Tactical Rifles from D-Day

June 6th is the D-Day everyone thinks of there were many others. These are a couple of the rifles used on those days.
Both have birthdays in 1943.

Heh, that first one is a legit M4. If the 'thats not tactical, because its not used in a tactical situation' guys want to try to kill this thread, I guess I win so far?! :p

My buddy took a picture of mountains in Iraq, and it had my helmet in it by accident. It turned out to be a really cool picture. I tried to duplicate it this go around in Afghanistan while sitting around bored waiting for word.

Hasn't stopped a deer yet, but it does speed goats quite nicely.

The bottom rifle is much better looking though, isn't it?

has a VTAC and sling adapter now but other than that it's unchanged. Played with a KAC M5 RAS but selling that now as I saw no point to it.

It's actually the same rifle - top and bottom.

The top is the "before" photo. The bottom photo is after I refinished it.

It was a Mossberg 800BSM in .243 Win. Not many of the "SM" were made, and this is the only one known to have been produced in .243 Win (the "B") in 1975 (total .243 production is unknown, but very low - the "-SM" model was primarily "ASM" for .308 Win). And it was a factory "parts gun" - assembled with a 1973 "deluxe" stock, pre-1968 grip cap, pre-1971 butt plate, a barrel from the post-1976 Mannlicher model, and it left the factory in 1975. It was a unique specimen. ...And I painted it pink and purple. ;)

It was refinished, so I could sell it.

The ridiculous paint job was a joke, but grew on me. I took the rifle on several antelope hunts, wearing the pink camo. (And had to wash some blood off, for that top photo.)
