50 yard shot, your 'go-to' handgun?

My most accurate handguns are my STI Targetmaster (9mm) and my Springfield EMP (9mm). I have never shot them at anything 50 yards away, but they'd give me the best chance to hit something at that distance.

Glock 26

Glock 26. No kiding. Most precise handgun I ever had. I outshoot IPSC Grandmasters with their custom 2011 IPSC raceguns with it. Don't know why, but I do.

The only handgun I own with which I've taken a shot as long as 50yds is my Detonics Combat Master. I fired three shots at an IPSC target at 75 yards, and hit it twice. If I had to do it now, on a bet, I'd use the longslide .45 that I use for IPSC competition.

50 Yard Shot

I would have to say my Kimber Custom II, i shot at a 5 inch Nerf ball at 100 and was consistently close to it, no hits though. I never hit the ball but I hit the stick that was stuck into the center of the ball and the ground. I stopped after 2 mags. Moved it in closer to around 45 - 50 yards and drilled it.

Given this was only a few days after I got the Kimber, my first handgun, and second time shooting a handgun.

I shot a skunk from 30+ yards with my Glock 20 today. The unlucky thing was standing on my target range. I first picked up my .22 rifle then I thought about this post a got out my Glock. I didn't have the nerve to try it at 50 yards though.

I agree with the folks who say people would be surprised at how often they can hit at 50yds. I'm no crack shot but I can consistantly hit a 12" plate at 80yds with my G30 off-hand standing. by consistant I mean 8 or 9 out of 10 shots.

I am shooting for longer than I care to admit, my eyesight is not what it has been once but I can still do okay in military competitions.

I have seen few people in all those years that can shoot a handgun well at 25 yards and 50 yards is even harder, thinking about the 8" diameter vital zone of IDPA alone.

Of my guns that I carry, there is my Colt Customs that comes to my mind first. Then a Glock 30.

Of the guns that I do not carry, it is easy for my SIG P210, Walther P88, S&W 19 in 4 and 6", S&W 686 in 6", and so on and so forth.

Many guns can do the job but in my experience few people have the skill with a handgun, while there are rifle shooters abundant.

Either my G17, or my .44 Redhawk, both of which are fitted out with Burris Fastfire red dots sights. Makes ringing the 85 yard gong at our hunting camp range pretty predictable while seated at the bench, so I guess they should do at 50.

went to the farm to shoot rifles yesterday, remembered this thread and shot this @50 yards kneeling resting wrists on the back of a chair.

I don't understand the resistence to shooting at 50 yards. Sounds like fun to me. In fact, it is huge fun and I do it often. I also shoot at 7 yards. Huge fun there too. Since when do shooters make arguments against shooting ANY guns at ANY distance?!
And hitting with serious mainline CCW handguns at 50 yards is easy. My usual target is a 6-inch round steel plate. Kimber UCII and S&W 66 3-inch are my main carry pieces. Each will easily ring the plate.

Well, GOOD FOR YOU, but some of us don't want to negligently kill somebody. LOL. Lighten up, little fellow.

You'll think I'm a bit crazy, but If I have to knock something down at 50 yards with a handgun, only two of mine will let me. 1 is my Dan Wesson 15-2, and the other is my Pietta 1858 .44 NMA Remington Replica (target model) shooting black powder, cap and ball. That 8 inch barrel gives it a bit of an edge.
