If I was shopping for a .40, I'd opt for either a Kahr, a mini Glock, or perhaps a 1911 chambered for .40 s&w.

Most medium to full sized pistols aren't designed "around" the capacity limit, IMO. They just block off the mags and claim to be. (With some exceptioons. obviously.)

Seing how you specified mid to full size I will post from my experience. The mid sized Glock 23 is hard to beet in its category.

Fills the hand nicely yet you can still conceal it. Holds ten rounds of .40 and you can still get high caps for it if you look around. Its a real nice all around gun.

For the full size the G22 is also a nice shooter, very accurate, just dont plan on cocealing it with a T-shirt.

I will add this one anyway, the G27, the newest in my collection is to me the perfect concealment pistol on the market, very small and still holds nine rounds of .40, thats a small price to pay for a gun its size.

Good luck,
~Jason

Glock 23 is hard to beat, even though it was originally designed for 13 rounds. If you're interested in a "crunch-n-ticker," see if you can find an original S&W 4013 (not the newer TSW). The original is a slim, single stack semiauto designed for eight round mags. Compact, but not overly small. And the original is pre-S&W sellout.

I have the ruger P-94 I like it alot but I think there are better one's out there. I don't like the position of the safty. Its right where your pam is when you have to rack a cartige. Not very smooth but otherwise good gun, at a good price got mine last month for 425 brand new.

Richard,
You can take me to task for getting my numbers mixed up, but not the concept.
The original poster was looking for recommendations on mid size and full size. The G27 is sub compact.
I agree on how well they shoot. I have one, but it is just the basic model. Once you get used to it, I think it will out shoot the 22 or 23. At least it does for me.

Another vote for the USP 40c. Just got mine on Saturday, and haven't looked back.

Just decided yesterday to sell my STARFIRE in .40. If you're interested or curious; e-mail me.

There are so many good ones. I like the Glock 23 (with tritium sights) about as good as anything I've tried. I know it was designed for 13 rounds, but I don't have any problems with my 10 round magazines. (They don't look funny either.) This gun is just the perfect size and it is utterly reliable. It is easy to conceal for legal concealed carry, quick to get into action, has manageable recoil, super easy to take down and clean & reassemble, easy to get parts for, easy to get holsters for, etc. Around here in central Pennsylvania, they are somewhat hard to get, with backorders and a high price tag not uncommon. It's easy to see why. Just my .02c worth.

Good shooting. Be safe.

Have had my HK USP40c for three weeks now. What an awesome gun! I prefer to shoot the 180 gr. at the range (I find them easier to handle and more accurate). The gun has functioned smoothly and fed everything (range reloads, winchester, federal, cci blazer....) without a single glitch. Very easy to clean too.

Walther P99. Adjustable backstrap to customize the grip, various trigger/actions available (DAO, SA/DA, QA), ambidextrous mag release... lots of nice features. Fairly slim too. I love mine, very reliable so far. Enjoy the hunt! Oak

Not a Glock. Unsupported chamber=bad design. Not something Glock fans will acknowledge. "Glock Perfection" means ignoring making the guns better.

This can happen to Glock 40's. That might reduce the resale value.

See what fits best in your hand and then ask what people think.

PVerdiek,

I'm a big fan of GLOCK's, as well as Sigs, Beretta's, HK's ect...
So, I'm not defending GLOCK's or failing to acknowledge this can happen to a GLOCK when I say, it can happen to any make of gun, and has. Including but not limited to, the others listed above!

"Most" KB's are due to negligence, not on the part of the manufacturer, but on the part of the shooter.

ASG, here are the 40's I like:

GLOCK 23
Sig P226/229
Beretta 96G Elite
HK USP compact & fullsize

Also like the Steyr M40, & plan on purchasing one when it's "teething problems"
have been worked out!

Good Shootin'
long shot!

PVerdieck, that is a 45cal G30, not a 40. Any gun you own that ate a double charge like that one did would suffer the same fate. Being a Glock it will probably be replaced free.
ASG, I know the G23 wasn't designed from the ground up to hold 10 or less but it is a top choice to consider. Awesome gun.
