What's the smallest gun you pocket carry?

I'm looking for something smaller than my 1911 and slimmer than a J frame Smith. The J frame I have pocket carries half decent, but it's a little too chubby. I'm thinking about a slim auto, maybe a Walther PPS or M&P compact. Anyone else have ideas? I'd like something in 9mm or larger, not a huge fan of the .380.

A .380 LCP is the perfect pocket gun IMHO. However since you don't like .380 for whatever reason (even though it's not too different from the .38spcl in power) maybe a pm9 or pm40

FN/Browning 1910 .380. No sights to snag, no hammer to snag and no sharp, square corners or angles to contend with.

only bugs I would carry are the J frame, Springfield micro compact or the EMP. If you like the 1911 look at the Micro or EMP.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. The reason I'm avoiding the .380 is that I watched a relative empty six or seven of them into an attacking dog when I was younger and it kept going far longer than one would like. My J frame is a .357.

I'm taking a good look at the EMP and the small 1911's from Para Ordinance.

Attacking dogs (and other animals, too) are a different matter. When they are in a blood rage, it seems that their entire nervous systems shut down and the only way to kill them is with a head shot.

I've carried a few but usually end up sticking daily with my smith 442.

It works for my needs pretty well. I got a new Mika pocket holster
which is a keeper.

I pocket carried a S&W 642 for the summer. It was too chubby. The cylinder bulged my pocket. So for the winter I switched to holster carrying a 1911 or other full size gun. I still carry a pocket back-up gun, but have downsized to a CZ Model 1945 in .25 ACP.

Polish P-64 9mm Makarov
Pros are:
1 Ammo is available online at prices comprable to 9mm Lugger.
2. Baliticly similar to .380 ACP
3. Simple working mechanisms, and few moving parts.
4. Nothing that snags on it. Sight blade is pretty well rounded and smooth. The saftey has never hung up in my pocket.
5. No mag catch on the side do drop the mag in my pocket.
6. DA/SA
7. 6+1 capacity
8. Affordable at a price of under $200 (mine was $200 OTD with 400 rounds of ammo, and a pocket holster):D
9. Very reliable in over 1000 rounds so far mine has not had a single problem at all.
Cons are:
1. Heavy (it is all metal, this can be plus for some that hate polyguns)
2. Trigger in DA is hefty at about 12# DA, and hairy at about 2# in SA(I personaly like the first one being hard with a pocket gun.)
3. Limited choice in defensive ammo. Hornady make some good hollow points for this one, other than that all I know of are bear brands of ComBlock stuff, though it is pretty inexpensive.
4. No slide catch lever. Last shot hold open with emty mag.
5. Euro mag release on bottom. If you want to reload quickly it is not as fast as the ones on the trigger guard. (Still faster than a revolver with speed strips.)
6. Recoil. I put it on par with snub .38 spcl with some real hot +p loads.
If it were all I could carry I would not be worried at all.

don't completely write off the .380's. the new ammo makes them more effective for SD. (hornady CD and winchester has one too.).
the colt mustang and sig p238 are 1911 platforms and very easy to carry. the sig has some sharp edges (i'm planning to radious and meld it)

but if you must have a 9mm or bigger, EMP is your best bet. I have the EMP9 and it carries very well. PM9 is good if youre into DAO, but I like the colt pocket 9 better.
