Which handgun do wished you had bought first?

I wish I had made the leap for a Walther P99, instead of my P22. Don't get me wrong,I love my P22. I was taken for a ride on the price, though - paid 100 less than the MSRP of the P99.

I was painfully new to this whole gun thing. My second purchase and current carry weapon didn't hurt my bank balance as badly as my little .22 did.

I bought my high standard double nine first. I have bought and sold lots of guns but I held on to this one. New for 67.00.

Anything but the one I bought. An Iver Johnson Viking break top .22. Of course I was 14 at the time, 1958, and even then my mother had to sign for it. It was used, worn out and shot everywhere but straight but it was all I could afford at the time. I would have sworn off handguns forever were it not for the second one I bought, a Colt Woodsman. Should have saved up and bought it first.

Any one of my Glocks.

For years I bought into the misguided thinking that all plastic guns were junk.

Don't knock it till you try it is a good way to live by.

Like RT, I wish I'd started out with either a Colt 1911 or a Hi-Power (I still have never owned either). It didn't happen because my only firearm interest at the time was revolvers (my first gun was a 6" S&W 686).

A quality 22

...and I actually did it. The gun shop owner recommended it to me, gave me logical reasons, and I took his advice and got my Ruger Mk. II Target model. It was a good call.

I'm with anteater... for years I had no interest in polymer. I picked up my first polymer pistol (an XD40) this past Summer and now wish I would have tried polymer pistols way earlier.

But I was (and still am) happy with my retired police S&W 15-3 revolver that was my first pistol.

I did pretty good with my first ever handgun purchase. I was very, very close to purchasing a Taurus 669 but got cold feet at the last minute, and instead bought a 6-inch Smith & Wesson model 686. I still have the box, wax paper, cleaning rod, sight adjustment tool, etc, but the revolver is in gorgeous but very used condition. That was 1989 and I was 18. I bought the Pachmayr grips for it even before the revolver came in.

Any of my 1911s. Not much I haven't owned - at least for a while. Had I chose the 1911 first I'd have probably saved some money...

A Steyr GB. I've got one now, but If this were my first Handgun, I wouldn't have purchased the Taurus PT-99 that broke within 1 year of owning it.

I wish I would have held out for a Sig 220 instead of settling for Sigma 40VE, but then the Sigma was a gift, and you know what they say about gifts and horses.
