Whats your best handgun buy?

$400 for a stainless Colt Combat Commander. sold to me as used, but was never shot. it had very slight surface rusting on the frame in the matte finished areas from the previous owner must of had something on his hands.

so i bought it and walked next door to the shop, taped the polished off and reblasted the matte finished areas. a good thorow cleaning, oiling and trigger job later. i was back to a beautiful colt!

two in the last 2 weeks

first was a Kimber Custom TLE II was used paid $480 out the door with orig. mag and a chip Mccormick mag. 100 rds of ammo and a holster for it.

then saturday found a Springfield 1911 GI. it looks to be very lightly used.(so light that I believe he bought it shot it a few times and has been sitting since.) came in the box with all papers both mags cleaning rod and brush. paid $375 even with the WW serial number meaning made and assembled in Brazil I believe. for anything under $400 for a name brand 1911 is a steal.

thats all I got for now. I really need to quit looking cause I believe the other half is wondering if I am going to buy a gun a week. lol

Just got what I think is a good deal. 90 bucks for an H&R 642 22 magnum revolver. with holster and belt, too bad the belt just might fit around my thigh;)

I bought a brand new SS Ruger Security Six in 1984 for around $230, which was just a nice discount off the MSRP of the time.

That revolver went into a ready service locker in our newlywed bedroom and has been there ever since, ready to go whenever needed but thankfully not needed so far. Still there, still ready.

S&W 1911 45ACP 5" about 3yrs ago and never looked back. As soon as I started shooting it on those targets that turn green I saw big satifsying green holes touching eachother. The gun fits like a glove in my hand I love the 1911. I fired 165gr. +P Corbon to practice with that SD round 1250FPS and 673 Ft/Lbs ( Love this ammo). It shoots like standard 230gr. Ball just a tad more zippy. You can tell the bullet is lighter and you are pushing it fast. I like experimenting with 45 ACP loads. They can go from really light and fast to heavy and slow. Both effective and devistating because its always .45 in diameter.

About 11 years ago, bought in a gun shop, a S&W 696 no dash in 98% condition for $395. Remains my favorite handgun and carry it often.

My first Browning HP, which I still have, that I effectively got for free plus $50 in my pocket. It was on a trade for a govt 1911 that I bought from a friend of my father who was a retired CIA guy around 1975 for $50. It was a SA marked arsenal rebuild, the stamps were everywhere, remember that no new 1911's were made after the 1940's, using a Colt slide on a Remington Rand frame. He had only shot it 6 times since new issue in 1963 and I had put a box or two through it, so it was in great condition. Traded it around 1982 for the BHP and $100.

This is my first post. I've been reading TFL for a long time and decided to jump in to this great community.

The best deal I ever got on a handgun was on my Ruger Single Six. I bought it from my dad for 200 bucks to prevent him from selling it to a stranger.

That is all.

Wasn't sure what it was when I bought it, just looked nice....$900. Later found out it's a Lew Horton special run of 300 Colt Gold Cups done by the Colt Custom Shop. Retailed new in 1993 for $1300...one recently sold for $2500.

Bought this new in 1990 for $1600, three barrel set Springfield Armory Omega.....later discovered it's one of only 15 sets ever produced, valued today at over $5000.

I have 3 to mention in random order:

1. Smith model 10 (late 70's) 99% creampuff for $250

2. The mighty sigma 9VE at $319, best $300 on the planet

3. PT-99 (don't remember the price), 10's of thousands of rounds, awesome at any price

car and rifle pkg deal

Way back in '88 I bought a 4 door Chrysler (318 motor) and a Winchester 30-30 from an older gentleman for $600. The rifle turned out to be a pre '64 model. Got $1100 trade-in on the car at my Ford dealer and traded the rifle for a nickel 4" Model 19, Pachmyr grips, 500 .38 swc reloads and a box of .357 Hydrashok. Totally didn't get hurt on that buy or subsequent trades!

Best deal to me

My best deal may not seem like a good deal to anyone else, but I am VERY happy with it.

I bought a LNIB Beretta 9000S in 9mm for $300. I ended up hating that gun. It was too big for CCW, jammed all the time, just all around hated it. Tried to sell it privately for a couple months, then on a whim took it to the LGS to see what he would give me. It's important to note that it is no longer LNIB, has some wear on it from shooting. So the owner looks at it, talks it over with himself and offers me $350 for it. I of course jumped on that because it's a $50 profit. So I bought $350 worth of a Taurus TCP, holster and ammo. Now I have a gun I love and that I can CCW.

Like I said, most would not call that a great deal. But, I sold a gun I hated for a profit and got what I really wanted with no out of pocket cost. :D

Best buy

I bought a like new ruger redhawk hunter model for $450 in 2008 from a family member. They were going to sell it to a stranger but while visiting them I expressed that I was looking for one and they wanted me to have it over some random joe. Funny thing is that I didn't even know that they owned one. It also has a customized trigger that is incredible. They retail for about $950.00 now.

I had a friend who didn't want his S&W 686 4 inch so i bought it off him for 350.00 plus he even pitched in for my dinner,it was a win-win situation for me.
Another friend sold me his savage .308 with bushnell scope for 375.00 and it still had the plastic wrap, bolt removed and in it's box unfired.

Quite a few years back....

I was in a gun shop looking at Colt 1911's. New ones back then were about $350 whick at the time I didn't have. The shop owner asked if I might be interested in an old military 45 he had taken in. I said yeah, if I could afford it. He brought it out of the back and said he would take $75 for it. I knew a little about military 45's even back then and bought it. It's a complete Union Switch and Signal 45 in about 80% condition and that grading is only because the finish is badly woren in places. It's function is fine and is completely original. Had it appraised by a well known military handgun collector a few years back and he said he would give me $3500 for it to help complete his collection. Decided to hold on to it. It's a nice piece and isn't eating anything, so it will only escalte in value.

I bought a S&W model 15 recently for $206 counting tax. I has a lot of holster wear but I didn't see any nicks or scratches on it. I'll be taking it shooting Saturday and I'll update this.
