What is your favorite pistol and why?

My fave that would be impossible to name. If I had one favorite I would not have 3 safes. With well over 80 handguns, not to mention the rifles, shotguns, and blackpowder stuff.
What gets shot the most that would be easy to say. .41 Mag Ruger Blackhawk. Why it is fun to shoot. It is versatile in the range of how I can load it from very low recoil, soft shooting. All the way to the guy shooting his .44 mag looks over when I shoot that .41 and it sounds like thunder next to you. I also cast my own lead for bullets So it is very cheap to shoot at a cost of less than 10 cents a shot reusing the cases.

If I had to pick just one it would be a Colt 1911 because they feel great and will work for anything from targets to killing.

PPK/S because it's ergonomically pleasing.

My 1911 full size, it really fits my hand nicely and the barrel length helps with my accuracy. I have a Commander for CC but I prefer to shoot the 5-inch.

My favorite pistol is my Yugo M-57 Tokarev, an updated version of the Russian TT-33.. It is basically a simplified John Browning design. As issued, it holds 9+1 rounds of 7.62x25 Tokarev, a hot little round. I also have conversion barrels that allow me to fire 9x19 Luger, 38 Super, 9mm Largo and 9x23 Winchester in the pistol. Put together the versatility and the fact that the pistol is built like a brick outhouse, and you have my reasons.
The Yugo has an aftermarket installed manual safety that uses the same manual of arms as the 1911. Magazines from the CZ-52 are easily modified to work in the Yugo.

My favorite: my Glock G36 .45ACP.
Small, tough as nails, great to carry, even with only 7 rounds of ammo. It conceals nicely and functions perfectly.
I love my Springfield 1911 and my other Glocks, particularly my G19, which might be the Perfect Handgun.
But somehow every time I shoot or handle the G36, it just feels perfect to me.

Sig single stacks. Deadly accuracy and amazing feel. The double stacks are some of the better ds pistols I've felt, but I still prefer the singles. Sig is, honestly, my favorite pistol manufacturer and their singles (220 and 225) just feel better than any other pistol I've ever held.

I've got more rounds through a 1911 than anything else, but lately I find myself using a HK USP .40 compact even though I shoot the XD .40 better. I just got a new holster that fits the XD very well and I may go with it. Then of course, there are the SSA's in .45 LC, .44 Colt (1872 open top), and a Colt Commander in .38 Super and, and, and.:p

Mine is my H&R 999 Sportsman .22rf. I wanted one for year after shooting my granddad's as a kid, finally found a mint condition one the day before last X-mas.

For me it's the Beretta 92FS all the way. Love shooting that gun, love cleaning and just looking it over too. :-)

Runner up, my Beretta NEOS (INOX with the 4" barrel), this thing is just plain fun, very accurate, very reliable, and shoots those nice and cheap .22's.

Model 29-2 in 6.5 inch barrel with Pachmayr decelerator grips and .44 special cowboy loads. Not a hand burner like the mag rounds, can drive tacks at 25 yards.

Semi Auto: any decently built 1911 .45 - from an Essex to an Ed Brown all in 5 inch.

I'm gonna have to go with Elle McPherson
On a more serious note I am very Partial to my Para-Ord Warthog
and my Tanfoglio Witness Tactical. A good ole Colt Series 80 with a Crimson Trace usually sits by the bedside.

While the answers here have been great, I'm a bit disappointed in the lack of photos.
I'm also surprised more 1911 fans have not come forward - I fully expected at least half the replies to involve Colt 1911s or their clones. That may be because 1911 users are too busy shooting/reloading to fool around with forums:
My wife's (current) favorite, 1968 vintage nickel Python, with equally old Mustang grips:

She also likes her S&W Model 13-1, especially with the Ahrends maple grips. This has a smoother, lighter trigger than the Python (!).

My (current) two favorites: A S&W Model 57 no dash (.41 mag.) with CDNN Herrett cocobolo stocks:

And a Springfield Armory XDm (.40 S&W)

My favorite carry gun is this 9mm Walther PPS:
