What is your all time favorite "fun" caliber for the range?

Fun to shoot?

BooOOOMMM!!

Until I tore up my shoulder (not a shooting related accident) my .44 mag. Ruger Redhawk absolute favorite. Handloaded countless thousands of rounds for it. Fun to shoot and accurate. I miss shooting it but can't even hold up now.

Got a bunch of 1911s, and have reloaded way more 45 acp than anything else. No idea of how many cases of .22 I've gone through in my life so far...but those are the two I shoot most. A lot of fun factor with both.

If the empties weren't so hard to eject, I would say .30 Carbine from a revolver. (I really should polish the chambers in that gun.)

Also, .45 Colt loaded with blackpowder is a lot of fun.

I just got a 7.62x25 (TT-33), that round has a lot of promise.

Least fun is a .380. It's recoil is nasty, and it throws the brass into the next county so I lose half of it.

44 cal cap and ball revolver.

22 lr is fun, because it's cheap.

38's are fun, too. They're easy and cheap to reload and the brass lasts forever.

I like 45 acp, too. There's some sense of satisfaction in lobbing fishing sinkers downrange. :p

45 and 38Super

I like shooting 45 Colt out of old style revolvers-USFA SAA and Uberti Schofield.
Also 38 Super because I shoot very well with it.

.45 ACP

.45 ACP, 185 gr LSWC, 4.9 gr Bullseye for practice, 200 gr JSWC, 5.7 gr Bullseye for more serious stuff. Disclaimer: From memory, so don't take those loads as gospel without checking manuals. At any rate, I had far more fun with .45 ACP than any other caliber when experimenting with loads to perfect my pin gun. Even more than .22LR.

38 special followed by a 22lr. I have several simi-auto hand guns that are great for self defense, but I hate to pick up brass at the range.

I really enjoyed tinkering with the 44 magnum, and the .45 acp, but currently it's the .357 Sig. I just picked up a P229 SAS Gen II, and even though I haven't started handloading with it, I love it, even with just the factory loads. I've got the dies, brass, primers, and a lb of Power Pistol powder. I'm just waiting on some projectiles. I'm realling looking forward to tweaking a few different loads. I've researched the 357 Sig, and I've got quite a bit of data. It's a very interesting round, a bit limited compared to the 44 magnum, and 45 acp. It's made for speed (velocity), so if you drop the velocity, you mind as well stay with the 9mm, and keep the added capacity.

.38 Sp and my 586

Howdy,

My favorite range round (Especially vs. Steel plates at 12 yds.) is UMC .38 Spl (130 gr.) for Steel plates. This cartridge, when paired withmy early 90s S&W 586 is my favorite combination!

Larry C.

PS: The wife and myself also enjoy this load through her 5-inch barreled Model 10, made in the late 60s. What a trigger!

There are lots I like, but nothing brings a smile to my face like the .44 magnum ... especially from a Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley!
