What lubricant do you guys trust/use normally?

These days I am partial to Breakfree CLP and Milpro7 for general cleaning and lube. I also like grease for Sig rails. I have used slide glide, wilson grease, tetra grease and they all perform about the same.

Ed's Red (do a google search).
Cleaner, Lubricant, Protectant (CLP) ...check.
It has all of the properties necessary to accomplish the CLP mission.
And it is easily produced at home for a reasonable price.

Been using BreakFree LP (without the 'C') for lube for quite sometime. No problems so I will keep using it.

What lubricand do you guys trust/use

I've got a variety, that I used some and tried the next. I have two bottlesof LSA from sixties.
Essox is I spelled it right is synthetic and clings. Let dry it form a slick surface but heat will soften it. I haven't found it in a while
Rig+P for stainless of machine guns clings good and is slick. Stays on semi auto parts that will sing oil better.
have a can of Mil sup aviation grease that is slick as snail snot but heat softens it quickly.
Rig+P and Essox for sliding surfaces are the two I used most . On firing pins etc a quick wipe with any one of the gun oils.
I have been thinking of trying synthetic engine oil like Redline which is real ester based synthetic no Mobil One more refined dyno oil.
Gotta find it first.
Any of the greases work better if the gun sits in a cabinet a while.
I don't use WD400 which is a solvent. I use to sue it but a favorite .22 rifle developed rust on the barrel sitting in gun cabinet for a while.
The stuff will even remove bluing if used enough.
I have used it to clean the AR bolt & carrier quickly but it requires some rubbing on carbon etc.
There's a bunch of good oil and greases out there. It would be nice if there was a review/test such as Consumer Reports but in more detail.

I have using Mpro7 for over a year now and have been really happy with it for heavy contact surfaces. it's really thick and stays wetter longer than the others I have tried, that being said, it's thickness seems to also be it's downside as it seems to collect dirt more on non-contact surfaces. I have just started using the hopes elite gun-oil, it seems like a nice medium between the straight spirit ones like rem-oil and the ultra thick like Mpro. I have only been using it a couple months, but seems to be a keeper so far and not attract the dirt as much and still keep it wel lubed for extended shooting.
for internal stuff like trigger systems and such, I just like a light spray of CLP or rem-oil on firing pin system, anything that evaporates dry pretty quickly. I am talking about hammer-fired stuff here, as I am not sure the best way to lube strker-pins if at all

FP-10 mostly and CLP and Militec are good as well.

I still see 3 in 1 around. It's in plastic containers now.

Sperm Whale oil

Sperm oil has a fairly low viscosity (roughly equal to coconut oil). It retains its viscosity in high temperatures better than most oils. It does not tend to become rancid, dry out, or corrode metals. Sperm oil cannot be hydrogenated, and thus could not be used to make soap or margarine. It is fairly resistant to oxidization.

It's favored for pastries. It's a superb oil for frying. It's an outstanding conditioner for gun steel, leather and wood. Eastern Woodland Indian tribes rubbed bear grease into the backs of their bows to seal out the elements. It's even been used to reliably predict the weather. Bear grease is also an excellent supplement to critter food. We give it, in addition to raw venison, to all of our cats and dogs.

But all kidding aside Mobile1 and EP2 wheel bearing grease. Maybe I'm a cheapskate but those are economically priced. That is all I use on my firearms, have for years.

BreakFree CLP. Used it in the Marine Corps and still do today. Some years ago, some gun rag tested all the available wonder lubes and it came out tops in protection (against salt water immersion). I think they all do a pretty good job of lubing and BreakFree is pretty economical.

There is a huge variety of gun lubes available .... Sounds like everybody is using something different... and guess what? everyone says they are happy with what they are using...

..... which means it really doesn't matter what you use.

Been using CLP/Breakfree for 99% of all my firearms applications since Bootcamp back in '85.

That said, I've been experimenting with Mobile One and also something called XF-7 lately. The latter is especially impressive. It's not runny nor does it dry out.

I used Hoppes #9 lubricating oil for more than 35 years. More recently i started using Slip2000 EWL on my AR's and have used that at times on my pistols.

I used plain ol' RemOil for years, primarily because it was cheap and easily available. It worked just fine, but a few months ago, I started using WeaponShield oil and I'm very pleased with it.

I am amazed this thread has gone on for so long without anyone mentioning DIY_GUY's test he did - CLICK HERE, or go the Gear and Accessories section, it is the first sticky.

If you have some time (and not just a minute as it is a rather long and comprehensive thread), check it out. He covered pretty much all the major options, and for things like rust prevention and water displacement, as well as lubrication.
