Would you ever buy a firearm from a pawn shop?

YES!!! I have gotten a couple of really good buys over the years from a couple of pawn shops. One of the things I find is that some people will go out, buy a new gun and then turn it in without ever having broken in the gun all the way. If you shop around, you can get a pretty new gun for one heck of a reduced price. I saved over $100.00 on a Sig Sauer P-220 pistol in .45 acp a number of years ago. I still have that gun that I got for $450.00 and it remains reliable to this day.

A lot of the time the reason is for none other than "This poor horse is about dead" if that's the case the horse on this one is back from the grave.....lol

I do realize that my opinion like the mods is subjective.
 
You can find good deals at pawn shops if you do the work. If the price is too high, then you can try to bargain and if that does not work turn away from it. The other thing also is not all pawn shops are the same. Visit each one and check out their customer service and build a relationship with the ones that give you the best service. It's amazing how much better some of the deals are when you have that.

One of the strongest tactics is the "walk away." You have to be willing to leave it on the table, otherwise the seller will have all of the control. I have never bought a gun this way, but I have done it with car purchases. I got the dealer to come down from $14K to $9K on the truck I just bought because I walked out when he told me he couldn't come lower than $10K. I was getting into my car to leave when the manager ran out the door yelling "what if I can come down to $9K?"
Of course cars and guns are different animals, but the principles of haggling are fairly universal. Walking away may not always work, but it keeps you from getting hosed more often than not.
 
The thing I like about Pawn Shops, is that you can find Rifles you just cant seem to find anywhere else, to me alot more interesting than modern production guns on a rack.

I like that! It's very profound. I notice in the Pawn shops that the beaters are often priced at the same price that they can buy a brand new one with.
 
when it comes to pawn shops, it's hit or miss to be honest. I personally would never buy one from a pawn shop but thats just because all my rifles are made custom the way i like them. pistols and shotguns its all about what you are comfortable with. Depending on where you live, a lot of pawn shops that carry weapons also have indoor ranges.
 
I go to pawn shops a LOT. Ill walk in and ask the guy oldie the cruddiest gun he's got, buy it cheapish, and take it home to fix up so I can sell em for a little extra $$. I've gotten some good deals at pawn shops before too. I also have a deal with the guy at the local shop. I fixed his broken guns for a cut of the difference he could sell it for in functional condition.

So, you're saying the pawn shops price the ones in good condition lower than the ones that are beaters?

Because I've never seen a pawn shop gun that was:

a) in good condition

-and-

b) less than 90% the price of a new one

Maybe the pawn shops in your area sell decent guns at a reasonable price, then send the junky overpriced cast-offs to Texas. ;)
 
I bought my ruger single six for 275.00 with mag and reg cylinder from a pawn shop. No, the gun wasn't mint but in nice shape. It shoots great. Generally yes, my local shops are very expensive also, but deals are meant to be found.
