What is your Self Defense Revolver?

Ruger sp101 loaded with El Dorado Starfire hps for hd and cc around town. When I go out in the woods I load up with Buffalo Bore hardcasts.

GP-100 .357 4" Half Lug with fixed sights and compact grips from the early 80's. It is one of my very favorite guns. The half lug balances well, Fixed sights are dead on, I've rung 6" steel @ 50+ yards with .38s, also very 'non snag' design. Original compact grips with wood inserts are 500% better then the hogues that come standard now-a-days. While not overly light it is 'compact' enough to carry on my person compared to a standard 4" GP-100 with a full sized grip. DA trigger wasn't great but now after a few hundred rounds it is... decent? Acceptable?

I bought it as a collector's piece as .357s half shrouds are not common and this one was LNIB unfired and about as old as I am. Loved it so much I shot it a mere 2 days later! .357s are a breeze to shoot out of this gun, .38s even more so. It is a no frills all business handgun. It resides in my room loaded up with .38spl +P JHP because I don't want to fired a .357 inside my small room.

For those of you who have chosen the .357 for self/home defense, what's your plan to address the extremely bright muzzle flash you're guaranteed to experience during a discharge in a darkened room, where most home invasions will occur?

I have experienced the muzzle flash and blast of a .357 Magnum in low light and without ear plugs before. While it was certainly noticeable, it wasn't the crippling wrath of God that many make it out to be.

Well, at least with a good hollow point in .357 mag you should only need to fire once.

For me, it's usually a S&W 686 4", loaded with federal 357b

What the heck is 357b?

FYI, my HD is a SP101 loaded with REM 125G SJHP 1450fps TURBO spin's.

My SD/CCW is a 638 super Airweight, loaded with super charged GDHP 135g +Ps.

2.5 inch model 19-5. Everything I need in a revolver......

When needed, a 640-1 as BUG or off duty summer carry. Regards 18DAI

I don't choose to carry a revolver too often ( I'm a 1911 guy ) ...but if I do carry them, I reach for either a 4" model 19 or a 4" model 66 ...

( here's a photo of some of them ..)..on the lower right is a pair of model 19's in nickel, and the upper right a pair of model 66's...

when I carry them / I carry a Hyrdra Shok round ....158gr...in .357 mag.

( I'm not worried about the muzzle flash in a dark room / the guy breaking in - should worry about the 2 or maybe 3 holes in his chest) ...depends on how charitable I feel ...

The M85 in the truck, the SP101 & 686+ at home and the 642 for out and about CHL duty usually.

Currently, my bedside gun is a SW Model 65. When I carry a revolver on the waist, it's a Colt Agent. I will occasionally carry a SW Model 38 Airweight in a pocket holster.

Tom Servo...very nice rig...great grips and a beautiful Tom Threepersons open top. Well done Pilgrim. Rod

S&W 325 Nightguard, .45 ACP and moonclips

I carry Buffalo Bore 45 Autorim, 200 grain Gold Dots, at 1150 fps as a first load, and Hornady safety loads for backup...

Taurus 85 Ultra-Lite. Old pic with Speer Gold Dots, don't use them anymore though. I keep it loaded with either 158 gr. LSWCHP's, or Corbon 110 gr. +p DPX. I also really like Remington Golden Sabers, but have shot up my supply of them :o.

What revolver and load do you use, either for CCW or Home Defense, or other defensive applications?

One of my carry weapons is a S&W 642. For HD, I have a S&W Model 13 and a Model 10.
