What is your "best buy" gun?

My "best buy" gun would have to be my Smith and Wesson M&P 15 Sport. I got that AR for $650 at my local Academy. In these modern days were living in, cheap is 90% of the time crap. Thats definately not the case here. This $650 AR I have is better than most people's $1300 AR. I like to go down to the range and ask a few people if they want to put their AR against mine in a 100 yard acuracy test, I have done this 6 times so far and have had better groupings. After, I ask how much theirs was and all 6 replied over $1000, and then tell them mine was $650. The look on their face is priceless:D

Brand-new Ruger 22/45 (MKIII) purchased in November of 2010 for $269 plus tax. I made a few cheap modifications to improve the reliability and shootability, and have 21,000 rounds through it so far with bulk-pack ammunition.

My 1954 collector grade Garand I bought from Gunbroker for $1100. It is brand new and was made the year I was born. I bid $1100 (the minimum) and won it!

Also, a 1956 Winchester Featherweight in .308 I bought it for ~$500 about 8 years ago, the gun was in pristine condition and appeared not to have not been fired. Looked at some of the prices now and believe I did well.

Mine is a crusty US property marked Colt 1911. Not an A1. It was made in 1919. I went in my LGS one day (around 1996), and in the case was a nasty looking tan 1911 flap holster that had been attached by the flap to a cowboy style belt. In it was a rough looking 1911. I asked the clerk to see it, and the first thing I noticed was the lack of trigger relief cuts in the frame. The tag hanging from it said $200.00! I promptly told him I'll take it. When he got the magazine for the pistol, it was a 2-tone magazine.
The frame dates 1919 and has no finish and moderate pitting. The upper half is parkerized and was re-arsenaled at some point, but is all Colt.

Saiga I got brand new on sale from classic arms for $299:D

I should of bought a dozen and held on to them I could be making a killing selling them right now

A few years ago, I bought a DWM American Eagle Luger in 30 cal Luger for $2000 from a neighbor whose husband had passed away. I knew it was a rare pistol and thought at the time that $2K was a fair price. A year later I sold it for $4500 to a collector. That was a nice windfall.

My Colt Combat Elite 1911. I had given up on ever finding one and had walked into the gun shop to buy a Ruger SP101 and there was that Colt. I bought it on sight.

As far as best deal, my Remington 700 in .308 in McMillian stock with VX4 scope. I gave $500 and my full length Mossberg 590. The previous owner had been blinded in his right eye at work and couldn't get the hang of shooting a rifle left handed.

So far I don't regret buying any of my guns, so my best buy has to be based on economics, rather than performance!

And there I have two candidates; both Ruger.

1. Ruger Redhawk, .44Mag, 4" barrel: bought new for 47% less than the retail price. That gun has taught me how to shoot a large calibre and has shoved me into reloading

2. Ruger MkIII512: bought for about 50% less than retail price!! That gun introduced me to the insanely and deceptively addictive world of the 22LR. What a great round... sooo much fun. This gun has become my most shot, despite doing IPSC with my 9mm...

These were bankruptcy stock from a second store, being sold locally.

Never nice to see a business go under, but every cloud....

I have two. My best buy is a surplus Sig P-6 bought about 2 years ago for $275. Last time I saw them they were priced over $350. That would be my best buy; here is best deal. Traded a Taurus 85 snubby for a Kimber Custom Classic Royal Series I. With the ammo traded had $400 in the revolver.

A used Smith & Wesson 915 for only $270. A lot of gun for such little money. The 3rd gen Smiths don't seem to have gotten much respect, which is a boon for anyone who appreciates their build quality and has noticed how reasonable the prices are for one.

I bought a Norinco 1911 for $200 and traded it for a 1911 with an Essex frame and Colt slide and internals. Shoots anything and everything and mote accurate than I am.

A Bulgarian Makarov for $100. I refinished the slide, did a trigger job and added new grips. I carry it all the time. Great guns!

About a year ago, I got an older 20 ga Rossi coach gun with the "Greener" cross bolt lock for $250 OTD at the Market Hall gun show. Thought that seemed like a pretty good deal. Though maybe it is only the 12 ga models that are bringing more. I'm happy with it at any rate. Slight mushrooming on the firing pins, but still goes bang. Before that it was a pristine mid-50's M&P that a woman I know "gave" me. Her dad gave it to her, I went to teach her how to shoot it, and she was afraid of it, so she gave it to me to hang onto. Couple years later, her boyfriend and his .40 moved out, so's she asked for it back. :( The scary part is, she wasn't home when I went by to drop it off, and she said if she wasn't the next time, I could just leave it in the bushes. Told her in no uncertain terms that that would not be happening.

I've had some good deals. $400 for a nice Smith 66-1 2.5", had agreed to pay $500 if it checked out and the morning we were to meet the guy said "I'm gonna be a daddy, need to sell this today. $400 and it's yours." It's mine now :)

Paid $340 for a stainless Ruger Gp100 in very good condition. Came with a box or two of ammo and a leather holster, although the hoslter was pretty crappy.

Paid $325 OTD in a pawn shop for a very lightly used Sp101 2"

Same pawn shop, have bought several Smith 686+'s (7 shot) for $430 OTD. Probably my best buys.

Got an NIB Kimber UCII at a gun show in Austin a few summers ago, for $675 OTD ... love it, just got fiber optic sights installed ... accurate, has never failed ...

Smith & Wesson Model 547, 3-in barrel, for $285 in 2003. That would be about $354 these days.

Shown with Hogue Bantams, original wooden grips stored away.
