What make and model of 9mm do you have?

I have a 9mm Shield as my EDC. I really like it and it goes everywhere with me. It is also the newest 9mm I own

I also have a:

CZ75 pre "B"

Browning Hipower (it turns 50 years old next year)

West German Sig226. So far my favorite.

AC code P38 made in 1942.

Although not a handgun, I also have an Uzi

I've owned a bunch of 9mm's over the years, but only have two these days.

Ruger LC9s

Smith & Wesson Model 39-2.

9mm's

Current:
S&W 439
Ruger P85
Browning Hi-Power
FEG Hi-Power
Sig Sauer P6
Springfield Armory XD9 Sub Compact

Former that I've given to my son:
S&W 39-2
S&W 669

Star B
FEG P9RK
Wlather P1
Hi-Point C9
Beretta 92fs
Kahr CM9
Glock 17
Remington R51

If you liked your Taurus, get another one. Or a Beretta 92.
Another good choice in a hammer fired gun would be the CZ75, or one of the Turkish clones from Canik or Tristar
If you would rather try a striker fired pistol look at the Springfield Armory XD line, or Glock.
This is assuming you want to stay with a full sized service pistol, and not something for CCW.

Just purchased a Walther PPS-M2 and gave the Shield to my son. The Shield is a very good gun, but I liked the Walther much better.

HK VP9. Ive always been a 1911 guy but I love this gun. Its so smooth and so consistent, not to mention its yet to have a malfunction. Not to mention its super easy to field strip. I still love 1911s but if I had to go off to war tomorrow and had to take 1 handgun that Id need to use day in and day out and bet my life on it, Id take the HK.

Rick B. For unlimited fun with your 938 get the short .22 l r conversion kit from Sig. Short barrel, concealable if you want, night sites and reasonably accurate as well as priced right ( I got mine on sale. For $200).

The absolute best carry pistol in the world. The Gen 4 Glock 19. But recent manufacture, not used, new.

TruGlo night sights, extended factory slide release. Cut the bottom corner off the magazine release, digs in to the second finger, good to go.

Carry ammo. Win 147g non plus P. Very accurate, excellent reputation.

I would love to see a Gen5 Glock with the only changes made to the polymer frame. Bigger undercut under the trigger, no grooves, nor space in the trigger guard, and a different back strap system (the dimples for the larger pin create a hot spot in the web of my hand). Otherwise, functionally I wouldn't change a thing from the Gen 4 Glocks.

If on a budget, I own a Sarsilmaz K2P and would never part with it. For double the price, I also own a Beretta PX4 Storm, very underrated. Cz's can't be beat as well as H&K.

"Just curious as to what is being used nowadays."

Every Model of every 9mm pistol ever manufactured. Any questions?:)

I have had (but sold long ago):

Ruger KP89. Big, blocky, unergonomic, inaccurate, but 100% reliable

SIG P226. Ergonomic, fun, accurate, but not totally reliable (a surprise to me since it was a W. German made SIG)

I currently have:

CZ 75B. Perfection...Reliable, ergonomic, accurate, fun gun

CZ P01. Needs more range time to prove itself, but it looks like it is every bit the smaller version of the 75B

SIG P290RS. Love it, reliable, more accurate and comfortable to shoot than any single stack mini-9 has any right to be.

Kel Tec Pf-9. Not totally reliable, very uncomfortable to shoot, reasonably accurate.

If you are looking for a gun for both you and your wife to shoot, I will 2nd (or 3rd, or whatever) the recommendation you already got that you should look for something with adjustable backstraps or other grip options. SIG P250, SIG P320, 4th Gen Glock, S&W M&P, etc. As someone else suggested, I'm also a big fan right now of intermediate sized guns that are decent at the range and also concealable (SIG P250 Compact or P320 Compact, CZ P01/PCR, Glock 19, etc.).

I have a bunch, all pretty great, no stinkers, limp wristers, etc, in the bunch.

1 Astra A-75. Amazingly great trigger. People are shocked when they shoot it.
1 Canik TP9v2, Nice grip, no problems. Not crazy about the looks of it though.
1 Sig P226, Ex NYPD DAO trade in converted to DA/SA. Looks a little beat up, but a great gun for $350.
1 S&W 5906. PR police trade in, looks almost new.
2 Tanfoglio TA/90 "Mossad" full sized, probably my favorites of all my guns.
1 Tanfoglio BTA/90 "Mossad" compact.
2 Taurus PT111 G2's.
1 Taurus 809 Compact.
1 Sar K2P. A great cheap gun. I paid $250 shipped for it.
1 Sar CM9 G2. Second gen K2P, great trigger out of the box. Another great Turkish made gun.
1 S&W 6906. Police trade in, looks awful, shoots great.

Hemiram, I never thought I'd want 2 of any particular gun, but I picked up a K2P for $279 and LOVE it. After 1500+ rounds I've had no issues with the pistol at all. I'm really tempted to pick up the CM9 G2. 2 mags + interchangeable back straps + aesthetic and tatctile changes to the polymer and slide all for the same price as the 1st Gen. Even given the lack of aftermarket, I'm amazed this gun doesn't get more press.

We have some 2nd Gen G19s around the place but my wife claims two of them for herself. Guess the other is a back-up or spare.

Briefly had a G43, again intended for my wife, but she didn't like it at all. It's on consignment at local shop right now.
