What is your 'perfect' home defense handgun?

If you had to choose a handgun for home defense situations(multiple BG's, etc) which would you choose and why? Suppressed? Light? Biggest mags available?

I always considered handguns as secondary or back up to my main weapon. If I knew I was about to engage a bad guy a handgun wouldn't be my first choice. Shotgun for close quarters, semiautomatic rifle for open engagement. I carry a handgun for the EDC what ifs and back up to primary. IMHO.

BHP

in the dark..I have my Browning HP...it fits my hand so well...it points to where my minds eye wants the round to go....

Any one that would help get me to my 12 gauge shotgun!
That would most likely my EDC that I have on me, or in the night stand after I go to bed. No criteria other than that which also fit my EDC guns.

No perfect pistol. First choice my 12 ga with 10 rounds. However if i did not have that and all i had was my handgun it would be my Sig P226 9mm with a 20 round magazine of Speer Gold Dot. I would cary a tactical light. I do not like mounted lights for home defense.

Either a G26 with G17 mags or a G17 with G18 mags. If 17-33 rounds isn't enough, you need to move or get an AR with a 100 round drum

The one with the SWAT call button on the side?

But on a more serious note, the closest one. A Gen 1 Glock 17 is better than a wish for a AK Pistol with a75 round drum in the safe.

Supressed would be nice, but I'm not sure most would have that waiting for such an occasion.

This one, because I'm very familiar and confident with it.

Suppressed so my eardrums aren't decimated. I'd go for a FN 5.7 because of it's good qualities in a indoor situation. Most any would suffice though. No clear right answer... only personal preferences.

That's what is most important here.

I usually keep my glock 19 on me in the house so that's what I'm most likely going to use immediately. I would feel confident with my glock 19, my s&w model 66, or my 1911.

But my suppressed sbr ar15 is what I will go for if I have the time.

I have a S&W 4 inch model 64 .38 in my nightstand. That is what I will grab until I can get the 7 shot 12 gauge pump shotgun loaded with 00 buckshot that is just behind the dresser in the corner of of our room.

S&W Model 19, speedloaders, amplified headset. I have been shooting that revolver for over 30 years. The advantage of the amplified headset over a can on the firearm is that I get hearing protection when the shot is taken and enhanced hearing when I'm trying to gauge what's going on.

I think ideally I'd want an FNX45 with a mounted light. Of the options I have available right now though my M&P9 loaded with some HST's and on occaision I'll leave my AR15 out and it sits by my bed for a few weeks because it's seeing frequent use. Lately I keep it stocked with some cheap Fiochi Vmax 223 I bought in bulk. Not the best round but I think at point blank range it's more than do the job.

We do have a sawed off 12 gauge shotty around. Just barely legal and that would be another fine choice.

Our German Shepard would also make a fine choice too....He's a massive dog. I have to wonder if he's got something else in him because he dwarfs my buddies Rotty

We are apparently assuming multiple attackers who will not flee when the shooting starts. This is a bold assumption.

1) 12 guage
2) semi-automatic rifle
3) high capacity semi-automatic pistol

I don't know about "perfect" but my choice is a full-size SIG P320 .45 ACP with night sights and a rail mounted Streamlight TLR-2 laser/light combo.

I think it should be the same as your everyday carry.

Like anything else, the Home Defense gun is useless if its not available.

You have to have access yet only you should have access. It should be secure from kids and other non authorized people.

To do that it has to be on your person. Figuring it takes 3-5 seconds to kick in a locked door, we know its going to take longer then that to get from your couch or kitchen to the bedroom or closet and unlock your gun.

If its hidden where you can get to it, others can get to it,

UNLESS

Its concealed on your person. To do that it has to be comfortable, concealable, and accessible (not likely a child will be able to pick your pocket).

You're not going to conceal and carry a shotgun or rifle. You're not going to be able to comfortably conceal and carry a full size semi or revolver.

A small gun in your pocket beats a big gun in the truck or locked away by your bed or closet.

My first concern is no kids or grandkids have access to my guns, my second is that I do. Best way to accomplish this is to lock up all my guns in my safes, except the one that's on my person, only under my control, 24/7.
