Y'all forgive me. I done messed up.

I can't & won't support *&*.
I don't approve of folks doing business with them.
I approve of this country and the freedoms we enjoy.
I'm glad you have the choice.
I'm glad I have a choice.
I wish you would have chosen differently, but then
again I have friends who are liberal and oppose
my views and they are still my friends.
Friend, my opinion is you did wrong.

To the scabs:

1. Do us all a favor (Mike's gotta be getting really tired of having to kick sense into you people...over and over and over again) and read the agreement before you post on this topic again. It is painfully obvious who's read it and who has their opinion handed to them by American Handgunner.
http://www.nraila.org/FactSheets.asp?FormMode=Detail&ID=31&1=View

2. Remove the cotton from your ears and put in your mouth while reading some previous, hopefully enlightening, discussions on this very subject! Here's just a couple of threads to get you started (don't read one without the other).

3. You are either part of the solution, or you are part of the problem. It's your choice. Everyone on board with this boycott wants a nice shiny new Smith, but guess what...they don't buy it. And they don't ask for anybody's sympathy or forgiveness, either.

Who cares. Buy what you want and don't look back.

This is the best advice? Please do some thinking before you post or agree with such shallow thinking.

"Who cares?" Well I do, and so do many other gun owners, a lot of them on this board. You may not care now, but ten years from now, when your rights and your children's rights have been severely curtailed by groups like S&W and HCI, you'll look back and think, "Maybe I should have done something." You know what? It'll be too late. Hindsight is always 20/20.

And obviously, Will Beararms cares enough to realize that he has "sinned" such that he should ask for forgiveness. I don't condone his purchase, but the apathy behind a statement like "Who cares" disgusts me even more.

"Buy what you want and don't look back?" Ah, this attitude regrettably sums up a lot of what our culture has become. Conspicuous consumption. Buying blindly in order to satisfy material desires. I'm saddened to see just how deeply blind consumption has become a part of our world.

"Buy what you want" suggests that we can somehow empty out elements like character, responsibility, citizenship and replace them with material goods. The better phrase might have been "Buy what you want and don't look forward." If you support S&W, you won't want to look forward. You won't like what you see.

Read the agreement.

..

Wow. I had never read the agreement before, I had just heard you guys speak of this evil thing. A few things I picked up just from a quick reading:
1. No 2" barrel snubnose revolvers
2. external safety required
3. new guns won't accept hi-cap mags
4. dealer won't sell hi-caps, period
5. dealer can't sell multiple firearms in one day to same person
(WTF)
6. all firearms are tracked via serial number

Yuck. Why didn't you guys tell me I should hate *&* ?

midnight,

Welcome to TFL. And welcome to a glimpse of the future if we support S&W and other companies get railroaded into similar agreements. It's a frightening picture, isn't it?

I have a S&W revolver bought before any of the litigation and agreement talk came about. It's a lovely piece of craftsmanship, and I'd love to own another. However, the line has been drawn in the sand, and I'm not about to step across it. Some people rationalize by thinking that S&W was a victim of the Clinton administration. But by signing that agreement, they were just as guilty of curtailing your rights as Clinton and Janet Reno ever were. Look at all the companies that refused to bow to similar legal threats. Look at how such legal pressures are now falling flat in states like CA and NY.

More than a victim of the Clinton Administration, it's likely that S&W was an active participant WITH the Clinton Administration in efforts to curtail the Constitutional rights of Americans.

While S&W was engaging in secret negotiations with the Clinton Administration over this agreement, they were participating in a series of round-table discussions with representatives of other firearms manufacturers on how best to RESIST just this sort of chicanery and present a united front against the harassment lawsuits that were being filed by cities across the nation.

While it can't be proven, it is very likely that S&W fed information from these round-table discussions to the Clinton Administration.

At the very least, S&W used this information to bolster its "negotiating position" with the Clinton Administration.

Some negotiations. S&W essentially gave up the farm and got absolutely nothing in return.

I got home too late; some of you beat me to the obvious: it appears somebodies didn't actually read the agreement.

But I read it, and for those of you who just can't be bothered with reading the agreement, here's a link to my thread with smaller bites:

http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=74614&highlight=disgusting

If the link doesn't work, search for "Most Disgusting Conditions in S&W Agreement."

