Cocked & locked 1911 all the way. I'm 33 and have preferred the 1911 since I've been old enough to own one myself.

I'm 33 and yes I carry cocked/locked during fall/winter time with 8+1 Speer 185gr GDHP in my Custom Springfield 1911 Govt.
(during Spring/Summer Glock 26 pulls duty Corbon 115gr JHP +P rounds)

With that Springfield-Armory 1911 there's just something special about 38+ ounces of serious firepower riding on your hip!! :)

34, own 3 1911's, and carry this Caspian Officer's ACP on my CCW permit.

28, a Kimber compact, cocked and locked, pretty much for the same simple reasons. but sometimes I switch when I think another one of my guns is feeling jeleous.

SA Loaded stainless, C&L, Everyday.

I'm 25.

Didn't realize there where so many folks here in their 20's. I thought that I was one of the youngest here, but apparently I'm not alone. Especially surprised by some of you guys. From the amount of knowledge in your posts I was under the impression that you had been around for a long time. :)

I'm 46. In the past I've carried .38s, .357s and 9mms because the law listed only certian firearms as acceptable for CCW. I never felt undergunned with any of them. But when the state CCW law was changed in 1996 to say you could carry whatever you wanted, The pre-70 series lightweight commander came out of the safe and has pretty much been my daily companion since. Why? Because it works!

I second that I thought most of the people on this site were older thats why I asked about age. I thought George Hill was probable and Old Fart I guess not. The way people answer questions on here makes them sound like a old men. I guess I give me age away with my Screan Name LOL! I Still bring Megatron to the Pistol range with my other guns George!

Born after the domestication of fire and the development of the wheel.
Primary carry gun is a LW Commander in 45ACP. Properly carried cocked and locked.
Secondary gun is a S&W revolver in .357 Magnum.
I also don't feel properly dressed without a belt, a tie and a hat.

Older n everybody so far. Carried 1911 as part of the job for many years and quite comfortable with it. Have owned well over a dozen makes of autoloaders and just a few makes of wheelguns.

For defensive carry, I prefer nasty wheelguns.

Sam....my favorite 9mm is the 9X32R

My first pistol was a Glock 21. I thought I was the MAN. I did really well at the local IPSC matches. Then, one fine day, I decided to take the plunge and buy a 1911 just to see what all the fuss was about. I now own three, with another one coming along soon. Daily carry when I do not have to go to work (those pesky metal detectors) is a Kimber stainless classic. I am 26. :)

26 y/o, carry a Colt Defender cocked and locked for the past 3 years. The ONLY way to carry a 1911.

My Colt .45... Better to have and not need, than to need and not have.

At 57 years of age I carry a Kimber Custom Combat Carry Model with stainless melted slide and night sights. I have been carrying a 19ll since Vietnam and it is a very fine choice in a CCW weapon. In the last few years I have been carrying a Glock 21 as a LEO and it too is a fine weapon, especially with 14 rounds of 45cp. But for off duty use when the dress code is appropriate I carry the Kimber, if not then a Kel-Tec P-32 which is 6.6 ounces of reliable 8 shots of .32acp. Darned fine little gun too.

I'm 23, a chip off the old block my pops used to carry 1911's religiously, it's almost tradition.
Here's my collection:

1991a1 Commander
70's Series Gold Cup
Colt CCO
In the works:
Colt 70's series Competition slide on a wilson combat frame.

FWIW I also carry Glocks & Sigs, damn good guns.

I'm 45, and I was introduced to the 1911 in 1975. I was 19 at the time, and it didn't take but about 2 or three magazines through it to realize I had found "my" gun. I've tried carrying various stuff such as snubbies, 4" medium frame revolvers, 6" large frames revolvers, and small to medium frame autos, but I always comes back to the 1911. In my life, I find that about the only time I can't get away with carrying a GM, I can get away with a J frame or its equivalent.
My next gun? A Kimber Compact AL SS. Then maybe I won't have to go with a snubby. :)

Hey, Sodapop! I'm 66, got arthritis in my shoulders, and am quite happy with my 1911s. My pet social gun is a LW Commander.

As far as I'm concerned, the relatively low recoil makes it pleasant to shoot.

Fits my hand better than most other stuff...

Those Commander pistols sure seem to be popular. I don't think anyone could ever pry a 1911 out of my hands. My hands just don't let go of it.
