.40 is my preference for CCW, and I own a 1911 (gets carried sometimes) and a "modern" (polymer) .380 (my "always" gun). But other than .22s, I've shot far more rounds of .40S&W than anything else. I like it just fine.

Where's the "I'm a revolver guy" option?
Beat me to it :)

Don't care for the .40, but I'm ambivalent about black helicopters.

I do shoot "modern" handguns (I'm guessing you mean automatics?), but my preferences are 9mm or .45. Less recoil and better accuracy.

I wanted to vote "I have a .40, but prefer my revolvers." Is this a biased thread, purposely developed to try to exclude the revolver users? When will the injustices ever stop! :D

the .40 is a good cartridge for a lot of people. Again, with prices on used guns, especially the .40, I bet you will see more novice shooters starting out with them before to long. JMHO.

But really, are you discriminating against us revolver guys?

Don't need another caliber...

as I got it bracketed!

And I switch between revolvers & Semi's. Never had a problem and don't need to fall prey to ad-men persuasion.

I don't know why but I never much liked the .40. I mostly shoot 9mm and .38. If I want a bigger caliber I much prefer the .45 ACP. The .40 just doesn't fit a niche for me. Another reason is the fact that it's not a very popular cartridge in Europe, so it's harder to find and more expensive than 9mm and .45.

The .40 doesn't have anything I want, so I've never bought one. Don't really like what I hear about it either, so unless it becomes the new 9mm price-wise, I'll likely stay away.

I dunno...I distrust dark colored helicopters :D I recently got a .40 (Smith Wesson SW99) and like it so-so...it doesn't make me fuzzy all over, but I don't abhor it either; I like wheelies first and foremost and my so-so attitude toward my .40 has me on the fence; planning a long session at the range ringing out a used S&W 67 (.38 spl stainless K frame 6 shot revolver w/ 4" barrel) I recently got, a 'make it or break it' session with the SW99 to see if it stays or goes, and a 'should it stay or should it go' session with a Ruger GP100 w/ 6" barrel (recently got dad's S&W 686 and that's not going anywhere);

guess I'm on the fence with some of my wheelies, but I got to shrink the collection and sell some off to pay some upcoming bills;

I own 1 gun chambered in .40S&W and I wish it was a 9mm!
I have nothin against the .40 but I dont carry it and 9mm punched holes in paper cheaper.

Uncanny topic relevance ---

TODAY, I started a list of guns I'd like to have, but do not own yet, in .40.
I like the cartridge, but would like to have the firearms listed in this non-traditional cartridge selection for their respective platform.

1. 1911. Possibly a Para-Ordnance Tac-Four LDA.
2. Browning Hi-Power 'Practical'. Nice gun.
3. S&W 610. Yes, it was made for both 10mm & ..40, but on the L-Frame for the .357.
4. Revolver by Charter Arms. Still waiting on the new gun in .40.
5. AR15 Pistol. 10mm or .40 is interesting to me.

Highest on the list would be the new offering by Charter Arms.
My interest lies in having additions to the collection, without expanding the caliber/cartridge requirement.

Interesting cartridge.
Interesting guns.
Interesting to ME. :D

I find the recoil characteristics of .40 annoying. I've owned a couple, and shot several more. I just don't like the round. I have no doubt of its effectiveness, I just personally don't like to shoot it. For that matter, I've also moved away from 9mm. Now I may own more 9mm's some day, but for the present time they hold no place in my inventory.

My handguns (aside from my .22LR plinkers/trainers, and my pocket rockets) are .357 Mag or .45 ACP. I figure "when you care enough to send the very best....." :D.

I own and carry a 0.40
I also own a 1911 and several other pistols and revolvers in many calibers.

And no, I am not changing the colour of my helicopter, regardless of what you guys have to say:D

Brgds,

Danny

Just this year I purchased my first forty.

I had never cared for the round until I fired it in a P35. Then I was hooked, like a lady of ill repute on crack. I like that it's almost impossible to find a "bad" bullet in forty. With the 9mm I am very critical of what I will use and carry. Sometimes I cannot get one of my selected 9mm loads at the local Gun Emporium and I believe the forty gives me a little more margin for error in regards to bullet selection over the 9mm.

I liked the .40 S&W Hi Power so much I bought two of them. :)

As far as black helicopters. Aren't all helo's supposed to be black? I don't much worry about black helicopters and also like revolvers, so I didn't vote.

Biker

I got a .40 and a 1911 (Not the same one though ;)).

As for Black helicopters....I don't trust them, but I ain't using my .40 on them......I got bigger stuff :D

I own a .40 S&W CZ-75B. Recoil is not an issue(to me) in 9mm, .40, or .45 ACP in a full size service auto. It's just another choice and who doesn't like to have multiple choices? I live close to three hospitals so lots of choppers fly low over my house. Can't tell them from the evil black ones.
