Which 7 Rifle calibers would you choose

It seems that there are no two lists alike. That's what keeps the cartridge, barrel, component, die, gunsmith, and gun companies in business.

My list is fairly short and "needs" driven:

.22LR
.22 WMR
.223 REM
.243 WIN
.270 WIN
.30-06

I keep pistol calibers in pistols these days, but once had an O/U in .357 Mag, cause I didn't have much money and cast a lot of bullets.

I stay away from big-kicking magnums because I don't hunt anything larger than moose and can shoot well enough to kill anything in Maine with a .270Win or .30-0...even beyond 400 yards. There aren't many places where you can even SEE that far where we hunt.

The .22WMR is falling out of favor with me, except for shooting relatively small critters, including woodchucks around the house, and sometimes it takes a few shots to kill one. Only one is needed with a .223 Rem, so the cost is less (but it's quite a bit louder).
 
Just two I'd really need

6.5 swede for everyday everything rifle and .338-06 for dangerous N. American game. If I ever went to the Dark Continent, I'd think about the .375 H&H
 
Easy options for me but don't need 7
.204 ruger (owned) ultimate varmint and accuracy above all others
.243 win (owned) allround take down 99% of Australian game and varmints
.270 win (owned) bigger game and range
.338 lapua (wanted) amazed by range want to get just ammo price a deterant
.375 ruger (wanted) hear good things probably over kill for aus game bar asian buffalo
.44 magnum (owned) fun scrub and walking rifle close range lever gun
.45-70 gov (owned) ultimate lever scrub gun take down anything we got with plenty of whoomp to spare

Only really want .338 lapua, only put ruger in there to fill the gap

308win deer sniper personal I own 3 1 cz550 custom, 1 Mauser 1 encore pistol
45-70g bear, deer I own 4 to marlins 1 Davidson trapper i scout custom, 1 tc encore custom 1 lipsey ruger no1
375H&H dangerous game and very large I own 1 soon to more
30 06 C M P I own 1 Springfield 1903 soon to be more
45lc fun in a lever Cinnamon arms 1873 I own rifle and rem 1858 conv revolver
 
.223 - favorite cal. for varmint
.243 - first cal. i killed a deer with.
7mm-08- current cal. i use for deer
.338 Lapua- love this cartridge. shooting savage 110ba was very memorable
.375 H&H Mag. favorite cal for large game - moose,elk,brown bear
.416 Barrett- never shot it but want to one day. heard great things
.450 Bushmaster- Hog killing machine!

Don't own a Rigby (what would I do with one anyway??), but I own or have owned the rest. Plenty others, too, but they went away. As far as favorites

My Luddite List:

22 hornet - mine is a mdl.# 43 Winchester
250 Savage - don't have, but would take a nice Savage 99 chambered for it.
7X57 have on springfield action
30.06 have on a mauser action
30WCF have 1932 eastern carbine
338 WinMag had Ruger #1 nice but unnecessary sold
375HH- again don't need but an early mdl 70 or HH fantasy
416 Rigby same as directly above
45-70 have Browning 1885

Actually, it is not. I knew there would be several who did not read the OP, or would not give answers based on the parameters requested, but I am surprised at the huge number of responses that don't answer the OP.

For the few of you who did, thanks, those few posts were interesting.
 
5.56 for small game and if the zombies attach I can find them anywhere.
243 great deer rifle and easy to come by as well
30-06 for large game hunting
308 for large game as well and just plain awesome . vary flat shooting
357 mag popular caliber that I like
44mag for my henry great brush rifle in the slicks close shootin
45.70 kills everything including a 1995 Pontiac engine block lol short story and for another day

I didn't see 14.5x114 on the list anywhere. Every red-blooded American should own at least one belt-fed Destructive Device :cool:

all else is superfluous. ;)
