Whats your best handgun buy?

Whats your best handgun buy ever? I mean one you went out and bought not a gift or inheritance?

Mine is a Sig Sauer P6 German Police trade in. I had to change out the springs because they use pretty hot ammo. Price for the gun $219.00 and $13.00 for springs. Most reliable 9mm I've ever owned not to mention more reliable than any semiauto I've ever owned. This gun was marketed in the states as the Sig 225.

A frequently asked question, but here goes:

My S&W Model 19-3. $200 in 2001. They've gone up since. Sometimes I contemplate selling it off to finance some other toy, but I'd probably regret it.

Mint early S&W Model 34 .22 revolver (misidentified by the store as a Model 17):

In '08 I was taking a buddy out to all the local gun and pawn shops helping him get a feel for what he wants to get for a carry gun. One of the last places we go into was a little hole in the wall pawn shop with mostly overpriced junk, when in the corner under the glass I see a lightly used little Seecamp .32. I ask to look at it, check it over...while it's a little dirty it's in really good shape, I ask what they wanted for it and he tells me $225 OTD. Needless to say, about 15 mins later it followed me home. ;)

Natman how long ago did you get that for 150$ and do you sleep well at night?:D
I figure you paid about 1/3 what its worth in very good shape.
Mine was a Kimber Royal carry with about 25 rounds through it. For 350$
Older gentleman that I knew bought it new and hated it. Light weight and it hurt his hand to shoot.
Being a friend I told him it was worth a lot more than that, but when he took it back to the gun shop here in Fort Wayne IN (one of the longest in business) they only offered him 300.
He said he would rather have a friend get it at that price then the rip-off artist gun shop owner.
PS it came with 8 wilson mags
The gun is worth 800$ plus.

I sold a kimber raptor commander for $850 and a week later the guy asks me if I want to buy it back for $350. He was hurting for cash, so I bought it back. So essentially I was paid $500 to buy a raptor. How awesome is that? I traded it later for my SP-01 and some extras. I always found the raptor too heavy to carry and only have 8 rounds. It was a beautiful gun. when it arrived at the gun shop, the guys were all excited because the grips it came with were different in color than all the other raptors they had seen. It was a damn good looking pistol.

Okay...here it goes...and you're gonna hate me.

About three years ago I bought a 1937 S&W 38-44 HD with all matching numbers and pre-war Magna grips for $270.

At about the same time I bought a S&W model 13 3" round butt for $275.

Springfield 1911-1A, new for $285.00 in 1994. This still a utterly reliable and very accurate .45acp. And now that I handload for it, even better.

What, When, where, and why!

At my local gun store, in the used bargain showcae.
Ruger .357 police service six. 6" barrel. Had some old dried gun grease all over it, but i could tell it would be pristine if cleaned. I was right. $200! (2011)! my fave bedside piece / trailgun!

I got this 3-inch round butt 547 in 2003 Bluebook Priced at $285 before they got a clue. The Hogue Bantams were my concession to save my knuckles from the trigger guard. The original stocks kept in storage.

Surplus LE issue Beretta 96D .40S&W; $580.00 USD...

My best deal so far was in 02/1997. I was able to fire up my new credit card & buy a NIB never issued Beretta 96D .40 meant for a small state LE agency(PA Fish Commission). The Police Special blue box had a Robar NP3 pistol with 03 NP3 plated 10rd 96 series magazines. The duty pistol had bright green Trijicon 3 dot sights & rubber Farrar grips(with the Beretta arrow logo).
The new surplus pistol was a total of $580.00! :)
The NP3 plated magazines closed the deal for me. I was either going to buy the police surplus 96D or a new in box model HK USP .45acp(DA only). It was around the same retail price.
About 2mo later a sales clerk in the same gun shop told me how the state agency wanted to "buy back" the 96D .40 pistols but knew it would be a major legal and $$$ hassle.

I only owned the surplus .40 for about 3 years but many people told me that was a great deal.

Another great offer I was able to jump on was in 2006. I purchased a new/never issued Ruger GPNY(produced by Ruger in 1991 for a NYPD contract). The stainless 6 shot, DA only revolver was great and I only paid $425.00 USD for it.

CF
ps; I'd add a super deal I almost had around 1994. I saw a local estate sale in VA listing a LNIB Smith and Wesson model 19 .357magnum 4" barrel for $50.00! Yes, only $50.00. I was low on funds at the time but I'd snag that .357 in a second! ;)

I've been wanting a full dust cover rail trp for a couple years. Emailed a lgs and inquired about getting a Springfield, kimber, colt or whatever they could get. They told me colt is hard to get due to a militan contract they are filling and they are not a kimber dealer. He says he's are getting a couple used trp's in.

A month later I finally travel to go see and they had what I was looking for!

$1159 was the price. I laid it away the following Friday and picked it up a month later. Waaay cheaper than anywhere I seen online. They had a used stainless trp for $1500

This past January I paid $630 OTD for a NIB thats right NEW... Springfield Champion Operator.

Also got 6 Chip McCormick Power 10 mags + 4 Chip McCormick Power 8 mags + 2 Colt factory mags for it... for a grand total of $40.... All the Chip Mc's still in sealed packaging.

Put VZ Carbon Fiber 320's on it for $100.

About a month ago.. I bought a HK P7 PSP... great condition... frame is flawless... slide is the heat treated purple hue with some holster wear.... for $270:D

Almost forgot to mention the Winchester 1300 Defender for $150.... "Used" but still had styra-foam balls in the barrel from being in its box.

Dang

I wish I had a great buy to tell you all about:(

:D

Well... I guess the closest thing I have to a great deal on a hand gun is a used 50th anniversary Ruger Mark II.

It cost $250.00 out the door. The gun came with nothing but it's magazine. They asked me if I wanted a bag, but I said no thanks and just carried it out tucked behind my belt with my shirt over the top. (it's good to have a carry permit:)) I also talked them into giving me a free used magazine for my SW9VE, and they even threw in a loose bag of 20 rounds of 9mm. They have loose rounds come in sometimes and instead of trying to sell them, they just give them away to their "good customers".

The gun cleaned up really well, it has hardly any wear. I'd say it's almost brand new and has a lifetime of shooting ahead of it. It's neat that it's the 50th anniversary, I always wanted one. Plus I'd take a Mark II over a Mark III any day! It's been 100% reliable so far, and the sights are dead on. Yup... I guess I got a good deal after all. :)
