What Would You Carry If Government/Military Calibers Were Banned?

I'm a revolver guy so probably a 357 mag, or a 44-40, or a 45 colt. All this calibers would allow me to carry single ammo for both rifle and pistol.

In my country not only Italian LE Agencies/Military calibers are ever banned, but either calibers used by foreign Armies.
Even 9x17 or 9 Short or 380 auto was banned in the Land of Sun up to 1985.
We got used 9x21 IMI instead of 9x19 Luger long time.
Only when U.S. Army adopted Beretta M9 we could carry 45 ACP instead of terrible 45 HP (Hirtemberg Patronen) that needed a special ring for chamber adjustment.
So if Law bans 9x19 there's 9x21, if bans 40 S&W there's 357 Sig, if rebans 45ACP ther's 45 GAP and why not 10 mm!

and why not 10 mm !

Because it's basically impossible to create a pistol less than 5.5 inches that weighs less than 14 onces and reliabley shoots the 10mm.

You can do it with the 9mm - Kahr and Rohrbaugh both have pistols in that weight and form factor that shoot the 9.

But if a country has the power to enact outright bans on it's citizens, caliber is usually a moot point anyway because there usually are also bans on small concealable weapons. The same countries that ban calibers also enact minimum requirements for barrel length - like a minimum 4.14" in Canada, 4" for revolvers and 4.72" for semi-autos in Australia.

Well, because 10MM was dropped by the FBI due to it being too much for some agents to handle but I don't have any problem with it. My Glock 20!

However, if the government would outlaw public possession of military, and LE calibers it would probably be all centerfire guns. So a Ruger LCR 22 would be my first choice in that case.

Government/military calibers is a significantly more expansive list than the three calibers listed. It also depends specifically what you mean by government calibers, and if it includes foreign governments as well.

357 mag... if that was banned then a 45LC.

most rounds have been used by governments at some time. At one point the old 45/70 was the military round of choice (from a rifle of course)

Isn't the .45-70 still used in some form as a means of propelling a line charge for the bosuns chair thing in the Coast Guard?

I think they've finally replaced all of those for more modern line throwing guns using .308 blanks.

Dang, I was hoping the .45-70 Gov't would upset the 7.62x54R as longest serving military rifle cartridge.
