What lubricant do you guys trust/use normally?

Here is a link to the best test I have ever seen done. Nothing prevents rust as well as wd 40 specialist. The guy picked frog lube as his favorite when factoring in odor, lubricating agent, and rust prevention. What I noticed in the test, is that the wd 40 specialist has just as much lubricating quality as breakfree clp, remoil and many other gun oil products. It also looks to me like the One Shot product did exceptionally well but it's not mentioned as much. Below is the link.

I've been using Gun Butter for years. A bit expensive, but it takes very little to lubricate a handgun, just a thin coat needed. Honestly, I think any lubricant will do a reasonably good job.

I've used LPS 1 for over 30 years with good results. Cleans carbon easily, and leaves a dry film lubricant behind. Sometimes I'll put a light dab of synthetic motor oil on bearing surfaces, but usually just the LPS 1 after each shooting session. I see they now have it in wipes also.

I've recently been very turned on to dry-lube. I have sprayed up all the internals on both my SP-01 (only the rails and barrel are wet-lubed with Forrest synthetic gun oil) and my Ruger Redhawk which, now that I've rubbed off the excess is very smooth.

What I like most is that after shooting the CZ, nothing needed cleaning bar the barrel. Breech-face, extractor and all the other bits that usually need a scrub were spotless and the trigger action is way smoother!

Mostly M-pro 7 (both the gun cleaner and the lubricant LPX) with no problems.

Recently started using Hornandy Dry Lube, which works are a cleaner and greaser. So far so good but havent been using it long enough to say.

There is nothing wrong with Hoppes 9 oil as for lubrication. If it works well for you then stick with it if you want. I used it a long time also with excellent results and it get great reviews.

However IMO there are better synthetic oils that won't run or burn off as fast which may be important if one goes prolonged periods of time between lubing or is going to shoot a really large amount of ammo in a shooting session and does not want to lube during that session.

There are a TON of great lubes out there and IMO keeping your firearm well lubed is more important than what you use for lube.

That said I personally like M-Pro 7 LPX and Weapon Shield CLP. G96 Synthetic is supposed to be awesome also and I believe has a Mil Spec rating. On my metal frame SIGs however I use Slide Glide medium on the frame rails for lube.

With either M-Pro 7 LPX or Weaponshield when I clean my pistols I only need solvent (Hoppes NO. 9) to clean the bore. I just wipe off the rest of the internals.

For protection from rust I normally use Breakfree CLP or Eezox for prolonged protection on firearms I rarely use. If both are used according to instructions they work exceedingly well. Eezox for instance needs to dry and not be rubbed off before drying. Letting it dry like per instructions and it is totally amazing in preventing rust without leaving any oily/gummy coating on the metal/finish.

Frog Lube is the one lubricant I won't use because it has been known to grow mold while applied and even worse to harden to the point where it blocks the firing pin from hitting the primer if it gets into the firing pin channel in excess.

>As a protectant from rust, WD-40 works well. Regular wipe downs will prevent it from gumming up. It just doesn't work well as a gun lube,

and can gum up inside an action if left unused.<

"Amen", as I learned the hard way.

I use run of the mill ATF (auto transmission fluid) mostly, grease for sliding wear surfaces, and KG10 for trigger surfaces.

solvent/lube separate

I'll clean a handgun with Hoppe's, or Breakfree, or even WD40....sparingly with the latter.

But I have settled on TW25B as a lube, almost exclusively. As a grease, it does not flow into certain spots, but applied to rails, ramps, locking and cam surfaces, bolt lugs, etc, the stuff stays put and works a long time.

Hoppes Copper Benchrest in the rifle bores.

A rag saturated with RIG on the outside, grease sometimes on auto pistol slides, Mobile1, and CLP on other moving parts. The grease attracts and holds lint fairly fast on carry guns, so I use Mobile1 or CLP on the ones that I carry.

I use Hoppes #9 for rifle barrels, and a light film of CLP to lube them. If I ever get a copper build up I use Barnes CR-10 to get that out. I like the Moble1, it comes in a big bottle.

At the suggestion of someone on a forum somewhere, I recently bought a can of CRC Super Lubricant. It seems like it is going to work really well.

My mother was a stronger believer in Marvel Mystery Oil. She had a quart when she died in 1986. I have been using it ever since to oil a lot of different stuff. It has worked well on everything I have tried it on, including really rusty bolts and nuts.

I have used BreakFree CLP since the 80's, and I have never had an issue. Still will use Hoppe's on the bores if they are really needing it.
