...as a former local and Federal LEO, I agree that the realcops.net forum is quite thin skinned when it comes to anything negative about LEO's on the wrong side of the law...I too had a thread deleted 'cause they just don't want to hear the truth..in any event, it is an issue today that thankfully, has improved the professional status of local police....local PD's will no longer tolerate the image of a "donut" cop, nor will they tolerate so-called professional courtesies extended to a miscreant who thinks he/she deserves any and all breakes, simply for wearing a badge...if you cannot hold yourself to a much higher standard than the rest of the citizenry, than you have no business in law enforcement. Serpico was the beginning of taking down rogue cops, and though we still have problems, the penalties for operating outside of the professional norm are getting harsher...this thing called the "brotherhood" is BS; if all that the brotherhood means is that you are no different than the mafia thugs who also have this oath of "omerta"...I say play cop at your own risk....people like me, and many more like me will be in the shadows, waiting for you to trip up, and we will take you down...
BTW, I was intimately involved in the Knapp Commission in the 1970's...the results were never to my satisfaction, but thankfully there are a greater number of better educated and a more ethical pool of potential recruits than there were back then. It;s getting better, but too slow for my tastes.
