Who carries more than one?

I will carry two 45 acp. when I am driving from MICHIGAN to my bro.in tenn. One is next to my leg in a car holster

I think two tends to veer into paranoia for the non-LEO, non-security, non-"operator" individual.

That said, I hate to cast any insult at my fellow carriers, and realize that to many carrying a single gun makes ME seem paranoid.

For me, it's far too big of a hassle, and feels a touch mall ninja.

One exception is when I'm traveling, in which case I keep a full-size double-stack gun starting with a .4 caliber (my PX4, basically, and any future full-size combat .40s or .45s I get), and I carry a more svelte .380 (or 9 or .38 as I acquire them) when I leave the car.

I would carry two because, for one, I like guns, and two, I like revolvers as well as pistols, so why not? It's a free country, so why not exercise that freedom? Plus, you never know what can happen!

I carry a S&W J-Frame in my right front pocket. I carry a S&W 3913 in a leather pouch on my left hip (cross draw access). I can access the 3913 a lot faster than I can reload the J-Frame and do it without taking my eyes off target.

"gun nut"

grumpybutt has not made any friends yet

LOL, hey no kidding---wonder why.:D

I carry a spare 642 most every where I go. It stays with me in a vest pocket (or pants) if, say, I have a DR's appointment and need to lock my primary gun in the car.

I have the option to arm another person if I feel it's appropriate.

On a cold winter day when I'm bundled up and don't have easy access to my primary, it goes in my coat pocket---where my hand is--and nobody has a clue.

When driving, it's wedged between passenger seat and console for quick access.

That makes me a gun nut?

And that's before I even mention carrying two spare magazines and speedloader. Hey, geezers are entitled to get paranoid (or maybe it's smarter) as they get older.:D

Haha, one of the things I'm most grateful for is that I got my dad's "geezer" gene. We might disagree on occasion on beer, food, women, not so much anymore on politics, television, sports teams, etc, but I know that whenever I head out to the boonies with him to run the dogs, he won't blink twice at my hip-holstered Beretta, because he always has a Colt Python .357 tucked somewhere and a Colt Detective Special .38 tucked somewhere else.

I will occasionally carry a .357 LCR on the ankle to supplement my primary 9mm P99. I occasionally do that for three reasons:
  • It's a lot easier to get to my ankle gun while seated (car and so on)
  • I have the option to visibly put away the main pistol and still be armed
  • Because I can

A BUG is a really good idea and highly recommended--I need to practice this philosophy more frequently than I currently do.

Sometimes. I'll carry a Kahr CW9 IWB and a LCP in cargo pockets or jacket pocket. When I carry my FNP-40 thats when I only carry one with a spare mag. I'm very confident in the FNP and am not concerned with it failing. I know it can happen but if I wasnt 100% it wouldnt be a carry piece. With all the riots going on and flash mob crap I'll start carrying s BUG with the FNP.

Always Two

I always carry a Sig P238 or my Colt Cobra revolver in my right front pocket. If something looks suspicious, but I don't want to overreact, I can just walk with my hand in my pocket and thus have quick and easy access while walking in and out of gas stations, through a parking lot, whatever.

I also always carry something with a little more firepower IWB, cross-draw, because it's difficult to access my pocket pistol while sitting down (such as while driving, or at my desk, or in a restaurant).

This is my standard dress, whether home or away.

It has never made sense to me when people say they carry two, or they carry something bigger, only if they "feel the need". The "need" can come up any time, any place. I live in the quiet suburbs, yet I have had bad guys on my back porch, trying to get in, while I was home. This is an experience that will change how you think about such things.

And finally, any incident that actually requires you to defend yourself or others, might just as easily be a situation where a backup is needed. Your primary could jam, you could drop it in a tussle with the bad guy(s), or who knows what. Carrying a backup is just as reasonable as carrying a higher capacity pistol instead of a lower capacity one.

Of these

Seems like overkill (no pun intended) for most civilians. A little common sense will keep most of us out of harm's way, but for those whose jobs take them to the dark side, it might be necessary, but begs the question, how do you become proficient in deploying the back up? If I were that concerned with the environment, I'd be carrying a shotgun.

The reason for the back up is what? Your primary gun goes down...should have carried a 100% reliable piece. Or, the BG grabs your primary...how are you really going to deploy the back up? Either are unlikely,,,about like being hit by lightning.

I carry and sp101 in a crossbreed and an LCP in my pocket. I want to get an ankle holster for the sp101 so I can carry my SR40 in a crossbreed. When I get my S&W 500 I plan on carrying it in a shoulder holster. Why? I don't carry reloads, an lcp is easier to carry than a speedloader IMO, and it makes me feel pretty cool packin more steel than Pittsburg.

I carry two, and I train with two. I have a S&W M&P 9mm that I carry strongside, and a M&P 9 compact that I carry in a concealment undershirt with an elastic pocket and strap under the left arm.

I carry two because (a) It gives me peace of mind. I have an irrational fear of being disarmed and executed. (b)There are certain friends I have who feel uncomfortable around guns. When I go in their homes, I stowe the primary in my glove box. They think I'm unarmed, but I'm not. As long as they can see the empty holster, they're happy (c)Hey, it's a matched pair!!

I also train for combat with both. I run drills where I present and fire with my primary, and then holster and present and fire with the BUG. All my drills incorporate the BUG.

Brasscatcher84,

I don't think it's irrational at all as it happens all too frequently even to LEO's. A very credible argument can be made that a BUG is an absolute necessity. That being said, there are those that carry nothing at all so it's obviously a personal choice.

I carry at least two guns...

they're connected to my shoulders!!!! Ohhh!

Surprised no one said it first. Come on guys, step it up! :D jk

I technically have the ability to, but with my present gear and habits it would be 1 in the right pocket and 1 appendix style right side. I'd start to have a funny looking slouch after not too long. No ankle holster or belly band yet.

A firearms instructor I knew did though and it was in a belly band in addition to OWB. I didn't even know until he showed us.
