If I had it to do over, I would buy the same first gun, but I would not have sold it. I wish I could have that gun back. It was a Smith and Wesson 6 inch model 586 .357 Magnum. That was a good gun, and I have missed it terribly.
If you only wanted one gun, then buy the best.
My first SAA was a Turnbull 45 Colt 5 1/2". Wish i hadnt bought it first. Now evrything else sucks!
Imagine if your first poistol was a Ed Brown or Wilson. All else would look like junk.
Start with the mid level stuff, and then work up so you can appreciate it.
I'm happy my PPK/S was my first handgun. I got it for half price from my dad - who had bought it as a Y2K gun. It looks great, is fun to shoot and carry.
On the one hand, I did buy the gun I wanted to buy first. A Sig P226. Still love it.
Given the state of affairs, I WAS looking at a Colt Delta Elite back ion the day. I now wished I'd picked one up, maybe not first, but sooner as they are no longer available in CA.
It was between those two back when I was not yet 21 and was trying to decide what to buy.
I am happy with my XD as of right now. I have less than 1000 rounds in it but I like everything about it. When I get my 1911 for xmas I will be extremely happy though. I will probably push for a complete ar lower as well.
My 1st Handgun was a Ruger BlackHawk 357 mag 4 5/8" tube(1972). I learned a whole lot with that gun. I learned to reload and shoot. I shot my 1st Deer with a hand gun with that old revolver. I wish I still had it. It got stolen from my truck in WA when I was stationed there in the early 80's. I can only hope the guy who stole gets cancer. To date I have 27 handguns and I Only reload so I guess that old BH started me on the road to ruin or at least thats what my wife would say
Beretta Model 76 22 cal pistol I bought at a gun shop outside Aviano airbase in Italy back in 1970. First handgun I ever owned or shot. Also S&W Model 19 I carried when I was on the job.

I am very happy with my first choice, since I could not CC in the 80's, it was a SS 686 with a 6" barrel. If I would of had the money then it would have been a Python. Back then it would probably been SS with a 6" barrel, but now it would be a Blue 4" barrel.
