What Would You Carry If Government/Military Calibers Were Banned?

FiveseveN (5.7x28mm) is a Government / Miltary caliber. Not just because FN desiged it that way but because it was adopted by the Secret Service.

38 Special is a military caliber, it's still in use with the U.S. Navy. It's also still used by the FBI - yes - it's still used by FBI agents.

I'm not sure that the ammo itself would be banned or the guns that fired them - in which case the 357 mag is out just because 357 magnum revolvers are still in use at the FBI.

I also beleive 357 magnums are still in use with the Departement of Energy Special Response Team - this along with a lot of other government agencies you wouldn't normally think of, end up taking a lot of calibers off the table.

I wonder what all the Coast Gaurd uses... probably excludes even more calibers that people would think would be OK.

It's not just 40 S&W, 9mm and 5.56 that would be off limits in this scenario.

As I've been an old fashioned revolver guy for years and years, I'd simply opt for one of my .357 magnum revolvers, most often my M-5866 or M-19.

^ The Model 19 Combat Magnum is still in use with the FBI.

Wouldn't that qualify as a "Government/Military Caliber" ?

OH and BTW 38 Super is used by the US Secret Service Counter Assault Team (CAT)

For everyone saying they'd use 10mm - it's used by the FBI Hpstage rescue team, in their MP5/10A3 submachine guns.

I'm not sure about this one - but I thought National Park Service rangers were issued a 44 magnum carbine at one time maybe the Ruger Deerslayer? Maybe those aren't around anymore, but it only takes a grandfather clause and a couple of old agents still using it to make it off limits to the public I would think.

When you start to look at all the myriad calibers that Government uses - you're left with stuff like 41 cal, 9mm IMI, 9x25 Dillon and similar...

I think I'd fall solidly into the camp that would want to throw the finger to the man on this one.

I'd think find something that chambers the physically largest cartridge I could find and open carry.

Maybe one of those BFR's in .45-70 with the barrel cut down to 2" and the 2nd amendment scrimshawed on the cylinder.

Isn't the .357 mag still used by USN pilots?

One of my .45 Colts. I'd also send ol' jhenry an invitation to meet me and a bunch'a other good ol' boys down at the Alamo for a fight.

what would I carry?

What I mostly carry now - 38 special in a Model 64 or a model 36 chief special.

I probably wouldn't even notice. I'm a 45 Colt and 38/357mag kinda guy. I'd stick up for the rest of ya though.
