I misunderstand Amish culture.

Sad.... the details should be enlightening.

I, too, have much more faith in armed resistance than in hoping-against-hope that we can keep unstable people from being exposed to the idea of going on a violent rampage.

Really, how successful could that ever be? Doesn't even matter if we report the incidents but leave the names out. The people who would want to do this stuff would know that someone would know their names; and they may not even care about the name being known so much as the effect of what they did.

As for the Amish being self-sufficient, and not relying on 911... I don't know squat about the avowed tenets of Amish life, belief, and practice. They put reflective triangles on the buggies they use on public roads, so I know they are not 100% exempting of modern things. I don't know, for example, whether survivors of this shooting will be given blood transfusions (lots of religions object to them, and I would expect Amish to do so as well).

Maybe this stuff will be discussed in Time and Newsweek so we can all get a good look at the truth and facts of the matter in weeks to come... (Okay, okay, but seriously!... :p )

The Amish are not a whole county to themselves. Non Amish homes and farms are also present. There are also plenty of Menenites "Amish Lite" around who use cars and such. I doubt the school had a phone but I bet there was one within running distance and gunshots heard coming out of a school does attract attention anywhere.

Amish school shooting

32 year old truck driver at Amish school. Who is this overly decorated South American general posing as a cop directing this press conference?
