Sorry.

I had to check "No".

I saw a squirrel take six shots and keep jumping around in a tree.
(We counted the holes after it was shot down with a .22 rifle.)

Also grew up in a town with a lot of "beer joints".
.25 was the typical caliber used in bar fights.
Don't recall anyone being killed, but one guy was put in wheelchair for life after having one emptied into his torso.

But, it's like everything else:
If you carry one-
1. Use the best ammo you can find.
2. Practice with it and make sure you can hit what you aim at.
3. Make sure it's reliable.
4. Shoot for COM.

Sure, if I have a .357 Magnum, or better, in the other pocket...

Anthonyj- So people could bad-mouth it!
Seriously, the .25 is the smallest, reliable centerfire cartridge that is viable for self defense.

When the round, and the pistol, were developed, carrying a small hand-gun was done on a routine basis. Small revolvers were a bit larger during that time, and the new semi-auto would fit handily in the watch-pocket ot vest pocket of the day's garb. This meant that it was relatively quick to access.

If you've watched many older movies, you'll inevitably see the person with the gun rack the slide after pulling the weapon, often as the other people begin to move towards them. The same with those who use revolvers, they cock them to represent fatal intent. Some of that was Hollywood of the day, some of that was due to the preponderance of single-action weapons in use at the time.

In those days, small caliber wounds could prove fatal, as medicine wasn't quite as advanced. Even as late as the 1950s, surgical proceedures couldn't always find, nor repair, damage in many areas of the body. While that may not have stopped everyone, it darn sure figured in many people's reactions to the presentation of a firearm. :)

reminds me of that scene in Maltese Falcon where gentleman villian Sydney Greenstreet (Casper Gutman..or The Fatman) stealthfully produces that .25 while putting on his hat in the end as he "asks" for his $10,000 back from Bogart.

Yep. The Depression-Era Gangsters also favored the little Baby Colt in .25 ACP for a concealed weapon. Seems that they were willing to give up power for surprise. The OSS also issued the Baby Browning to it's agents during WWII.

Something Its Better Than Nothing,But I Dont Use Any Caliber Under 380 For Self Defense. If You Have A Pocket Gun Similar To The Other With Less Caliber,Choose The Higher. This Is My Choice,My Opinion.

yes...why not.

YES.
If I would carry 25ACP then I would practice with it. And if need be I would know how to use it as effectively as any other gun.

Answered yes to the OP poll.

That said, I normally carry a hot 10mm load with 200 grain penetrators.

Where I live for more than half of the year you are pretty much guaranteed multiple layers of thick clothing.

In fact I have carried a .25acp Beretta 950 BS. Favorite gun? No. Did I have a gun with me? Yes. Light recoil, lighter and smaller than a LCP, reliable, eight round mag, pretty darn accurate at close distances, and quick to do a mag dump with.

I normally consider a S&W snub nosed M60 to be my minimum; even then still prefer 10mm over my .45s for CC.

But if conditions warranted I would rather have that Beretta in my pocket than nothing. (And that was the original question.)

Voted yes; if it's what I had, I'm sure I would find it useful.

I have a Titan .25 that I've kept for 30 years or so because (luck of the draw, I know) it's been both reliable and reasonably accurate.

I've never carried it, however. I've always felt I had something better for that.

I have a good friend who has carried one for years. On two occasions, separated by several years, she produced it in time of need to good effect: In both cases the BGs fled the field.

Much better than a sharp stick in those particular cases and I'm arguing neither that you can count on that nor that there's not plenty of better alternatives. I'm trying to talk my friend into upgrading:).

Who was it that said (paraphrasing here):

If you want to carry a .25 auto fine, but be careful, because if you pull it out and you shoot someone with it... and he finds out about it... he might be pretty angry!

The .25 auto will punch a series of 1/4" holes very deep. Why wouldn't it be sufficient? The guys that "wouldn't carry a .25 because they might make someone mad with it" usually carry a knife as a backup. Ironic?

Anyone here want to be shot with a .25? I know I don't. Of course there are better and more effective calibers, but a .25 in someone's face is a pretty good deterent to whatever they were gonna do.....

i have been shot with a 25 one in the hip and one in the shin. i was at the wrong place wrong time as a kid. and yes i would carry a 25. trust me they get your atention!!
