Taurus got my vote. The Taurus in question was a PT1911 when they first came out. First and only gun that jammed every type of ammo manufacture weather it be ball (50% of the time) or HP (100% of the time). Sold it a week after getting it. Not worth sending into Taurus and I bought it intending not to do any work on it.

Every other firearm I've owned or own has ben 100% reliable. That Taurus to me was bad ju ju.

High Standard DuraMatic

The nut that held the barrel on kept coming loose. This was before the internet was popular and I didn't know about places like Numrich so I traded it off.

My worst gun ever was a Taurus PT140. It constantly failed to go back into battery, so much so that I started having nightmares about it...seriously.

Taurus by far. I owned 4, and 3 failed, 1 catastrophically. That is a 75% fail rate for NIB pistols. That is totally unacceptable, especially as competitive as the handgun market is concerned. There are to many better products out there for me to ever waste another dime on Brazilian garbage again.

Worst ever - Mauser HSC

My worst experience with a handgun was with a .380 Mauser HSC. Okay, it was about 25 years ago. I was commuting from LA to North county San Diego for work and I took the HSC along for protection. After about three weeks of commuting, I went to the range and took the little pistol out as carried and it misfired on the first shot. Sold the pretty little thing promptly (I like bigger calibers now).
Funny thing is, now I would like to have another HSC now that it doesn't matter.

For me, it was a used Smith & Wesson 65. It didn't seem to shoot consistently and the lever to release the cylinder barely worked. I had to push it hard, then push the cylinder hard to get it out.

I don't know what happened to that gun in its previous life, but it was a big POS when I had it. I can't help but wonder if a steady diet of 357 messed it up.

I can't help but notice the high number of votes for S&W. There are also a high number of them out there too, I suppose.

I also had a real POS Ruger 10/22, which had to be sent back to Ruger twice before it would cycle reliably with any 22LR ammo. That really burned my ass.

Anyone notice there are a lot of brands that aren't mentioned in the poll? Online polls like this are so unscientific it's ridiculous anyway but why isn't there a choice for guns like Raven, Tec, Hi Point, and Auto-Ordinance. All of these have made some absolute junk that is far worse than any of the guns listed including Astra. I have a great Raven. My brother has one made in the new factory and it's horrible.

Then there's things like actual functioning as a gun. It may not have breakdowns but if you can't hit the ground when you shoot straight down you have a real peach of a gun. I've seen a LOT of Beretta's that fit that description. Mostly they were .25's and .32's but they're out there. For the first 35 years of my life I never saw a Beretta that I would give 2 cents for. And I've seen a ton of Ruger's that were absolute junk. Those .22's they sell can be a complete joke when it comes to hitting anything. Some people swear by them. I swear at them. I can shoot a handgun extremely well (I hate saying that but I'm trying to make a point) so I KNOW that those Rugers can be absolutely awful when it comes to hitting what you're shooting at.

Is anyone aware that Sig had terrible problems with the P220 when it first came out? Pretty much like the Taurus stuff that gets bashed so often around here.

Then does anyone notice that guns with great reputations have a high number of hits in this poll? I realize Glock had some problems but they're still know as an extremely reliable gun. So why do they have so many hits? Because a lot of people have bought them so that raises the chance someone has had a bad one. The same goes for the favorite whipping boy around here, Taurus. A lot of people have bought their guns because of price so that gives people that own them a lot more chance to have had problems with one or more. It's pretty obvious that they've had some problems but according to this poll so has Glock. If that doesn't tell you how scientific this poll is I don't know what will.

And what's with Luger only having a few hits? They are total junk that will fail at the drop of a hat.

The only handgun I've ever owned that had an actual failure was a Norinco Tokarev clone. It was easily fixed and was still working perfectly years later. I did have a problem with a Tec-9 but I'm not sure if they would actually qualify as a handgun. They can be great if you want to do a drive by I guess. I had one just for kicks. The feed ramp got grooved by a misfeed and I had to send it back to the factory. That's the only gun I've ever had to do that with and I've owned a LOT of guns over the years.

The bottom line is that this poll is worth about as much as the electrons it's printed on. I certainly wouldn't use it to base a choice on. I would pay far more attention the individual comments and what is actually being said.

Glock got a ton of votes without a single voter explaining why. I find this very suspicious.................maybe a few jealous XD guys out there LOL:D.

26 people voted for Glock as worst handgun, but there is lack of supporting posts thereof!
That is strange...you would think someone would have posted what model they had a problem with. I'm not a HUGE Glock fan, but I have owned several, and still own a G21....they might not be the prettiest pig on the farm, but I never had a function problem with one.

I had a Colt Target that couldn't make it thru 1 mag w/out FTF/FTE.
Sent it back to Colt numerous times. So much so, that they had it in their possesion longer than I did!

Yea, I don't understand the Glock thing either. That's what we have to carry with the SO and I haven't seen any issues to date, other than user error. Don't bash me... I'm not a "Glock is the Almighty" person. But I can't argue with dependability and functionality under all type of conditions. (would still rather carry my HK) lol

My worst..... Probably the POS's we take away from folks all the time.
Bryco / Jennings - no explanation needed
HiPoint - neighbor bought one and wanted me to 'fix' it
Llama - just saying it makes me laugh

And a shocker.... I had an Ingram MAC-10 one time.... the frikken hammer kept coming apart. Went through three until I just sold it. For those not familiar with the old hammers, they were 5 pieces put together and not one solid piece. If I remember correctly they were just tacked together. They would come apart and then I would have five thin 'plates' rattling around in there where most mfg would have a solid block for a hammer. Go figure!

I have a Springfield 10mm that I've had a few problems with. Every time i fire it, the adjustable sights move. I've even had them come off the gun completely. Its a shame since its such a nice gun. I've been meaning to have a gunsmith look at it, I believe the milling on the sight assembly is too big for the sights. Its the only problem I've had with any Springfield gun.

My father had a Dan Wesson 1911 that was nothing but trouble. The extractor broke within a week, so it was sent back for repair. When it came back, the first trip to the range the firing pin broke. Sent it back. Next trip out, the extractor bent and was useless. Sent it back again.... After 4 or 5 trips back for repairs, he finally sold the gun after having fired less than 400 rounds through it. I'm sure its an a-typical case, but I haven't considered buying any Dan Wesson's since.

And what's with Luger only having a few hits? They are total junk that will fail at the drop of a hat.

It's because no one has them. They are expensive collector's pistols.

The cheaper ones seem to go for around $1,000 (with most of them costing more), and what do you get for that price range? A pistol that's still at least a little beat up.

And, at least half the votes in that category are for Mauser anyways, which is in a similar situation. The one Mauser pistol that isn't a historical relic is nearly completely unknown.

Witnessed a Norinco 1911-clone literally self-destruct in a matter of months, it was a range gun so I guess it was used on a weekly basis, but still in barely six months in was unusable.

No vote from me, as I have been very happy with my choices so far.

It's apparent that there are as many blind Glock haters as there are Glock kool-aid drinkers. :D
