Interestingly enough, I have three Pythons and two Commanders (stainless and XSE LtWt.).

If I had to choose, and knowing a lot about the choices themselves, it would have to be the Commander.

The Python is a joy to hold and shoot, but the Commander is today's "do it all" pistol that is built like a tank and will handle thousands of rounds without going out of time, and then is slim enough to serve duty as a CCW weapon with ease.

But I'm not giving up my Pythons. ;)

Add my vote for a Python. If I had no other handguns, the Python would be a better choice for me. A .357 revolver may be the "ideal" handgun based on versatility, considering the variety of ammunition it can handle well.

Will this thread be revived again next year?

Never had a Python..but here's a vote for my Combat Commander with it's add'l caliber conversions: .45 ACP, 9mm, .38 Super, and .22 LR. Can't remember if I had to switch out the ejector or not...seems like I did...it's been about 15 yrs if memory serves. At any rate, it works now with any of the slide assemblies on board without monkey'ng around with the ejector. With the .22 or .45 ACP slide, it's a sub-2" piece at 25 yds. The 9mm or .38 Super open it up to 2-3". Functioning is 99.9% with any slide. Regards, Rodfac

Python-of course

There is nothing like that clockwork precision click-click. Pre 70 6" blued finish.Oh I think I'm gonna mess myself!

Python,, 357 Mag,& I'm any old man & like wheel guns & COLTS,, always loaded & on Safe. Anything more than 1 -2 shots & i'm running.

If I didn't have any other handguns, I'd go with a 4" Python. It's my ultimate "do everything I need to do" gun.

I do own a full size 1911 as well, but if all but one had to go , the 4" Python is the "keeper"

I'm fortunate enough to own one, and it's a joy to shoot and carry. No safe queens here.

This is actually a remarkable Zombie thread.

Opened 5-20-06 with a poll which seems to have ended on or about 6-7-06. At least that is the last time it was responded to until...

4-12-08, when it was resurrected, and enjoyed another week's-worth of life until...

2-10-09, when it was resurrected by the same member with the exact same post! It lived for two more days before it crawled back to the grave, only to trick another newbie into uttering the dead-thread resurrection chant on...

1-03-10. At no point during this story has anyone seemed to notice that the poll is long closed. Creepy.

Before it crawls back to the crypt, I might as well add my 2¢: Python.

It's the closest poll...

...I've ever seen here. By far. Amazing. That many votes, and THAT close? It's a first, in like ten years.

python

me for the python. smooth action. great sight picture. adjustable sights. it can shoot 357 or 38 (unless it's a 38)

No question - the python is not only beautiful but an unbelievably smooth action and shooter - a little pricey now - I bought mine "as new" in 1968 - made in 1957 -

Did have to pay $99 for it though - the dealer was a good friend of mine -;)

The Colt Agent was new so cost $115 - I bought those two in 1968 when we were expecting race riots as they had in Detroit and, having taken my surgical training in the county hospital there - knew I would be needed in hospitals and operating rooms if it happened and wasn't about to be intimidated into staying in the "safety" of home. The Python lived in my car and the Agent in my hip pocket when I went in hospitals. Permits were unheard of but that was not only the least of my worries but I never even gave it a thought.

For carry, though, it's hard to beat a Colt Government Model 45 ACP -
