50 yard shot, your 'go-to' handgun?

I'll take this one :)

S&W Model 17 K-22 made in 1952. Not really defensive but if I was going to shoot a handgun at 50 yards it would be that one. 50 yards in a defensive situation I think i would be trying to evade before shooting.

Even with my P-3AT, at 50 yards the BG wouls have several new holes that were never included in Gods design. However, if the threat is that distant, I have other and better options!

Springfield V16 LongSlide in 45 Super. We shoot cans at 25 yards regularly. About every other time we shoot targets at 50 yards. By the way, it is my carry gun.

My 6" GP100, SS DW Valor, and glossy blue 75B. The 1st would probably be the easiest being it has the longest sight radius and it has great f.o. sights.

50 yards

I've got a 6" metal disk up behind the house, at not quite 50 yds but close enough. (that's where the natural backstop was).

I shot, and still shoot at it quite a bit. Twenty years ago, I hit it a lot more often with a handgun, than I do now.

My most consistent hits, when my eyes were thirty something instead of fifty something, were with a M-29 6", and a Ruger Mk II heavy bbl .22 with the medium length heavy barrel, .......5-1/2" or what ever they were. I shot both those pistols better than any other handguns in the arsenal. Oddly, I traded both, because they seemed so big and heavy holstered in the field. Seemed like all I used them for was to shoot at the gong. Finally decided I did not need gong pistols and got something else, a .44 Mtn Rev to replace the M29, and I think a Glock 20 - 10mm. A std Mk II 4" already on hand, sufficed for a .22 auto.

NOwdays, the eyes seem to see the front sight on my Dad old Single 6, w/ the what........6-1/4 in bbl, is what I think they have. It wears the .22 Mag cylinder and is zeroed for same.

With my CZ-75, 50 yards is absolutely nothing to me. I can hit a 12x12 plate more often than not.

At 100 yards, a 18x18 plate is the same.

With my Glock 17, I hit about 80 percent.

I've played around at 200 yards with my Glock some, trying to hit a 24x24 inch plate, and that's pretty tough. About 1 out of 10 shots, I'll make the connection...

Beretta 92FS, can make the shot every time with this gun. Ok, maybe not EVERY time, but about 8 out of 10 in the scoring ring.

Could make it with my NEOS or Buckmark too but they're only .22LR

Take in a Bullseye Pistol Match sometime, People shoot 50 yards all the time. And thats one handed standing on their hind legs.

Anyone who DOESN'T practise

@ 50 yds is DUMB.

You should least know where to hold over or part od the front sight to use for 50 yard plus shooting.

I've shot pistol silhouette with my T/C Contender, Security six & .45.

I have carried my .45 in Southern Michigan for back-up when using ML during regular firearms season.

Weaver stance @ 100 yds with S/T 230 HP or ball use the base of front sight , hold six on 50yd bull, you'll group in the upper half of black.

Embarrassment in practice is easy to get over, in reality, CAN BE DEADLY.

I didn't realize this was a 2-year-old thread, but
I would imagine trying to explain a 50 yard "self defense" shot to a judge/jury would prove quite difficult.
I hear/read this quite often, but if someone is shooting at me from that far (or farther), I'm sure going to return fire.

I've hit 50 and 100yd targets with my Glock 26 and my 19 regularly, so I should at least make them duck their heads and maybe reconsider their choice of target.

I'm liking my CZ52 for this, if I have to use a gun that I would carry every day.
My preference for this shot would be a carbine or my Redhawk .44 Mag.
My Taurus PT99 or EAA Witness 45 would do, as would my GP100.
Perhaps .32 H&R mag Single Six.
One of the pistols I'm most comfortable shooting as a Pietta Remington New army .44 cap and ball. The balance is great.

Maybe my H&R 22 revolver. Or a Benjamin Marauder .22 pistol (if I had one).
Or a Quackenbush .25 caliber PCP pistol

Too many variables.

I know, I'd want a pistol with a 40 yard long barrel.:D

Not the greatest shot in the world, but the taped over are 18 rounds two hand standing, holes are the 19 fired rested, LRN hand cast handload, all at 50 yards. :) Just need to work on that windage, think it's my trigger finger.
