What's the smallest gun you pocket carry?

Carrying a gun in a pocket is the sign of an amateur or a gangbanger. If you're going to carry a gun get a holster.

Kel Tec P3AT..very small, very light and very inaccurate. But by far my favorite pistol to carry, in regards to comfort anyways...

NAA .22 mag. Easily out of sight in pocket or boot holster. Lightweight single action.

Drail-
I have been pocket carrying for about 30 years. I'm certainly not an amateur, and the last time I checked I wasn't a gangbanger.
Maybe I'm a professional.

Smallest carried CCW is my summer time (shorts, T shirt, flip flops) gun, a NAA 22. However, of late I have been checking out several 32's that have come through the shop. No doubt I'll have one of them in the future. As for 380 vs 9mm remember what each was designed for. As a former LEO I've seen critters and criminals dispatched with many small caliber junk guns. Not that they will not do the job but where I draw the line of consideration is with the 25ACP. Given a choice I'd just as soon have a good rock, no make that a golf club. Sorry just my HO.;)

Polish P-64 9mm Makarov
Pros are:
1 Ammo is available online at prices comprable to 9mm Lugger.
2. Baliticly similar to .380 ACP
3. Simple working mechanisms, and few moving parts.
4. Nothing that snags on it. Sight blade is pretty well rounded and smooth. The saftey has never hung up in my pocket.
5. No mag catch on the side do drop the mag in my pocket.
6. DA/SA
7. 6+1 capacity
8. Affordable at a price of under $200 (mine was $200 OTD with 400 rounds of ammo, and a pocket holster)
9. Very reliable in over 1000 rounds so far mine has not had a single problem at all.
Cons are:
1. Heavy (it is all metal, this can be plus for some that hate polyguns)
2. Trigger in DA is hefty at about 12# DA, and hairy at about 2# in SA(I personaly like the first one being hard with a pocket gun.)
3. Limited choice in defensive ammo. Hornady make some good hollow points for this one, other than that all I know of are bear brands of ComBlock stuff, though it is pretty inexpensive.
4. No slide catch lever. Last shot hold open with emty mag.
5. Euro mag release on bottom. If you want to reload quickly it is not as fast as the ones on the trigger guard. (Still faster than a revolver with speed strips.)
6. Recoil. I put it on par with snub .38 spcl with some real hot +p loads.
If it were all I could carry I would not be worried at all.

drail,

Maybe you should open your mind up a little to the possiblity that pocket carry is also for those of us non-thugs, non-amateurs, that have realized throughout the years of carrying that we don't need to carry a bigger to feel comfortable or to feel more "manly". ;)

I have a Taurus 85, 38 Special, 5 shot revolver;
a Ruger SP101, .357, 5 shot revolver,
a Ruger LCR, 38 Specisl, 5 shot revolver.

The SP101 is a tank, heavy, carry cross-draw if dressed for that.
The Taurus is a bit heavy (all steel).
The LCR is what I pocket carry. I use no BUG.
All three are good guns.

I also have a Kahr PM40, .40 caliber, 7 shot semi. It’s in a back corner of the closet. I’ve fired it. Haven’t seen it for months. Don’t intend to ever go looking for it.

Hoytinak, You are sadly mistaken if you think I was referring to the size of your gun or the size of my gun. I absolutely do not believe carrying a gun of any size makes me feel manly or that you carrying a small gun makes you less manly. I could not care less what size of gun you want to carry. The subject of this thread was carrying a gun in a pocket. I have carried enough junk in pockets for enough years to see all of the lint and crud that finds its way into mechanical mechanisms. Ever look at all of the fuzz in your pocketknife from carrying it in a cloth pocket? You think that stuff somehow won't work its way into your gun? Ever seen a pocket rip out and dump stuff down your pants leg? How quickly can you get your gun out of your pocket? Do you think no one can see that gun bulging in your pocket? Do you think maybe there was some reason that holsters were invented? Do you believe that cops should just carry their guns in their pockets? And please take your Freudian analysis regarding my manliness and stick it in your pocket sir.

well sure

clean your gun once in a while and they do make pocket holsters help protect it

yup, I've also seen belts and holsters rip and drop a gun

just as fast as you carrying IWB/OWB...just like you, all it takes is a little practice

unlike the little bulg on your waist?

the same reason pocket holsters were made...to securely hold your firearm

several of my co-workers (mix of tx highway patrol, sheriff deputies & city police) that pocket carry off duty & pocket carry their backup gun

What's most amusing about Drail's comments is that they run 100% counter to the advice that I've received from people that actually carry a gun for a living, or teach with pistols. From Gunsite instructors on down, I can't count the number of people that have told me that they carry a j-frame or a small semi-auto pistol in a pocket, especially during the winter when you're wearing a heavy coat.

All those people understand that the first rule of gunfighting is have a gun, and I can say from personal experience that I'd much rather have my Jetfire in my jacket pocket than nothing.

I pocket carry my Kel-Tec 380 in my weak hand pocket in uniform, with a S&W airweight on my ankle. The KT is a great go everywhere gun. Although, when my Dept authorizes the LCP I will probably pick one up and the KT will be a glove box gun or a gift to my nephew.

A Titan-25 with eight shots of Win X-point int my Uncle Mike's #1 holster in my pocket right now.

2.1 seconds to first shot and 4.2 seconds from pocket to eight shots on paper at 21 feet. With practice.

I have never been comfortable with IWB and pocket carry is all I do. Yes, it's low FPE, but it's eight shots. Yes, it gets lint, I clean it out regularly. Yes it's visible, but very low print compared to larger guns. No, I won't use it unless I have to. :D
