I'm curious to know what age some of you 1911 guys are. I'm 25 and I never owned a handgun until about a year ago although I have a lot of experience shooting handguns. My first gun The Mighty 1911. I had some reservations a few months ago about carrying it because I felt uncomfortable carrying cocked and locked. I don't anymore I am comfortable with it now. My Colt .45 is my primary handgun. The two reasons are
1. It fits my hand
2. I like bigger bullets
I Tend to notice most of my friends and younger guys carrying are carrying .380's and 9mm's. I'm curious to know how old some of you 1911 guys are and if age has anything to do with the 9mm Vs. 45acp debate?

22, I handled and shot all sorts of handguns. The 1911 just "felt right". If I were allowed to carry I would want a Glock, preferably in 26 or 27 form.

Owning a 1911 is like owning a Harley. Some guys just like Hondas I guess ;}

I'm in my later 30's and I have been carrying various 1911 for over 10 years. Currently my carry gun is a Kimber Ultra Carry in 45ACP.

I am 33. Geez, who knew I would last this long? I own over 20 handguns with examples of most major types of actions and calibers. What rides my hip is a C&L Wilson Lightweight Protector. When my Tactical Elite is delivered, I'm pretty sure it will be carried as well on occasion when I am feeling strong enough, it's a heavy sucker.

Just about every day since the mid '60's, the only time I did not carry a C&L 1911 is when I carried my department issued ?&? M-66. I'm 58.

I am 64 and I carry a Colt LW Commander, cocked,locked and hydra-shocked. (Or an FEG Hi-Power)
None of those triple action girly gadget-guns for this old geezer.

You have to be there when it's all over. Otherwise you can't say "I told you so."

Better days to be,

I'm 26 and carry either a Wilson CQB or Les Baer Concept III. I'm getting another Les Baer next week and will convert that to my new carry gun. The Concept III will be turned into another bullseye pistol.

49. Carry Kimber Ultra Elite or Colt CCO always c&l'ed. Various backups including P-32, Colt gov't .380 and 1903 in .32, along with Chris Reeves Sabenza. Am working with a Glock G-36, but still do not shoot it as well as 1911 and has fewer rounds. Holds up better in the heat and humidity of south Texas, but I do not have as much confidence in my ability to employ it as I do my 1911's.

57. I've carried one or another 1911 pattern in condition 1 off and on since the early 70s. For some years when I needed to be fairly discrete I favored a Beretta 84 with the high cap mags. Now that the market has moved on and guns are available like the Kimber Ultra, which is almost the same size as the Beretta, I carry the 84 less and less. Now my really, really discrete gun is a S&W Bodyguard. Which isn't a great deal smaller than the Kimber Ultra - but is is a bit lighter and fits in and out of a pocket much better.

Don't know that age necessarily has anything to do with the .45/9mm preference. I have a good friend who is within 2 weeks of my age and he favors a Browning HP 9mm - though he has weakened in favor of a LW Commander in .45 on occassion. An acquaintance of mine who is in his early 70s favors a Beretta 92.

My father's "keep it handy around the house" gun is a Colt "Thunderer" in .41 long.

I've carried a lot of pistols in different calibers. .45 is very comfortable for me, and I know I can totally rely on it.
How old am I? Old enough to remember watching All in the Family when it was new, and young enough to have played with a Verti-Bird, and Transformers (back when Megatron turned into a big pistol). Age has nothing to do with it... Training, Experience, and keeping your damned finger off the trigger.

Hey guys I am 22 and as you now a 1911 fan for life. I have had a 1911 since i was 16,so it's all about common sense and gun saftey. NEVER PLACE YOUR FINGER ON THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOU ARE ON TARGET! At any other time your finger has no business on the trigger. Stay safe guys.
Thanks,45automan
