Would you ever buy a firearm from a pawn shop?

To this day I have never bought a new gun... 75% pawnshops and 25% deals ftf with sellers. The trick is to go in and know what you're talking about. Try to get the person that looks like the sucker in the shop and go for broke. The pawn shop owner caught on to my trick and that's how i got my current job as the guy behind the gun counter. They pay me to talk about and and clean firearms all day!

Probably not, just because pawn shops seem really shady to me. Thinking of buying a gun in a pawn shop reminds me of the opening scenes of "Payback" (great montage in a good movie by the way). The one time I tried to do it, the shopkeeper gave me a shifty look and said "Naw man, we don't carry guns here. But... head on down to the depot on 38th and I'll fix you up somethin reallll nice." I decided not to find out what he meant by "the depot" and beat feet outta there.

Yeah, the worst part to me is not about the quality of gun I might get there, it's about having my address flashed to the character behind the counter when I show my permit and license... and who he might share that address with.

I buy most of my used firearms at the pawn shop about two blocks from my office, a little store that always treated me right. Imagine my amusement one day when I went in there and they were filming a pilot for a new program for the History Channel. Yeah, Cajun Pawn Stars is my gun shop; I've bought a dozen or more from him over the years.

I can't figure out the angle: Why Deramus wanted to do the show, but every so often I'll walk in there and they'll be filming a new episode. What is really interesting to me is that it hasn't seem to change the way I do business in the shop. We still argue about guns and dicker about price. No one in a pawn shop pays the sticker price. That's just to start the negotiations.

do you trust the hackers more than the cashier at a pawn shop ?

Yeah, I hear ya' TX... It's all a matter of degree... geography, organization, etc... There may come a time when a lot of us won't be on here either...

i bought a savage 93r17 rifle at a pawn shop and didn't even know it was used, I thought it was new because it still had the red sticker on the stock. Anyway I took it and glass bed the rifle and had a custom trigger put in it and it shoots very nice now.

It would depend for me what firearm is was. I know enough about the AR family to know what to look for (condition of the feed ramps, staked gas key, chrome-lined vs. stainless steel barrels, etc) and weigh the features vs. the price. Other firearms, I'm not quite as knowledgeable, so I would try to bring a friend with me to look at it.

I wouldn't be opposed to buying from a pawn shop, but I haven't had the need to. There are a few LGS's around me are legit places with good people working there, I go to them first. The majority of the time they have what I'm looking for.

Why would the pawnbroker be any more or any less likely to share your address with someone than the guy in sporting goods at Walmart or the clerk at a gun store?

Yeah, I know what you mean. Every time I go to New York City, I feel like Godzilla will attack at any moment.

Not this pawn shop,,,

I went into a pawn shop I've been driving by for years,,,
It's in a small town on the way to my Brother's home.

I saw a nice older Springfield .22 bolt action rifle,,,
I asked him about the gun and he said it worked perfectly.

I then asked him if he had test fired the rifle,,,
He said no but the seller told him it worked.

I asked him if I could return it if the gun proved to be a dud,,,
He said "Nope. All sales are final."

I politely thanked him for showing me the gun,,,
And left his store.

I only deal with certain gunstores whose personnel I feel I can trust. If there was a particular pawnbroker I knew something about and I had a feeling of trust regarding him/her... That would be OK... i.e.: I don't have a particular grudge about pawnbrokers but I am a little wary of them in general.

Around where I live, I haven't come across a pawnbroker that feels particularly trustworthy to me. This is not a problem for me.

Of course I would.

If I ever found a good bargain.

Problem is, every firearm I've looked at in pawn shops has been a rusty beat-up piece of junk that was priced at 90% the cost of a brand new example of the exact same model. Maybe there are pawn shops somewhere that offer decent firearms at reasonable prices, but I've never seen one. ;)

Pats Pawn & Gun are about the nicest folks I've ever dealt with. All my best guns have been pawn shop purchases. Now musical instruments and pawn shops... Thats another story altogether.

I bought my SR1911 at Dad's Super Pawn! One of the biggest gunstores in MS. Yeah, these guys are good guys. The night before they put on a steak dinner and open bar for their loyal customers. Don't know how I got the invite but hey free food and drinks. Definitely I would buy from them again.

Hey Big Shrek....The Remington lever 22 you posted up is a 22 Winchester mdl 250. They shot resonably well. :D

Naw, you are just moving too slow. That just means somebody else has already snarfed up the bargains.
