Why no NRA?

Same here

I joined the NRA in 1999 (partly due to the upcoming presidential election) even though I didn't and still do not own a gun (I'm working on it) because I support the cause. Unfortunately, the 20 additional mailers I got that year asking for more money got REALLY annoying, REALLY FAST.

Maybe I'll join again now that I know I can call turn off most of the mailings.

The NRA is the best ally and tool that I have to deter the enemy in Washington and elsewhere who wan't to make sheep like zombies of me and you. I will remain an NRA proponent until my last breath.

HR 5013 (109th) 2005-2006

"HR 5013(109th) Bill status, Final status: Passed House 99% Republican supporting, 50% Democrats opposing. This Bill was proposed in previous sesson of Congress. Sessons of Congress last two years, and at the end of each session all proposed bills and resolutions that havent passed are cleared from the books. This bill never became law." Where's the victory?

Well, I guess the point I was making was to counter your rant that the NRA does nothing. It cost time and money to lobby Congress on behalf of HR 5013. The NRA was spending money collected in the form of dues on this effort. It passed in the House.

I remember being a member when I was 14 - in the 80's, maybe it was the NRA heyday, or they just got their super-duper copier and printers, but the sheer volume of spam mailed to me was incredible. Notify your Congress of this! and that! Look over here! Look over there! I was like.. yeah Im 14. I just don't want that amount of crap in my mailbox sorry. Yeah Im going to flamed for saying "crap".. I can take it. :barf:

"I just don't want that amount of crap in my mailbox sorry. "

Good point. It's *so* annoying to have to sort through your mail, throwing out the junk and keeping the good stuff. Junk mail has reduced the quality of my life to nearly zero. If the NRA didn't mail me a piece of junk mail every month, I'd be happy and healthy.

I'm the first to admit that the NRA sells scare tactics just like the anti gun Sarah Brady crowd sells scare tactics. With that said, I do believe that the NRA is working to keep our right to bare arms but I refused to lower myself to supporting "scare" tactics of the NRA.

Last week, after reading Sarah Brady's military caliber blog on myspace, I joined the NRA. That was the biggest load of crap I've ever seen. What scared me was the fact that lots of people read that and took it as gospel. If you haven't read the piece, I suggest you track it down. Do a search on TFL and you'll find it.

Anyway, I call it global dimming but nobody forms their own opinion any more. If Sarah Brady can sell her opinion I figured I better sell mine so I joined the NRA. I plan on rejoining the NRA every year for the rest of my life.

I form my own opinions and I'll damn well keep my firearms.

Freedom is the right to question and change the established way of doing things. It is the continuous revolution of the marketplace. It is the understanding that allows to recognize shortcomings and seek solutions.

R. Reagan.

There are many pro-gun groups and not just one NRA. Perhaps if more people signed up for GOA and JPFO the NRA would have to compete for their memberships and adjust it's compromising ways.

fairview mick, I have to agree with you 100% on this subject and if anyone thinks you are just blowing smoke check out HR1022, this makes the Clinton Gun Ban look like childs play.
