Whats your best handgun buy?

Webley-Pryce No 4 made by (for) the famous Scottish Gunmaker James Dalziel Dougall of Edinborough and London circa 1880, cal .450/.455/.476, complete with original case and label, overall 85% condition, and the only extant example, as I have been able to determine, of a revolver by this maker.

There are some of his shotguns and double rifles still extant, Hamilton Bowen is a collector, but this is the only revolver I have found

My best buy is not because of a great deal on a 'wishlist gun'. My best buy is my S&W 442. It is a perfect carry weapon for me as primary or backup. Best decision I ever made.
Oh but if I could find a LNIB Smith 581 for around $400 I just might change my tune! That's #1 on my wishlist!!!

Ruger P95 9x19mm retail prices....

$300.00 USD is fairly common for the new/NIB Ruger P95 pistol in most areas.

I've seen a few places with P95s as low as $275.00 new with sales or store specials.

I think Ruger's own MSRP for the P95 9x19mm line was around $295.00 in the mid 1990s.

Last year. Harrington & Richardson 999 Sportsman for $138.00 out the door.

This is an easy one: My current carry gun. That would be my 4" stainless Ruger GP-100. The guy I bought it from is the brother of my wife's best friend. I had seen him shoot it a few years earlier, and one Sunday he visited our church. I asked him if he still had it. He did, and I learned that he'd bought it new, and had only fired about 2 boxes of ammo through it so far. He also mentioned that he was thinking about selling it. I asked him how much he wanted for it, dreading his answer; I've seen these revolvers selling for close to $700.00 new in some places. He replied: "I don't know...$300.00, I guess." At this point, my jaw dropped {literally}, and I was about to say "I'll buy it." However, he apparently took my agape expression to mean that I was haggling, and so before I could say anything, he says, "Okay, $250.00." My jaw dropped open even further, as I looked over at my wife, who said, "You better jump on that." Needless to say, I did. :D

best

Best one? I had always wanted a "Free Pistol". Then along came a used Pardini and I bought it, years ago now. Wraparound olive wood grips, set trigger - two ounces, adjustable umpteen different ways - very fine sights, front and rear multi adjustable.
It is the most accurate gun that I own. $250, IIRC.

2009--Ruger P90 LNIB paid $200 for it on Auction Arms. The seller had mistakenly put it in "Accessories" rather and semi-autos.

Bersa Model 83

I bought this off a friend for $125. The Thunder 380 that replaced it goes for about $300.

It is compact, but still allows a full grip. Nice, narrow slide. It is as accurate as a full size auto in my hands, I think due to the combination of low recoil, fixed barrel, and adjustable sights. It is reliable and very cheap to handload for. The only problem is recovering the brass among all the nearly identical 9mm floating around at the range.

I'd say even at full new retail price, ($300) a Thunder 380 is a great buy. They are better shooters than Walthers that cost twice as much.

#16

5Wire, that's a heck of a deal for a 9mm revolver, esp that one with the 3" barrel. very nice looking. I like to get one because I have thousand's of new factory 9mm I bought in the good old days esp the 2000 GDHP +Ps.

Thanks, I couldn't believe my luck at the time. I shot a bunch of the GDHP with it. Pretty snappy.

I am also a great fan of my Sig P6, but my best handgun buy was probably my Browning Hi-Power for not much over $300. It was "used" (still in the box, looked like it had never been taken out of the box).:)

About nine years ago picked up 6" nickel Python, used but with original box, two pair grips and two speedloaders for $350. Six years ago got a mint 4" Viper (no box) for $265. I was happy with both finds. Who says gunshows are boring?

Years ago, as a street cop I worked "foot patrol" where there was a Magazine-Newsstand/Dirty Movie shop.

Like most businesses we were suppose to make a presence. I got to know the owner and we talked about guns quite a bit.

One night I came in and he just had to show me his newest find. Seems he did some handyman work for a guy who paid him with a WWII Browning HP.

I told him it was nice, but he should get a 45. He laughed and said it would suite him. I reached up on a shelf and pulled off a copy of COOPER ON HANDGUNS, told him to read it and get back with me.

A couple days later I came back and he runs up to me and says you're right I need a 45. He wanted to trade the Hi Power for one of my 45s, a Combat Commander. I laugh, and says sure, with $150 to boot. He talked me down to $130. I took the deal, and then bought another Commander from another cop for $130. So basically I got the Browning & $30 for nothing but pointing out Cooper's book.

Mine was a Glock 29, bought it in 1998, brand new, $458.99, IIRC. I sure wish I still had it:(. It was my greatest handgun purchase, ever! But someday I'll own to of my dream handguns: my dad's 4006 TSW, and a Browning Hi-Power! Those two probably won't be shot or carried much! I may have to get ol' dad a Glock 27 or 23 for Christmas, then maybe I'll have an easier time talking him out of his 4006!:)! Of course, once he may want to keep it and have two .40 caliber pistols, one for the home and one for ccw!

Mine was a Ithica 22 lever action saddle gun, single shot.I paid 12.00 for it in mint cond.46 years ago.I gave it to my little brother on his 12th birthday and he still owns it today.

My Ruger Single Six. Bought from a pawn shop in Jacksonville 20 years in LNIB condition for only $125 out the door. Complete with spare .22WMR cylinder and carrying case.

Sorry. I have two good buys.

1. In 2007 an out of work friend asked if I wanted to buy a gun. My first question: how much? "$200.00". What kind? "Colt". OK! Turned out it was a Colt Gov't. .380 in ss. Original box and papers. Even the orange hang tag and original price tag.

2. 2010 a friend of my sister was visiting and said she had a rifle behind her sofa that someone gave her many years ago for protection and she didn't want in the house. She said she'd let me have it for $75.00. Question: What is it? "I don't know". What make is it? "I don't know". I gave here the money and the next week my sister went to visit her and brought home a 1976 Ruger M77 in 30-06 in a 2 rifle hardshell case and 2 boxes of ammo. I called her and told her that she should take more for it and she told me "A deal's a deal"!

I still have both.
