What is the worst gun related advice you have ever gotten?

Mouseguns work great if you "do your part" and "hit 'em right".

A hit with a 9mm is just as good as a hit with a .45.

How about GOOD advice I didn't take?

I asked my Pawn Shop Guy if my (then) fiance said no could I trade the engagement ring for a Ruger GP100 he had...

He said, "You're better off buying the pistol...."

....he was right.:(

"don't ever buy a taurus"

i've bought 3 revolvers and 5 semi auto taurus handguns and have never had a single problem with any of them. oh, they are accurate too :)

Im suprised no one mentioned this one. "Its a shotgun you dont have aim, just fire from the hip and it'll take out the whole room".:D

I'm gonna go with "You don't have to carry at {insert locale}, it's too safe there.

Sure, most people don't carry at all and they're perfectly fine their whole lives, I understand that, but if you're going to carry, picking "safe" and "not safe" places is pretty silly.

If it's "not safe" enough that you think you'd better bring a gun, why the heck are you there?!

When asking to see an autloader 12 guage...

Don't buy an autoloading shotgun for HD. They are highly unreliable and constantly jamb! Get a pump instead.

That my Colt Anaconda .44 Mag wouldn't handle heavy loads.

That hot .44 Magnum loads and long barrels are necessary to kill deer.

Take your choice:

"A .45 will break your wrist with the recoil"

"A .44 mag will split your skull if you don't hold it all the way out at arm's length"

Uhhhh, . . . neither one proved to be true.

May God bless,
Dwight

Don't buy a 1911 that has "U.S. Property" stamped on it.....it was stolen from the military and you could be charged with receiving stolen goods.

You don't need to carry a gun. Normal people don't carry guns.

Ashamed to admit my wife told me that gem just a few nights ago upon feeling my LC9 in the chest pocket of my vest.:rolleyes:

On my preference for large bore, flat nosed bullets for game shooting.

"You should use hollowpoints, and don't shoot anything too close. The hollowpoint won't have time to expand before it gets there."

To which I replied,

"So if I took a shot at a deer at say, 1000 yards with this 45-70, how big would the slug be at entry?"

Was answered with,

"I dunno but it'd be big. I tried killin' a deer real close with my 300, took 2 shots cuz the softpoint didn't have time to expand."

Seems to be a fairly persistent train of thought in this area.

"""Skywag,
WD-40 will cause rust in the long term.
It is banned for use in airplanes by the FFA.
It is hydroscopic and draws moisture. This is not a myth."""""

Arch,

WD-40 will not cause rust, ever.

How do the "Future Farmers of America" (FFA) have any say in banning WD-40 from airplanes?

"Hydroscopic"???? I've never heard that WD-40 was used as an instrument to view underwater.http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hydroscopic

Maybe you meant something else, or more likely you are just repeating an old wives tale and don't have a clue.

It's true! I'll be by to confiscate any such weapon later. I want to take it and give it a tune up as recommended by other smart people:

- Smooth out the feed ramp a good tune up with a dremel, makes feeding better!

- The magazine spring has likely lost some spring and taken a set. I'll just stretch it a little. Stops jams!

- Parkerize the whole thing! It will tighten up the parts to make it run better!

.....Remember just ease the hammer down when you are done practicing reloads on empty chambers.
