Where do you keep your HD?

If I am awake, it is holstered on my body. When I head to bed, it goes between the matress and box springs..........easy to reach, but not bothered by all the tossin' and turnin' I do at night.

. That covers a nosy guest, friends of the children, or a bad guy

I put away when having people over (or at least the main rooms where they will be), no children, and for a BG to find it, theyd have to know where to look, theyre not in generic desk drawer places, but rather "hidden in plain view"

I don't (can't) carry when I'm not at home, so I don't carry at home either. Like Southcali, tend to wear just shorts in the summer around the house, or sweat pants and t-shirt. Comfortable. When I get a true pocket gun like a Ruger LCP or Seecamp, might start carrying one around at home.

I have kids, so can't scatter guns around the house, although if I lived alone I'd probably always have a loaded gun within reach in my normal spots where I'm likely to be spending a lot of time -- desk, nightstand, underside of the kitchen table maybe, and a big one in the bathroom. Holster attached to the head board of the bed is also a good option.

However, as it is, all I have readily accessible is my S&W 4516 in my nightstand drawer, unloaded, with a loaded mag next to it. Also have a Streamlight flashlight on the top of the nightstand, with a battery life sufficient that it will always be ready.

I wonder if it makes a difference where people are located vs whether they carry in the home? I too live in Kalifornia, and it would be rather inconvenient to carry in basketball shorts. However, i can see if you live in a less climate-friendly state, like anything north of cali, you would want to be wearing pants more often.

anyway, my hd is staying at my bro's place right now, but i kept it by the bed loaded.

maybe it's only me

First thing I thought, "right I'm going to tell some potential BG (is still the internet you know) where i keep all my guns. I will say this, like most i have one on me or within arms reach 24/7

...like most i have one on me or within arms reach 24/7

Ditto..I never answer the door without my best friend ready to be introduced. Got a lot of crazies coming to my door. I was caught one time without my friend and it turned really ugly..never again.

SIDE NOTE: People who (and i know many) keep their HD guns in a safe or unloaded are making a HUGE mistake, imo (as most i am sure).

Yeah, well, then one day you wake up and have a couple toddlers running around the house and suddenly unsecured loaded guns in the house doesn't seem like such a great idea. My solution is to use a small safe in the drawer of my nightstand. Within arms reach, push four buttons and I'm in. I feel much better now with this arrangement.

AR-15 and a .44 Mag in my safe in my room.

And two guard dogs that go into a beserk frenzy of barking if an ant steps within 100 yards of my property.

Well, hopefully that should give you time to turn on a light, ruin your night vision, and grab one or the other. And restore your vision before they arrive at your door--everything going as planned, of course.:D

I keep three in my house.

1) In an Uncle Mikes holster strapped to the back of my night stand is my 45 Para Ord.
2) In my home office I keep a 9mm Mak next to my printer
3) I keep a 357 S&W on top of the bar cabinet in my family room where I spend most of my free time.

I don't keep firearms scattered around the house because I don't like the idea of someone finding firearms if they are in my house. That covers a nosy guest, friends of the children, or a bad guy -- either at night before he's discovered or any other time if he's in there by himself.

Bingo! Although I'll add - I'm not worried about my son, he's very well-educated in safe gun handling. When I'm dressed, I wear a handgun (or two). When I'm not dressed, I carry the gun around and set it next to me. The handgun is there so I can get back to my 12-gauge in my bedroom. It's all about tools for the task. Don't plan to use a pocket knife when what you really need is a meat-cleaver.

I'll play too.
I have a few guns stashed around the house...
S&W M&P .357 Sig w/ streamlight tlr1 in the shower (most vulnerable place ever), same setup on the backside of my headboard, M&Pc 9 in a picture frame safe next to the front door, and I'm usually carrying something from the time I get dressed till I go to bed.
