Worst Kick Ever Felt!!!!

I've shot a double rifle in .45-300. 600grs. That was a big recoil, but not unpleasant. You shoot it offhand, so you can stagger backwards some.

Nastiest thing I've shot was a 700BDL in 338 winmag.

My buddies 7 mag kicked lots harder than a 12 guage with buckshot. He had a brake installed and now it kicks less than our 308s..........

I have never been able to figure out why, but the 12ga shotguns that we trained with in the navy are the most unpleasant, painful things I have ever shot. Not sure what we were using for ammo, but I watched one of the females literally end up on her ass. I would shoot my uncles .338 Win Mag off the bench any day of the week before playing with those shotguns again.

The worst I've ever had, as far as actual physical damage, was a .357 scandium-framed Smith with the titanium cylinder. My right hand didn't work after 25 rounds. The most jarring, nose bleeding kick was probably my H&R .45-70 with hot loads.

Large caliber black powder gun loaded WAY hot, shot it as a teenager. Don't even remember the caliber, but it was much nastier than anything else before or since.

Just for fun, I looked up elephant rounds. I have never shot this but I thought I'd post it for kicks:D I cannot even imagine the kick it would have, but I bet you would feel it for a while:eek:

Hardest kicking was probably a Remington XP-100 single shot silhouette handgun with 15" barrel chambered for the full length .458 Win Mag. It wasn't too bad with the 350 gr cast bullets, but the 500 gr really torqued your elbow into the ground. I fired it creedmor, and the gun went more than vertical. The hardest kicking rifle was my Winchester Model 70 lightweight carbine in 30-06 with Leupold 2-7 scope when I substituted a friends ramline stock sans recoil pad. My shoulder hurt for weeks and still is a little sensitive, 20 years later. I don't really relish shooting the hard kickers. My son's new Ruger Hawkeye .338 Federal isn't bad at all, and probably is as much as I want. I like my .270 WSM as it isn't bad either, even with max loaded 150 gr bullets.

So far the worst kick has come from a H&R single shot 12 ga. shooting slugs. It didn't have a recoil pad or anything on it. Not fun...

I had an off brand, very light 12ga single shot; same story, it was painful even with standard loads. With heavy pheasant loads, forget it. It ripped your head back so hard you lost sight of what you were shooting at. I literally feared a detached retina from it... and it shot really low.

The runner up was a first generation Mossy 835 with a hard rubber, stock recoil pad shooting 2.25oz lead turkey loads. I was nearly knocked down both times I shot it and that was back in my bodybuilder days.

Enfield Snider Carbine in 577/450 ... it wasn't bad perse' ... but it was the strongest kick from any gun I have felt to date. I managed to get the shot in the bull ring at 100 yards from the off hand and boy was it fun - not my rifle however. made me want one though. :)

Kick is a subjective thing. Stock fit can be very important, because if a big gun doesn't fit you it seems to kick much harder.
Recoil is a mathematical formula, but "kick" varies from man to man with the same rifle. Recoil is what the gun does; "kick" is how it feels.

I am on the 2nd barrel in my 375H&H. Yup, I shot the throat out of the 1st one. I shot that rifle a LOT in my younger years, and I still would if not for the cost of the bullets these days.

I don't think my 375 kicks hard at all. (Obviously, or I would not have shot it about 14,000 rounds)
Now what KICKS is a 4 bore with a heavy powder charge. Here is one I made, being shot with a light charge.

I have also made two 2 bore rifles and I refused to fire them. If velocity is equal, when you double the projectile weight you quadruple the recoil.

Here are pics of the 1st 2 bore rifle I made.

These three pics above were taken before the rifle was finished.

Here are a few after the gun was finished, engraved and checkered.

I was talking to a man telling me about his 460 Weatherby a few years ago. He was shocked when I told him I was making. A rifle that I could load ---- using the barrel from his 460 as a ram-rod.
He though I was kidding until I showed him. That statement was literally true.

When I was a 10 yr old boy my ass for an uncle and cynically crazed fruit of a Grand Father who I loved dearly gave me a 10 ga. shot gun to shoot at squirrels. Needless to say that was the worse beast I have ever had the pleasure of getting the snot and breathe kicked out of me.

I was hoping you'd chime in, Wyosmith. ;) 'Sides, I wanted to see some more pics of the finished product. Lovely, just as I figured.;)

Any of you guys wanna pull the trigger on a half-pounder?

That's true only if the 2 bore rifle weighs exactly the same as the 4 bore rifle. If you double the projectile weight in a rifle that is twice as heavy, you merely double the recoil energy, assuming equal muzzle velocities.

I really haven't ever shot anything that really put a stinging on me??
Grew up bird hunting shooting lots of shotguns since I was 7 or 8 and started deer hunting with a 06' at 10 or 11 years old??
I regularly shoot my 7mm rem mag from various shooting positions including off the bench w/o any discomfort, the largest boomers i've shot is a 300 WM and Dads 10 gauge on geese no problems with either.

The worst I have ever felt is from my benelli nova 3 1/2 w/o the comfortech stock. I fully believe the "butt pad" was made from left over tractor tires. Shooting a full magnum turkey load with a full choke sitting down indian style will literally roll you over. I made the mistake of hunting my first season hunting with it leaning against a tree. NEVER AGAIN!!!! My worst pistol was a cheap rossi snub nose .357 mag, lol my friend was standing beside me and screamed "That made my teeth hurt!" Worst rifle would have to be the .300 weatherby. It did have a bite to it, but the stock really helped. My friend got one for arkansas deer, we dont see very many monsters around here so I thought it was way over the top, meat wasted. Ironicly all of these "big guns" excluding the rossi were hell to shoot but I never felt a thing when the game was in the line of sight.

I've not found a gun that has bested me. Sure after 20 or 30 rounds, but so far nothing has got to me after a shot or two. My Ruger No. 1 in 45-70 has a hard recoil but isn't bad. The biggest I've spent a lot of trigger time on is my friends Ruger No. 1 in .375 H&H. It has some recoil, don't get me wrong, but I don't consider it brutal by any stretch.

I guess, I'm just going to have to buy that .416 Rigby that. I've had my eye on.
