Who will check Bush's alleged abuses of power, and what of the future?

Um, how accurate is the statement that we are detaining American Citizens with no charge and no trial? Are they deemed enemy combatants or what? Just wondering.

Adding:
Torture? Are you serious? Torture? Please expound for a poor ignorant soul

One more edit:
Who is the "American Prospect"? And why is CBS publishing their editorials?

This is from their website.

The American Prospect was founded in 1990 as an authoritative magazine of liberal ideas, committed to a just society, an enriched democracy, and effective liberal politics. Robert Kuttner, Robert Reich, and Paul Starr launched the magazine initially as a quarterly.

Robert Reich was labor secretary during Bill Clinton's first term in office.

You don't consider what was done at Abu Ghraib torture? What do you consider torture?

Rest assured George W will not pay for his mistakes. We (Americans) are paying and will pay for these mistakes for decades to come.

After all, we voted him into office twice (well, almost twice).

Yeah, Robert Reich, he's the ticket...yeah, right! Oh, could that possibly be the same CBS News of Dan Rather infamy?

Lordy, I'm no Bush Fan. But I'm getting real tired of these, "Let's attack Bush for anything and everything we ever perceived to be wrong," threads.

Get over it already. It's been 6 years and some of you are still harping on something that was narrowly decided way back when. Bush won the election then, he won it again in 2004. Move on already, for pete's sake!

Thanks to the others who answered this accusation. I wouldn't have been so kind.

Short of Bush trying to cancel the elections (fat chance), the only thing we need to be worried about is who will be the next in the oval office.

For those of you that are on the left side of the aisle, Hillary Clinton will be a disaster for gunnies and our rights... Who has a better chance than her on either side of the aisle? The elections of 2008 will be here faster than you think.

There's not a lot . . . . . . . . .

. . . . . of difference in the ultimate aim of any political party . It is not a bad idea to go buy all the ammo you can carry, in easily transportable amounts, and be ready to use it if necessary, and be willing to trade/barter some. I shoot .45 and .762x39, but I hoard .308, 9mm and 22LR. So, if Washington turns out to be user-friendly after all, I still have a swappable commodity. I'm not saying Hillary can't be trusted, but she does have a track record, and says what she really means. "I loath guns, I despise the military." Remember Mein Kampf? Same principles.

No.

This is the last time I am posting on one of these bomb thrower threads.

There are a few members who post wacko stories without any commentary or explaination, then never post in the body of the thread. I am all for conversation, but some members are just flame throwers.

I learned a long time ago, "You should never play another mans game".;)

Who will check Bush's alleged abuses of power?
The media. Those that are against him, and those that are for him. Have you heard what Hannity, Savage and others are saying about port-gate?

And what of the future?
Its in our hands. In less than 3 years, we'll have another President. That's the way our country runs.

Not to worry about Bush. Although it's not official, I think, with the latest round of screw-ups, he's become "lame duck" for the next two years. He'll travel a lot and make lots of speeches.

The real problem is who among the idiots around him will mind the store in the interim.

Bob

George W. Bush's presidency is another era of overreaction at the expense of constitutional rights

Yep - nothing like a little "over-reaction" after 3000 Americans get murdered, and some scum bag terrorist organization declares and enacts war on us to bring out the libs. I guess it is better if we had alot of "inaction" from our CIC, just like from those who proceeded him.

What bull...

There are those fools that will give away our country and way of life in the name of liberalism. We do not behead people on videos, we do not take newswomen as hostage and barter their lives to set free suspected assasins and those that help. If those of you that are so liberal think we as a country are so wrong in holding suspected terrorists, PLEASE take the time to watch the beheadings ( slowly sawing a mans head off while he is alive and can feel it happening) and then tell me who are the animals. We are a long way from a perfect world and butt kissing isn't going to make it happen. There has been some wrong doing by our troops, but the vast majority are doing their jobs the best they can. This is almost like Viet Nam again,, calling our military men and women something less than honerable. It sickens me at times. I am not one that shouts "My Country, right or wrong" but I do support what we are doing and how we are doing it. We have strived to keep collateral damage to a minimum, we have not targeted civilians. Are some of you actually so stupid as to think war is fun and games for the participants. Do you really expect information from suspects by quietly asking them to tell us what they know. Are you brain dead?? Have you lived a sheltered, peaceful life so long you are oblivious as to what it takes at times?? I really don't think "humiliation' is torture in the sense you say. FDor crying out loud, how many more 9-11 do you want before you wake up to what is happening..Sheeeesh

Like a lot of those here I get tired of flamethrower posts. I also get EXTREMELY tired of the canned rhetoric of both the anti-bush and the bush-lovers.

If you can't say something original just please shut up.

Bush will never have to fess up for the crap he's done. Just like Klinton and all the others before him didn't have to. That doesn't mean the crap doesn't exist. It does mean that those skilled in turning crap into fertilizer will profit.

It's still crap and we're knee deep in it.

I have said before and will again, that in spite of all the "Hate Bush" rhetoric, GWB is one of the best presidents in my lifetime, and I was alive when FDR died. I remember HT well, and prefer GWB.

I think that liberals do not care what he does, they want power and are determined to get it even with lies, and traitorous actions.
Many others are so young that they have not gotten dry behind the ears, and think that there are no restrictions on Constitutional rights. It just is not so.

GWB has the interest of the nation at heart, and does not respond to poll numbers. Instead he continues to pursue the war on terror, and is winning.

You need not tell me that I don't care about liberty. I spent aa total of 28 years in the military, of which 22 were active, and I have been willing to put my life on the line for it. If we have a few more 9/11s one might have some reason to criticize GWB, but we have not, and it is due to the diligence of this administration.

cbs article

The article " that according the constitution, treaties are the law of the land", Wrong!
The Constitution implicitly says that no treaty shall be made that violates the Constitution. Gatt, NAFTA, FTAA, and numerous laws do that. The Port trade does that. Many of the things this and past administrations have done falls in that category. It is the job of congress to stop these things from happening, but they haven't. Now it falls upon the citizens to do this. For every action there is an opposite reaction, and it's growing. Faith, courage, and God will stop this mess. Because we only have pea shooters . The only thing we have to fear is fear itself, not the people that make it.

buckster, if you're going to make the claim that these treaties violate the constitution, please tell us uneducated folks in what manner they violate it. I'm particularly interested in how allowing a corporation from a foreign country run a business in the US is at odds with the constitution.