This will whet your appetite in small doses for those folks with short attention spans, but to really comprehend the complete horror you need to read through the whole agreement on the NRA site.

Enlightenment is within your grasp. You can thank me later.

Read, learn; BE American!

As Wilford Brimley used to say; "It's the RIGHT thing to do!"

"Those who fail to learn from history, are doomed to repeat it."

When I read the original post to this thread a few days ago, I rolled my eyes and kept moving. The gosh, gee-whiz, heeyuck heeyuck tone was a little irritating, but I figured why beat the guy up. I want several models too. It's hard to say no every time.

The responses are typical to the subject matter discussed so often before. The fact that a few more gun owners will finally read the agreement is what makes this thread worth the effort.

That some guys refuse to read it, or have rationalized away the impact of it is frustrating. I don't know which argument ticks me off more. The "I want a Smith, who cares about your rights" position, or the "Why pick on Smith, Brand X is a big Poo-Poo Head too" camp.

Smith and Wesson has new owners. They are perfectly happy to live with the agreement, except for a few stipulations that will cost them money. The present administration is not enforcing the agreement. The next one may. Smith is choosing a course that in the future could seriously affect your ability to purchase a lot of firearms currently on the market.

They are hoping that time will make the stink wear off. They are counting on the fact that most people are selfish, self-centered individuals with selective memory that will settle for an ever decreasing selection of choices and freedoms.

Why would we support a company that shows such utter contempt for us? Let them slide into bankrupcy.

Just so everyone is aware, Smith and Wesson was just purchased by a pro-gun company in Arizona called "Safety Hammer", it is now American owned and operated. This information is in last months NRA magazines. The company is now looking into the legalities of going back on the agreement signed with the Clinton Administration. I think with Bush in office there would be NO repercussions if they go back on the agreement.

V.A. Cop,

That's great if it's really happening. However, until the agreement is gone the boycott has to be continued. I bought a post ban 629 V-Comp before actually reading it for myself and used just about every excuse I could muster to defend that purchase. However, after actually reading the agreement I felt like the biggest a$$ in the history of a$$es. I truly regret my purchase.

As mentioned above, the only thing that makes replying to these threads worth the effort is the fact that maybe one or more people will be prodded into reading the agreement and seeing what it consists of. I cannot for the life of me see how anyone could buy a new S&W after reading the agreement word for word and considering what it is, and what it could mean to our rights in the future.

I think it was a representative from Glock that put it best. To paraphrase, the agreement is more powerful than any current regulating agency is or ever should be. They back doored us with the agreement and it must die. Anything less than that just welcomes another back door attack by the government on our rights.

I want a new S&W 686 in a bad way but I WILL NOT knowingly or willingly send another penny to S&W until they have publically renounced their participation in the agreement.

Regards,
R6

To 38Mike.....I am truly sorry and feel about an inch tall right now........

For what it's worth, I lost my head on the Jew in Europe analogy having two uncles by marriage who are direct descendants of survivors of the holocaust and knowing how they are responsible for my appreciation, nay obsession with firearms and the Second Amendment.

I can't undo what I posted but I will try to erase that 38Mike, please forgive me.

Though the agreement is on paper, is anyone really following it? This thread could turn into something positive in that we could start an effort right now to contact Smith and ask them to rescend the HUD agreement. Would that not chap HCI?

Will,do the right thing with that "hot potato". Email me and we can arrange for you to dispose of it and get you back on the right track.I also am a recent convert after reading the full text.I encourage you to also sit down and read it word by word. From my understanding buying or recieving a "used/pre-agreement" pistol is ok, as "they" wont benefit from the sale. Join the ranks and send that "nasty" thing to me for proper disposal.

Will, I was only joking with ya.... ( I do live in a humble trailer, not much longer though). Actually, I cracked up when I saw the comment; no harm done my friend...:)

Wow. I had never read the agreement before, I had just heard you guys speak of this evil thing. A few things I picked up just from a quick reading:
I've read the agreement. Name a single dealer who is following it.

""Who cares?" Well I do, and so do many other gun owners, a lot of them on this board."

Like you or anyone else here should really mean anything to me? I wouldn't care if you dropped off the face of the world much less care about your opinion on the political correctness of a gun purchase.
